The biggest red flag for me is his inconsistencies with how he handles the situation, both by himself and with police. He calls the cops right off the rip with no issue - showing that he's willing to do so when feeling threatened - but then when hes out with friends and getting a bunch of alerts on his phone, he decides 'Hmm I'm gonna investigate myself', when a normal person would call the cops if it was legit. Not to mention he was allegedly so scared that he wouldn't stay there, why the sudden confidence to investigate? None of it adds up lol.

In my opinion, a well-crafted hoax is more entertaining than non-fiction. Cause this stuff doesn't exist in real life.

I'm an Electrical Engineer that has installed dozens of security systems & hundreds of sensors & cams. Although I've never installed Zmodos in particular, here's what I know: - There is no way in Hell for anyone to approach, unmount & move the cam around without getting caught by it. Not even a ghost, since the cam's motion itself would trigger an alarm. But! Like I said I don't know those cams, but if they don't send alarms upon video loss/disconnections, then I guess it's doable if they're switched off before someone enters their visual range. - There is no way he's picking up some neighbor's cam, as someone commented. Seeing neighbor's cam (which is connected to a different router) is as possible as it is to see a random cam from the other side of the planet: not possible at all. (Also, why would his neighbor have CCTV cams on his bed? 😛) So, what are the possibilities? - He's lying. - He's using Zmodo's cloud storage instead of a DVR, from which he received some old snapshots from, I don't know, when he was testing/setting the cam on his bed? Although it sounds weird & it's probably a rare glitch, something similar has happened to me personally (albeit only once). I was installing an IP/cloud cam & when I got it online, I received snapshots of a workbench, the factory & the guy that presumably was testing it. - The app itself &/or the previously stored snapshots are messed up & out of order (perhaps due to wrong timestamps or whatever), so he's seeing older snapshots as new. - The ghost of a hacker or a cat burglar (no pun intended) is haunting him. 😱 Although I'm a cynical, skeptical Engineer, I can't dismiss that last possibility. You see, my own cams have caught some weird crap over the years, at my in-the-middle-of-nowhere home. Who knows...

This justifies my paranoia and distrust of anything "stored on the cloud". Hell, all "cloud storage" even means is "our corporation will be able to access anything on your computer*" *short of any sort of extensive software design, I know there's plenty of people who will go the extra mile with shit like VPN's and similar things that encrypt the data better, but for the average person, all cloud storage means is "sign here and trust us to have access to all your data, and we pinky promise never to delete your data if it takes up too much space or becomes an inconvenience(and you can TOOOOOTALLY trust us, right? It's not like silicon Valley isn't constantly "leaking" or losing data to hackers and rival entities") Fuck cloud storage. If I get security cameras on my house the last thing I want is amy sort of internet connection running them together.

A neighbour hacked OP's security network to get revenge for him feeding their cats despite the fact that the vet said Mr Tibbles has to go on a diet.

That's close to my theory. Spoof the MAC of the camera and the image you send will look like it's coming from that cam. If you can get on their wifi, you can mess with their cameras.

I believe that there was more that happened, but I can’t remember the exact details, right now. But, yeah, low levels of CO can cause all sorts of psychological and physical effects!

they're wifi cameras... that shit can easily be faked through the use of a phone connecting to their wifi, then sending a signal to the camera system, and voila, magically the cameras are moving without actually moving.

Yeah, cause the picture of the bed supposedly coming from the “camera” seemed higher quality than the shit quality from outside, so the person must’ve connected to it, make the cameras believe that the phone camera is the real camera, turn on the flashlight in the dark, and make the picture black and white.

1. This is fake, I used to sell, install and maintain security cameras, including wireless Zmodo branded ones, you definetly have the option to disable motion detection and record continuously. With a 1TB hard disk, a 2MP camera (most commonly used) will record 4 months of continuous video at 1080p. An 8MP 4k security camera (extremely rare) will record for a month. In fact back in 2016 most wireless Zmodo cameras were 720p. 2. On top of that if the cameras were setup to only record on motion detection they would record a VIDEO! Not still photos. In fact they would record footage from 5 minutes before it detected any motion (the DVR records continuously even on Motion detection and deletes the videos after a certain period). 3. It doesnt matter what app you use to view the recording or watch the stream, you would never lose the videos if you changed apps, because the VIDEO IS STORED IN THE DVR!! The app only connects via p2p to stream the video from the dvr into your phone. The app does not store the video on your phone, unless you download a certain clip.

I can imagine this person isn't really all that tech-savvy, as they're talking about how the app 'changed' and they're only sharing stills, they don't seem like someone who knows that you should a.) change the default password for wifi cameras and b.) how to go through settings and set up a camera to record. My dad's had security cameras for our property for years, he stores a lot of construction equipment and they help monitor the comings and goings of the people he employs, works with, etc. I think OP didn't know how to set shit up properly and wasn't about to admit that he screwed up some setting(hell he could have even set up his own phone to take stills every time the phone failed to unlock). He never shows us a screenshot of the app--and the cameras are totally hackable if you've set up Password123 as the password then figured it's totes secure--like I bet you can even save stills from your phone to the app/device. Why not share video? Why not double check all their wifi and camera settings after the first instance of obviously-inserted photo? So I would say--Fake in that OP clearly isn't able to manage settings correctly, and is probably misinterpreting stuff as paranormal when really OP needs to brush up on their wifi security. It's like if I was one of those parents who kept the wifi password default on a camera or something and then when it was logged into by a random stranger I went "oh my god the camera's haunted!"

