A year later... followup on the Pegasus Astro gear!

It's been over a year that I've been using the Pegasus Astro Focus Cube and Pocket Powerbox Advance. In this video I followup on my original reviews and let you know how these two astro hardware units are holding up.

    You should do a separate video on how you are maintaining your gear outside year around and all worries that come along with it and possible solutions etc.

    I have the PPB, UPBv2, and the FC2. The best way to describe Pegasus products is they just work - every time. I started out with the PPB and FC2, but found I needed an additional dew heater output and did not want to install a stand alone dew heater control unit. I decided the UPBv2 would fill that need while also reducing my component count by eliminating the separate USB hub I was using. It has never looked back. The FC2 w/universal bracket fir right up to my Esprit 100 and became “invisible” after the initial configurations was completed. That is my expectation for all my astrophotography equipment - that it becomes invisible in the process of astro imaging. The Pegasus equipment have done that.

    Great video Shawn. I bought the powerbox and the focuser after you reviewed them both. I also have the Esprit 100 and following how you fitted them was really helpful. Clear skies my friend and keep up the great work.

    G’day Shawn Great to see you out & about I purchased both of those pieces of equipment after your review last year. Goes to show that if your equipment can cope with the extremes in weather that Canada can throw at your rig, they are worth every cent Always great to get a notification you have uploaded Cheers mate 👍

    Drink every time Shawn says "Power pocketbox" 😜I've got the PPBA and the FocusCube v2. Absolutely love them and wonder how I was able to do any astrophotography without them.

    @@VisibledarkAstro I laughed about it because a few times when you said it, you paused and got this look like, "I know something isn't right here, but I can't really figure out what, so I'll just keep going." Regarding the PPBA, my only complaint is that the 4 12v outs aren't switched individually. That's a truly minor gripe because the only reason I want it is so I can keep my mini PC powered while keeping the camera, filter wheel and mount unpowered. I'm not using the adjustable output, so I suppose I could run the mini PC from the adjustable output set to 12V... then I could turn off the other 4. But still, I'd love to have individual control over those outputs.

    Cant agree more. The powerbox advanced runs my whole rig. I love having 1 cable going to the powerbox and 1 cable to the PC, all other cables are on the box and scope!

    Excellent video and very informative as always. I don't have a focus cube but I do use a UPBv2 and it's a flawless little piece of electronics. I do live in Canada (Montreal) and have a similar setup. But I normally move my scope indoors once the imaging session is finished only the mount and pier stay outside under a Telegizmo 360 cover. I do want to leave everything outside ready for imaging, but I'm scared of letting my scope and all its electronics (mi pc) under the weather conditions. It could be nice if you do a video explaining your pros and cons, like premature usage of the gear and so on. Thank you very much.

    I'm wanting to get one of these as a single source of power for my HEQ5 Pro mount, ASI294 cooled camera, 2 dew heaters, ASIAR Pro, ASI120 mini guide camera (powered via 5v usb from the AAP), and ZWO EAF (also powered via 5v usb from the AAP). I have a Celestron Power Tank Lithium Pro that has a 12V output supplying 10 amps and rated at 158 watt hours, Does this configuration sound like something that will work? Thanks!!!

    Pegasus do not supply power leads with the box anymore so you will either have to make your own or pay £20 -£60 for one of their recommended.

    Can you tell me what the focuscube does that you can't do manually? I have one anxiety I haven't found any advantage over manually focusing.

  • @VisibledarkAstro

    @VisibledarkAstro

    Жыл бұрын

    The focus cube will help automate your focusing so you don't have to do it manually. Programs like NINA can do the autofocus for you. This is very helpful for mono imaging where multiple filters are used and focus may need to be adjusted switching between them. The focus cube by automating focus can also in conjunction with NINA or SGP, adjust your focus as temperature changes. So there are a lot of advantages to using the focus cube or another motorized focus unit.

    Disappointing lack of useful info other than, apparently, they haven't fallen apart or caught on fire after leaving them [covered] outside for ~1yr. It would be helpful to know, for instance, how much power you're drawing compared to it's stated output, how much USB2 or 3 data you're passing through on average, specifics about the lifting power, step size, and backlash of the focus cube... I like cereal a lot and eating cereal has worked well for me - disappointed because you usually provide more than subjective pathos. I did not give the thumbs down.
