Welcome to my astro channel! I'm Shawn Nielsen of VisibleDark.ca and I'm an astrophotographer and Astronomy enthusiast. Here I'll discuss Pixinsight image processing and offer tutorials and tips. I'll talk about the astronomy hobby and night sky events. And I also do some astro product reviews from time to time. I've been imaging the night sky for the past 14 years and active in the astronomy hobby since childhood. I do the majority of my deep sky imaging from my backyard in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Ok, so i just did my first big mono narrowband project. I thought id get two decent nights but ended up with SEVEN. So each night i shot one or maybe two filters. I did an autofocus every hour. So multiple filters had multiple focus settings. I have a Moonlite focuser with no backlash so i was able to take a set of flats for each set of lights with different focus settings.... I assume i can use my dark and bias frames with everything because i have a ZWO ASI1600mm Pro cooled camera. So do i just make each filter with its own focus setting specific flats as a different "night"? I ended up with well over 30 hours worth of total exposure. The target is NGC6960 veil nebula. I shot Ha, Oiii and Sii. I also shot Luminance for 2 hours with an hour each of red, green and blue to be used for stars. My narrowband subs are all 5 minites each. Luminance is 2 minutes and RGB are 1 minute each. Any thoughts are appreciated. Can make all the data available if you want to make a video out of it that i can follow along with ....

    Pretty good - Thank You Question- i know have 3 rigs (different ZWO cameras). If they all shoot the same target, can i combine like this in WBPP? And, what i used filters on 2 rigs and not on 3rd rig, can i stack in WBPP? Thank You

    Hi ... I have an older version of GraXpert on my Win10 computer .... and I want to update to the latest AI version. I have seen that most people say that I need to delete the older version first .... but how??? I can't find any guidance on the GraXpert web site ... or anywhere else for that matter :-( GraXpert does not show up in the Control Panel/Programs list .... but I have found all sorts of files obviously linked to GraXpert on my C Drive ..... but I don't know if I should just delete all of these one by one .... or if there is a much better way of removing GraXpert before installing the latest version. Is anybody able to give me some advice about this? Mike

    I think KZread shorts have an issue: they don't seem to be publicly dated and it's difficult to tell when a video is from. Some are a bit outdated giving future dates but for a previous year.

    Hi Shawn. I'm just playing around with "HaRGB_Combine" with my Lagoon Neb data (2hr40min of RB & 1hr2min of Ha) and was wondering ...... if I had some extra Oiii or even Sii data would I be able to individually add them using the "HaRGB_Combine" by merely changing the "Ha" in the equations to "Oiii" or "Sii"? I'm going to try it anyway and hopefully I'll be able to grab some Oiii and Sii data soon but the Sydney weather here (Campbelltown actually...) is rather unpredictable at the moment. I'm just getting back into the Astrophotography after a break and frankly if it wasn't for your tutorials I'd be going a lot more insane than people think I am..... Thank you very much. Dave

    We’re up to version 3.1 now. The binning is hidden in the filter settings. Make sure to open each filter’s settings to make sure the binning matches your images.

    This was helpful. I tried both of these things without success, but I realized from watching the video that the problem is probably with my star atlas. This technique works at home in my office testing, but not in the field, where the star atlas finds nothing.

    Hey Shawn - I know it's a old(er) post from you, but I have a question about automating the Sky Flats within the sequence in NINA - I used Voyager in the past and we could add a skyflat routine as part of the script for the evening/morning. The script would calculate the time to start the dawn sky flats and then proceed. Does NINA have something similar where I can add a "wait" to a NINA sequence that will wait for the appropriate time to start the flats and then proceed? Or must I manually try and figure out the time relative to morning twilight to start it manually?

    Please don't use misleading profile photos on your video indicating that graxpert denoise literally doesn't work. It's literally an indirect ad to use noisexterminator instead.

  • @davenewbury198
    @davenewbury1982 ай бұрын

    Thanks Shawn. Not sure about others experience but it seems you have to run the Graxpert local install and use the 2.0.0 denoise at least once (to force it to download the ai model) before the 2.0.0 model would show up in PixInsight.

    Hi Shawn, I assume that your Ha data were obtained as a mono image? If Ha data are collected with an OSC narrow band filter, would the R channel from an RGB channel extraction work as a satisfactory Ha source for your process? Many thanks for the very clear presentation. Hank

  • @VisibledarkAstro
    @VisibledarkAstro2 ай бұрын

    Yes it would! The red channel becomes the Ha channel. Process it and add it using the same method.

    Hi Shawn, I noticed you applied 0.10 sharpening in the NoiseXterminator process (as you had done in the previous video}. I do all my sharpening outside of denoising. It would be interesting to compare both denoising methods without the sharpening applied. I realize 10% sharpening isn't much, but its more than 0%. Thanks for your videos!

    Good to see Graxpert coming along with noise reduction, however it is so slow compared to NoiseX and NoiseX still is a better product in most circumstances.

    How do the details in the galaxy compare between the two (before/after denoise)? Sometimes the denoise process can have an affect on details in the galaxy as well.
