It is my intention to mainly focus on BECMI era products and on other DnD modules from that Era that are lacking attention from others.
It is my hope that these videos will help others in the future and that more interest will be garnered onto the Mentzer era Dungeons and dragons game. You can still buy the Rules Cyclopedia which covers all the rules for character creations, levels, monsters, dominions and everything else for less then $30 on DMsguild. Go out and buy it. Seriously, its mostly compatible with any adventure from 1st AD&D and 2nd editions. (I really should do a video on the Rules Cyclopedia one day)

I got Dungeon of Dread through our school reading program called RIF. Reading Is Fundamental. It was very early. Probably first edition. When I saw this module, I had to download it. Nostalgia.
Thus adventure sucks. Surely bottom 5 of TSR. Every room you just walk in and get attacked right away, with no interesting tricks or gimmicks. Review already mentioned the nonsensical plot and lack of explanaton for anything. Trivial with 2 clerics since its mostly undead and low HD stuff. Only good thing is the pretty map of the manor.
Where did you get that map of Luln?
Welcome back! Damn...this adventure seems like a crazy Doctor Who episode 😮
Damn...Kurishan is kinda like Stephen King in the 82 movie "Creepshow". 😂 Any idea where these pamphlet adventures were sold? I never heard of them...
It has its own little horror theme to it! I didn't even know about it until one of the channel members asked me to take a look at them, so your guess is as good as mine
Thanks for the great video! Do you have videos on the other Thunder Rift BECMI box sets?
Thanks, I have plans on doing goblins lair and dragons den in the future!
There's really no other mapmaker from that era like Graeme Morris. Did it all, strategic, tactical, dungeon maps with such style.
I didn’t realize he was the map maker, but it makes sense now that all his adventures have an excellent map overview. Thanks for the information!
Yaaaayyy, genocide!
Nice review. Sounds like a fun adventure.
Great to see you again Adventurer :) I was afraid that this time you got lost for good.
Sometimes it just takes a while for me to find my way back!
I bought this one when it first came out due to the parallel world concept. That seems to be its weakest component, though. The adventure is all over the place, but it could work in the recent Planegea setting or perhaps be part of (Mystaran) Blackmoor's history. The Oard would be servants of the E.G.G. of Coot.
I looked up Aelos, and there’s a theory that Aelos is the known world, but upside down
@@TheLostAdventurer I must admit that is a new one to me.
6 Gary's on small Rocs. DAMN YOU, GARY!!
lol, looks like I missed one of the Auto corrects 😅, I award you 5 internet points
The Gary Menace!
@@stephenclements6158 damn Gary’s, ruining everything
Ha ha ha ha gaaaary
Wooooo he's back!
great video! welcome back
Thanks man!
Sadly there was a lot of great creatures in this one that never got used again
The Oard were just one of them. I was a big fan of the Odic too, I just didn’t fit them into this review. I have no idea how you’re able to pull off making your videos more compact, even when I try it still ends up being near 20 minutes long
@@TheLostAdventurer I put myself on a hard page count. Also I edited a magazine for over a decade. Lot of experience cutting things down to size
I can’t pull it off 😅, my life experience is the opposite, they always wanted more details for everything that could, would, or did happen. I gotta throw your video up in the descriptor
Sounds like a fun little setup in which you can inject some horror.
Definitely, the whole plants controlling people, and just the creeping vines by themselves have potential
Yay more BECMI content.
I get back to it sometimes 😅, unfortunately most of my BECMI experience is up to expert, I’ve never made it to companion plus
@@TheLostAdventurer Yeah that's fair it's hard to get a group to play that long or get into a campaign to that degree.
Your choices of oddball/overlooked adventures, combined with your wry sense of humor, creates a neat niche. Keep the reviews going!!
Thanks, thats one of the main reasons I started this whole channel was to cover those oddball and overlooked adventures!
Welcome back!!! Miss ya buddy and great review. Glad things ended positive for you and looking forward to the next video! Thank you for all the hard work.
Thanks man!
Congratulations on being alive. 👍
Thanks man! Yeah, I’m still kicking!
Oh hell yeah !
Glad to have you back! This little adventure sounds kind of perfect for the campaign I have coming up starting next month. Thank you for sharing it
You can thank Matt nerdy for suggesting it. I never knew there were pamphlets for dnd
@@TheLostAdventurer I picked it up. $0.80 was just too good to pass up
Welcome back 😊.
Thank you! 😃
Thanks man!
Nice review. Good to see you back
Back to the grind. Now that I got the other stuff out of the way, I can focus on here a little more
Welcome back. I remember these pamphlet adventures, got all but one. Some were better than others but for that price, they were great!
I want to take a look at a few more of them eventually
Hey the Lost Adventurer, I knew it was about time for you to come back. Welcome back!! Thank you so much for doing my video request. I've always enjoyed Kurishan's Garden, it's the moral dilemma I enjoy the most as a DM. Great job on breaking the adventure down, very deep! I was curious what kind of score you would give it. I think you scored it perfectly, and it is deadly! The module has a nice way of suddenly switching gears. Thanks again and you have a wonderful day!
