That is actually a rare TBird. Ford had a option package back in 77 called the lipstick edition. Red on the outside and white leather with red accents on the inside. My dad bought one of these brand new back in the day. It was before I showed up but he told me all about it. Lol

@@mexicanspec I don't disagree with you brother. But he's restored enough of these cars to make it close to period correct. In fact, the Challenger he restored probably cost him 3-4 times what it would cost for a layman to restore the same vehicle. But since KZread, you and I fund him I think he could make it work. Just my opinion. I hope it goes well no matter what 😊😊🙏🙏

I love these Thunderbirds. They ride like driving on a cloud. Can never go wrong cruising the roads in a 1977-79 Thunderbird, Cougar, or LTD II.

My high school buddy in Alberta had one with a 351 and when he booted it you could barely see the horizon. Then he got one with the 460 and when he booted that all you could see was sky.

My dad had a bunch of these '77-'79 Ford Thunderbird's and I love these cars as well as the Cougar's and the LTD II variations!

“I remain impressed with the Motorcraft 2 bbl carburetors. How is it that they always run after all that time”. 2 reasons: simplicity and no ethanol back then!

@@josephbusby4625 Dirt accumulating in the fuel system from the fuel evaporating out as the car sits, corrosion, and trash getting pulled in from the tank when the car is revived. Ethanol is not the big demon people make it out to be; sure it can cause some issues with incompatible rubber parts but it's not going to kill your engine and there's no reason to go out of your way to avoid the stuff. And what damage it does cause takes a laughably long time to occur and occurs only in the rare case where imcompatible rubber parts are present in a vehicle seeing 15,000 miles a year type daily commute service. I run my '85 F150 and all of my small engines off regular 87 octane E-10 gasoline and I have zero carb issues in ANY of them. Ethanol doesn't kill carbs, especially not in the laughably low amounts that regular gasoline brings forth. Your biggest concern with old cars and new gas is not the ethanol, it's the lead. Or rather, the lack thereof. A lot of these older engines are designed around tetra-ethyl lead being in the fuel as it helps cool and lubricate the valvetrain as it passes through; without it you have valvetrain damage. Lead substitutes are not hard to come by, however. This point doesn't really apply to the Thunderbird in this video, as it was built after lead's phaseout and is likely compatible with unleaded fuel from the factory, but older stuff that predates the 1972 gas crunch will most likely want lead substitute in their fuel.

@@M.TTT. I've done that with my F150 a few times over the years and it didn't care. Soon as fresh fuel hit the float bowl it busted off like it'd been running the day prior. I'm not an EPA agent. I'm just speaking truth. Ethanol isn't what kills your carb.

I love how the flasher turned on after you shut the door hard, thats some ford engineering right there!

I had a 74 Ford LTD 4 door that had a small tap to the front. Same dayum shit but, eny door ya close causes the 4 ways to go off. So, when parking, had to pop the hood an disconnect the battery so it don't die because it had already once before. Otherwise it was a great car fer a dog leg gas guzzler V8 351 an a 4 speed that fer sum dayum reason had a granny low. She was free so caint complain much.

I remember when my dad bought 1977 Thunderbird like this one except his was Grey and had a half vinyl grey top with red pin stripes. I still remember what the pleather interior smelled like with the cold air conditioning running and Bob Seger playing Night Moves on the 8track stereo. It was pouring down rain at the ball field and my moms softball teams game has gotten rained out . I was about 3 yrs old . It’s crazy what I can remember. I would love to win this car in hopes of getting that memory of a 77 thunderbird back so I can get that 8track working and play some Bob seger on . I’d probably go back to Tennessee to that ball park in Knoxville Tn and wait for it to rain . My mom has been gone since 2013. That would be some great nostalgia

This was a great watch! Always happy to see someone saving the classics. My Dad had a burnt orange '79 when I was a kid. The back seat felt like my own personal living room.

Given your young age and not living through the malaise era of cars as I have, I profoundly respect you Dylan for your willingness to even look at these cars, let alone fix one up! I had a few models of 70's and 80's era cars myself. A '73 Ford Gran Torino wagon w/ a 302 ci, a '75 351w Granada Ghia sedan, a 225 slant six '79 Volare sedan, a retired state patrol Chrysler Newport w/ the E58 360, and an '82 Cordoba 318 which I swapped the then rusted out '79 Newport's 360/727 powertrain into. Growing up during that time period I had a lot of good times and fond memories of those era of cars.

