A Review of X6: Quagmire! A BECMI Dungeons and Dragons module Review #01

As I was wandering the internet, I found a Module called Quagmire that was pretty inexpensive on the DMsguild. I searched for reviews, but couldnt find a single Review on youtube for it, so here one is.
Now this is my first review, and there are some editing mistakes, I may make more reviews in the future.
Heres a link to the module on DMsguild: www.dmsguild.com/product/1710...
Addendum 09AUG2022: Even though I am slightly embarrassed at the quality, I'm leaving this video up just so I can see from where I began, and my mission is still to cover modules and adventures that are rarely, if ever, covered.

    Rating- Adventure: 2 torches... Value: 5 torches... Deadliness: 3 torches.. Overall: I give it 2 torches. Theres some issues with this one, the storyline is poor. Even though the PDF nad print on demand is $5 it really doesn't make up for the lack of... pretty much everything in this adventure. I've found Dungeoun magazine adventures that have a better overall storyline. And alot of the interior module work seems half thought out or rushed. I'd still suggest buying it however. The price is amazine... but the price itself can't cover up the issues within it. I apologize for forgetting to put the actual rating in the review itself, this was my first videos with poor equipment. And apparently I forgot I need to actual rate things for something I'd call a review :) live and learn

    Thanks for adding this, I just recently got my reprint copy of this. I know you say it doesn't have a story but honestly my players are more shall we say sandbox exploration/hack and slash so I think it will worl well, plus I can always modify as needed.

    What you said in this video inspired me to buy the PDF and Print On Demand versions of this module from Drive Thru RPG (DMs’ Guild). I love wilderness exploration modules, especially in areas with swamps, coastal areas and islands. I also enjoy adventures with lost civilisations, exotic civilisations, trade and leadership opportunities in games (e.g. leading the Quagmire citizens to safety). Overall, I’d rate this module 3/5, i.e. 60/100. I much prefer this style of adventure (sandbox adventures), and the story in this module is good enough for me. (And remember, whether a story is “good” or “bad” is subjective.) The main change I might make when I DM this module is to increase the number of citizens of Quagmire, e.g. multiplying their population by 10. I’ll also be sure to somehow communicate to the adventurers that the city used to have many more citizens, but many have died due to the siege. I suspect the sea shell city wouldn’t be able to house them all, so I’ll create some ruined areas outside the sea shell city, where people lived before the siege.

    Thanks Man! That helps out a whole lot. For this month it's not going to be much TSR stuff. But after that, we will be returning back to mostly TSR/WOTC modules.

    The sound is a bit wonky. Fading in and out, slightly. I personally felt the module was like Isle of Dread's poor relative. It's extremely bare-bones and for an inexperienced DM it's definitely not worth the price. It may be worth the effort of expanding/detailing if the campaign and players enjoys swamps, however.

    This DND, it’d probably be a scroll of entrapment or something. Though I vaguely remember some sort of bag in 5e that you can summon random animals out of Edit: I found it, the “Bag of tricks” www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/4582-bag-of-tricks

    Cool review but you made a mistake, well you didnt, they did, in the placement of Thanopolis. on they map they put the 'O' where you show it near Mule but it is to the south. The four spiral shell cities (The fourth being the uncompleted one at H) form a diamond on a map. I am thinking of running this one next on my ongoing mystara campaign but I am planning on making major changes and having it as more of a sidetrek to get my party to Slagovich for some savage coast action.

    I think your graphic here is wrong. At 9:50 your line ends at Slagovitch. Thenopolis is to the south of Quagmire, on the far side of Thanegia Island.

  • @toddevangelista
    @toddevangelistaАй бұрын

    There are 4 cities: Quagmire, Thanopolis, Sunken and Unfinished. These make a diamond. You have Thanopolis in the wrong place. It is the southernmost city. Also, the ancient race who built the cities is Moldvay backwards.
