    If you don't want to boil your miso, here's what you can do: cook the soup normally with all the ingredients except the miso. When the soup is done, take the pot off the heat. Put miso in a bowl and add a ladleful of soup broth. Mix the miso with the warm broth until it dissolves. Add the miso-broth-mixture back to the pot. Ta-da! Doing this should better preserve some of the probiotics in the miso, instead of boiling them all to death. ☺️ It's entirely optional, though! Boiling doesn't change the taste.

    The main concern with heating up miso is that you're degrading some of the probiotic benefits in it, since it's a fermented food. I've seen a lot of chefs use miso in high heat applications so I doubt it really affects the flavour!

    In Portugal we eat lupini beans in brine as a free bar snack (like peanuts in other countries i think). But you are supposed to remove the skin by biting the bean and then ushing the bean out of it's skin into your mouth (it's hard to explain😅). The texture is smoother without the skin.

    ok for the wall!!!!!! the blue kitchen tiles are so cute, so try find things that accentuate that: small prints, mini tapestries, a framed mirror etc. you could also get a hanging plant or maybe macrame fruit/veggie hanger for the corner closest to the cupboard ! xx

    Ghee is the fat of choice in virtually all indian cooking, but it's also a finishing fat, so if you make dal/lentils, topping it off with ghee is a traditional practice, but it doesn't always fly at home because the diet is historically meant for day laborers who eat lots of carbs and fat that gets burned off throughout the day. It's great with desserts as a butter alternative. Traditional ghee is actually non-dairy because the milk solids are separated from the finished product. Not vegan, just non-dairy. Yeah. Pie crusts, whathaveyou... if you want to fry anything like onions or vegan omelettes, ghee is fun.

  • @SaipriyaNagarajanSN

    Love ghee, but it's certainly not the fat of choice in "all" Indian cooking, especially south indian🙃also bengali, i guess? We prefer oils

  • @maiabhakta

    @maiabhakta

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@SaipriyaNagarajanSN coconut oil is pretty ubiquitous at this point so I don't see why you have to fight for it, esp. when most indian desserts use ghee. I also said "virtually" which is the qualifying term in the statement, but I am not surprised at all because you are South Indian and you really like forcing your way into the conversation, like it's territory.

    If you liked the black sesame drink, look out for black sesame soy milk next time you visit an asian(or better yet, specifically Chinese) grocery store!! They usually have it refrigerated beside the regular soy milk, and i think you'll enjoy it cuz it'll probably be richer and have a stronger sesame flavour

    Emily! My favourite salad ever uses beets and it’s: arugula, beets, cucumber, sunflower seeds, vegan feta (the salty works really well - I used to eat with goat cheese but this works great too) + dressing of soy sauce, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. If you have dark rye bread with it, that’s another level as well!

    It's not that you can't boil miso, it's just that if it's not ultraprocessed/shelf stable miso that didn't come out of the refrigerated section, then when you heat it over 60C-ish, you kill the probiotics and are only getting the flavouring instead of the full benefits of miso. Shelf stable miso has already been heated during the process and isn't probiotic anymore