Never sell those 335 Series Ford engines short, they are very good engines. And the Motorcraft 2 bbl is one of the simplest carbs ever made which makes them very durable

Still keeping my 2005 Lincoln Town car going and in great running condition. Gotta love these old land yachts and keep them going. Love the video and getting that T-bird going again. What a great project car.

When he first got it to start, I was watching his tools vibrating closer and closer to the edge.

You're a good man Dylan:) Also I have to say that this is one of the best cars you've ever pulled out of the trees. It actually has some paint left on it & it's not a total rust bucket...wow I'm impressed how easy it started and ran too!

Dylan Great video - thank you! BTW although that 77 TBird is a classic 'land yacht' is was actually 'downsided' a bit from the 72-76 models. The TBird was then _significantly_ downsized to the Fox platform for 80-82. Paul (in MA)

This brings back memories. My mom had an emerald green 78 T-Bird, from 78-84. That car was HUGE. She absolutely loved that car.

Fixing and watching people fix old cars really helps my ptsd out a ton! I feel like the cars are getting a new life like I’m helping them out, but really there helping my mind set!

Another reason I enjoy your videos Dylan. Humble, down to earth presenter with a wealth of knowledge. I won't be entering as quite simply, I'm in the UK and it would be asking far too much but we're I to have a project like that, I'd use it to instill a love of cars in my two boys by having them help me. I remember that year Thunderbird. True cruising land yacht..Grew up around Fords. My dad had a 61 Merc Monterey 2 door sedan black (390), 63 Merc (390) white with the breezeway window 4 door, 67 Fairlane 500 Wagon white (289), 71 Ford Torino Wagon (302) green, 1977 LTD Country Squire Wagon green (460). I had 85 Bronco II 2.9L V6 blue, 2000 Excursion (6.8L V10) green, 2005 Expedition 5.4L brown, 2011 Expedition 5.4L white limited, 2017 Expedition 3.5L Ecoboost black limited and now a 2018 F150 Lariat green 3.5L Ecoboost. Been a good run.. Thanks for sharing!

Those were actually downsized 'birds from the 74-76 yachts that preceeded. 77-79 birds really sold well during the second fuel crisis era of late 70's.

Thats is the same kind of car my late uncle would take me out to the back roads and teach me to drive. Awesome video.

As a little kid. We walked a mile and a half to school. That's the car, a friends mom gave me a ride in to school/home in. Cold A/C, Super smooth ride! Brings back memories. Shout-out to Ole J!

I had a 78 T-bird in high school. Drove good, rode good, stood up to wrecks really well. Had the same hubcaps!

We had a 1977 T-Bird at the salvage yard where I worked in Madison, Tn. a few years back. It was clean except for being hit hard in the right door. It was the only one of that body style that I have ever seen that had t-tops.

My 1st car was a 79 with the single backup light in the middle of the break lights. Grey with a dark blue vinyl. Got it as a graduation "gift". Gave my dad a hug then he said "Now go get a job and pay for it." Thanks and God Bless you for doing a Mc Cool thing for another.

“Messing with old junk Fords”?? What makes them “junk”? It’s all about your preference. I was raised a Ford guy and love seeing someone bring one of these old cars back to life. No matter if it’s an old Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet it’s great to see people get them going. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Absolutely. I desperately tried to restore a '79 Volare, but was forced to give up due to the fact that there were no new parts available, and there were not enough of them left to find used parts to put on it. Some of these forgotten and unloved cars are going to be lost to history simply because no one cares. There are enough muscle cars in the world. I have more respect for someone who takes on a real challenge, and resurrects a forgotten car.

I was 5 years sitting in east Germany loving those endless swinging cars ever since. Came to US of A in 2018... no more! NO MORE!!! i was so dissapointed... i guess i moved way to late to Los Angeles. Just see dim sum cars everywhere... thats when i celebrate ppl like this guy here saving them even in a bad condition. So for real, when I was growing up in Allentown, PA one of my best friend's parents had one of these and I still remember riding in it (when it ran).