Thanks, and no problem, I had been wanting to get this one done for a while, I had never even heard of it until you mentioned, so it definitely piqued my interest!
@@TheLostAdventurer Thanks again I appreciate it. Loved the humor in the video.
Not all who wonder are lost
Hey your back! I hope all is well with you.
It's going 😅 finally got some free time to get some videos done!
@@TheLostAdventurer sweet well glad to see you back. This is an interesting adventure, I would probably look to convert it to BX but then again I have enough adventures to run anyway. I look forward to seeing your next videos hopefully more BECMI or BX content.
I really like your reviews but I have to say, you really made a mistake with this one. I love it. And the creatures are quite powerful. Wights and wraiths drain levels, vampires and spectres drain two levels a hit. These guys are super dangerous. The mummy can cripple an unprepared party, between the fear and the mummy rot, this is tough. I did play these with AD&D 2e rules however so the creatures may be weaker in BECMI. Anyway, later dude.
There are 4 cities: Quagmire, Thanopolis, Sunken and Unfinished. These make a diamond. You have Thanopolis in the wrong place. It is the southernmost city. Also, the ancient race who built the cities is Moldvay backwards.
Thanks, I'm really going have to redo this one eventually, all together it rather poorly done, I will use the excuse of this was my first video
Knowing how TSR was going at this time, I have to wonder whether various employees were forced to write adventures in order to splatter product onto shelves. People who never did so before. Just grab the janitor and tell him to write a D&D adventure after briefly explaining to him what that is. 😆
oh I know..... im working on Tale of the Comet and that one is a bit...... poorly put together
Thats a trash dungeon I would have given it a 1 . Traps are too lethal , Monsters are too many and too high level . Its called kill Bargle yet Bargle has a very good chance to escape . Whats your other players going to do while a player is separated and you need to DM him , alone in a quiet place ? Your 1st two encounters are ten kobolds and a carrion crawler Thats rubbish . Why is the castle in ruins ? Why are the monsters worshipping Bargle ?
Flying and screaming, that's my kind of holiday experience.
She-talk-uh
Great stuff, really like your reviews, keep it up!
Glad you like them!
Love these reviews….thanks for all your work…looking forward to the next one
Glad you like them!
Yo my man what happened where did you go?
I’m alive, just finishing up a personal child custody battle and a job transition one after the other
Hey man are you alright? Its been a while since there has been a new video and just wanted to see how you're doing.
hey man, yeah, im still kickin, just had a job change followed by a child custody battle, some changes on my side, but there will be videos in the next month or so
@@TheLostAdventurer Oh crazy! Okay man it's all good you take care of yourself, I'm not trying to pressure you I was just wondering what was going on. Glad to hear you are at least okay, I hope all goes well.
I LOVE this one. I've run it about as many times at haunted halls of evenstar.
Great review, Lost. Btw I made updated maps, VTT compatible for this and the other basic black box boxed adventures for sale on DTRPG (called Back to the Dungeon map packs). They come with 'bare bones' versions of the adventures too, so can be played straight from the supplied pdf for those that don't have the proper one or are missing bits from it (Goblin's Lair is terrible for this, missing an entire adventure). If you ever want copies for review or just to reference (eg. you're reviewing the other boxed sets), hit me up.
Kills me that you won’t call the shoe repair guy a “cobbler”. 😂
If there's a ever a cobbler in any of my future modules Ill have to continue to refer to them as "Shoe repar guy" or "Shhoe repair shop"
I dunno. Doesn’t sound so bad.
A great module and one I had a blast playing back when it came out!
Got it free on free rpg day
Mike Wheeler is actually a player. Will the Wise is Will Byers. He's the DM.
I think your graphic here is wrong. At 9:50 your line ends at Slagovitch. Thenopolis is to the south of Quagmire, on the far side of Thanegia Island.
I feel like you could combine this and B5: Horror on the Hill. So you run B5 first to level them up then when they're ready you send them down the river to this module.
This is precisely what I’m doing with my OSE crew. It took us 35 sessions to finish B5 and now we begin B10 next session!
@@AndyAction DUDE NICE! That sounds awesome I hope it goes well.
Its got solid bones. I used it for a PbP game but modified the crap out the background/encounters
Mate, come back and do some more BECMI reviews! Your style is like your sat across the table at the pub and we're having a pint. Love your stuff
I’m working on it 😅 actually half way through “serpents eye” not BECMI, but AD&D, just need to get into the groove again
@@TheLostAdventurer I've just started a small collection of the older stuff, nothing special just the PoD stuff from drive thru, but I'm loving the rules cyclopedia. If you fancy a look at some of the OSR stuff I focus on BFRPG over on my channel and would love to see if you have any advice for someone brand new to this youtube lark
@@TheBasicBrit1989 ill take a look at your channel, Ive had BFRPG since 3rd edition (I dont like the 4th edition cover, but the rules are still great)
This is one of those adventures that probably should not exist but it does and feels like it's grown a cult following from the bad rep it gets 😂
