A brief look at the REF3 Book of Lairs, which is full of 61 easy to add encounters for any campaign, especially map campaigns.
encounters for terrains such as mountains, forests, city's, aquatic, desert, this book has it all to add a little bit of variety to your game.
it may have been created for AD&D, but the concepts are still the same, so it's useful for every modern versions of TTRPGS.

Nice little gem and I love the cover art from Clyde Caldwell. It's great 80s fantasy pulp artwork. 😂 I think he did lots of TSR covers for Dragonlance and the Mystara Gazetteers.

Fantasy art now, isn't the same as fantasy art then. Which is too bad, I liked th fantasy art from then also.

I have used both Books of Lairs regularly over the years. Not all of the encounters are gold, exactly, but they are most certainly useful for quick, drop-in scenarios. I have the Book of Darkness as well, but haven't yet used any of the scenarios.

Hey Merlin, nice to see ya! The book of darkness? We've heard of the book of vile darkness, but not regular darkness, but we are intrigued!

@@TheLostAdventurer Sorry - not 'Book of Darkness' it's 'Lords of Darkness' which is the 3rd of the Book of Lairs line (REF5 is the code) focusing specifically on Undead.

Yup, DMs discretion, but it gives a suggested value for PCs who withdraw smartly. It's a small percentage of victory XP, but we always liked the idea.