This one brought me soul back to the 80s. I had my first 78 in 86. Loved that boat. Went through so many miles it was a beast. Almost cried when I had to let it go.

Awesome it amazes me how fast and how little work you had to do to get her running. Looking forward to the next video.

I had a 77 Mercury version of this… the Cougar! What a boat! Bought it back in 85 for $50! Put in new module and fuel pump drove it for 2 years and sold it for $800! Only car I ever made money

This will make an awesome project for someone! These old tbirds are fantastic you can go so many different routes with modifying them. If I didn’t already have my Lemans I would totally enter. I hope someone creates good memories with this big girl. This is awesome Dylan, good job!

When you said "wow did you see that guys out ran!" The shear wonder in your eyes and facial expression. Dylan tinkering on old cars is a passion a love. You either have it or you don't.. For some folks it's a fad or hobby... But when you get bit by the bug out never leaves you. Dude every time I fire up an engine or fix something that wasn't working I feel the same way. I'm glad to see someone else gets as much joy out of it as I do. My grandfather was a mechanic and would tell me stories and teach me things.. I got bit by the bug at a very young age. Thanks for some great content

We used to have a ‘77 T-bird as a shop shuttle service car. The guys called it the Thunder-Chicken. It may not have been the fastest, but it was the most reliable vehicle in our stable of shop vehicles. Miss those days.

They were downsized a lot that year. But, at 17.5 feet long, it isn't a small car. Makes me chuckle that these were classified by the government as sports cars, lol

Worked on these cars for years in my repair shop. These were great cars good dependable transportation! Hope whoever wins it will enjoy it

My boy run one just like it in the demo derby a few years ago it didn't even have any dents in it. What a shame. Love to see these old cars come back to life. Good job!

Brings back memories....my Uncle Edward had a white&maroon '77 in the early 90's, that thing rode like a leather couch rolling on marshmallows....SMOOTH. Looks like this poor 'bird has seen a few bump&rub incidents over the years, but nothing that's too far gone to repair. Watching along yet again....

These were good to Ford. Sold like crazy, they also had very sound engineering. They were based on the 72-76 Torino frame and basically has the same engine options, except no 429. They were offered with a 302 or a 351m/400. Their is a by-pass valve under the hood on driver side fender apron. Twist the plastic collar and the headlight doors stay open. Handy when the weather freezes. I owned 2 of these, a 78 and a 79. The 79 had buckets and a console shift. They ride like your floating on air. However they do not corner like the Torino......

My grandfather had a red 68 fairlane. I drove it before he passed away. I wish that I knew more about cars and that my uncle kept it. Don’t let opportunities pass by. I’m glad that you are saving these things and showing people how to do it. I would put a fresh interior in there and definitely would keep driving it.

Old Thunderchicken! My grandparents had a '79 copper with tan interior that they bought brand new. I still remember the day they brought it home. I was 6 years old at the time. It had a 302 engine. That thing sure did ooze down the road. I thought those hidden headlights were really cool back then.

That's the second Ford you've been surprised by. Be careful Dylan, we might turn you into a Ford guy yet! Those old Fords really did just run and run. Don't ever remember hearing anything bad about the 2 barrel carbs, it was the 4 barrel that gave the most problems. Great content and amazing of you to be doing this give away!

Man I wish I could have that car! That's one of my favorite eras of t birds, and cars in general. I've got my own land yacht that needs my love though, a '76 Mercury Marquis. I rescued that beast from a junk yard with no drive line in it, but the body is almost perfect.

These 77 thru 79 TBirds are simple to work on, and very reliable as 70's cars go. You couldn't pick a better car to try to work with for a winner that's a beginner! I really enjoy the channel!

Yep I owned a 1977 LTD 400 engine got over 20 mpg highway. Made many a trip to Michigan from South Carolina. Kids had plenty of room.

That is what's known as a Lipstick 💄Package Thunderbird, premium content BITD. Somebody's gonna get lucky. And that's a 351/400M. No moonroof, no optional gauges, beyond that, she's a winner. And, yes, the headlamps are vacuum operated.

Great cars, had a 1979 over here in England. It broke down alot and I remember pushing it down a busy road with my mum steering and a bus full of people behind me! It was Green over gold with Green leather. Loved this video!