The scratching at the cats door is strange but their are starving people who will eat the carts food right of of the dish, I have seen it happen where a man I saw in Hollywod, CA. in the 1980's go behind a mans house who always left his dogs food dish out on his back porch next to the driveway. The unidentified man was seen digging his hands into the dish and eating the food that was left in the dish and...then...drinks the water from the other dish that was also left for the guys dog. I stopped and watched him do this because I saw the guy go behind this house and knew he didn't live there. I was on the way to the store so I though I would get him some real food along with my own and when I returned to the area he was still there but he seemed to scary to give food to so I kept walking not knowing if he was all together there you know. I stopped though to see if he would respond to me and as he looked at me I knew, well, not a good idea at this time. True story.

The motion cameras would have been going off the entire time they were moving about. Not just snapping a rando with exactly no context. Every time. And its clear he unplugged something so he could take angle shots of his room, he then chose the best one. But pointed out the discrepancies after he thought someone might notice.

I don’t think they thought they were about to die. Reddit is a great place to present and walk people through your issues. And you get encouraged to keep updating so it isn’t hard to find people who update like this. I do this a lot when I have some issue that I need a quick fix or some other opinions. Mines die past the first post because it gets resolved pretty quick, but if it doesn’t then it’s not hard to imagine me doing something like this.

@@blue---monday Mellyanda Ratu I think he might've wanted to make up a convincing story to post on r/letsnotmeet for Reddit karma because his older stories didn't gain a lot of karma. Stories like his are very common on subs like r/nosleep, but they're uncommon on r/letsnotmeet due to the fact that the stories there are usually real, and when they're made up they're usually not as extreme as FlexGunship's story, cause they're trying to be convincingly real. FlexGunship probably just wanted karma and attention, like most redditors do, but decided that making very realistic fake stories on subreddits for that kind of thing was not getting him enough karma, and that posting one of his very convincing fake stories to letsnotmeet would probably gain more traction and give him lots of attention and Reddit karma, which it did.

Smugumin the second camera I believe was just unplugged and in the house but that still means that he could’ve just plugged it into somewhere and taken the pictures (also the fact that this guy was behaving just like a character in a movie or something says a lot lmao)

I install cameras for people. I've built my own surveillance software before. I'm in school for networking. The first thing that comes to mind is that I want to know what standard the camera uses to encode the stream. I've seen plenty of cameras that use an unencrypted mjpeg stream to send what is essentially a series of still images back to where they are being processed. It wouldn't be difficult to inject frames into that stream, assuming you had access to that house's network and knew the address of the camera and where it was streaming to.

There is also the possibility that the camera was never moved at all. It's possible that someone was able to override the signal by using another camera. If the intent was to mess with this person, that would be far easier than all the nuanced installation and moving around of the original camera.

In the 90s my mom had cable tv, I can't remember what channel, but there was this channel that was a camera overlooking someone's driveway, never saw anyone or anything, just a corner of a house and a driveway. Day and night time would pass like normal. It was always on 24/7. Never figured why it was on cable.

The most plausible scenario is that someone probably was able to hack into their security cameras. The rest of the scenarios seem to be impossible

Yeah, other than being a hoax, the only other plausible explanation is someone, maybe a friend, somehow playing a prank on them. I’m not very tech-savvy or very aware of how security camera technology functions, but I suppose a friend could have taken a few pictures of their bedroom at some point and hacked into their camera app to prank them. It would be an incredibly messed up scenario, but there’s no way someone could have moved the actual cameras without setting off the motion sensor and disrupting the spider webs.

Maybe it might be hacked wifi cameras are very unsecured. But yea a hoax is the best option.

I know I’m a bit late, but working in network security, I can tell you that there are devices out there that will clone your WiFi enabled Camera. So this is entirely possible. A device clones the camera and temporarily disabled it and the new camera becomes the current feed. Then, upon disabling it, it goes back to the original one. It’s not that hard to do. Just a thought

Riis, read about MAC spoofing. Also, when you set up the cam, you probably only assign it a custom DHCP lease based on the MAC, not add it to a network whitelist, so if one would be to set a static IP on a device and disconnect the other one (either physically or by dropping it off the network with a ton of malfunctioned ARP packets (netcut-style)), it would be totally possible. I'm wondering how did they get cameras compatible with that system to work exactly like the other ones did. Probably a fake because of this.

This is absolutely horrifying. The worst thing that I can think of happening is someone messing with me and stalking me at my own house. It’s basically the one place where you can stay safe, besides like a fire department, hospital, police department, etc. That is a living nightmare.

If the cameras worked off of wifi, what if he was just receiving someone else’s footage? I mean, the bed pics were kind of blurry so it could have been another bed or fabric surface. What gave me that idea was when the camera was on the move, thought to be stolen by some kids, but then the cameras were right where he left them. Someone else may be setting up their camera

I knew it was horseshit as soon as they said the camera didn't record anything. You're going to buy a nannycam and NOT have it set up to record? Sure. Another Reddit roleplayer. Theres also the "uhh..", "hmm", "edittacular", all the ellipses. They didn't even try. Not to mention how they tried to explain away the sleepwalking thing with how difficult it would be, unplugging it, dismounting it, etc.. But someone else is doing that? Someone else is unplugging it, dismounting it, running an extension cord into his living room, triggered some motion senses, unplugged it, put away the extension cord, remounted it, and plugged it back in. Dude sealed his own fucking coffin with his own excuse. And then he just.. sells the cameras? All this shit is going down and theyre terrified, as it seems, so they just sell the cameras and forget about it..? Lmao, fuck this is rich.

I was watching this video a few hours ago. About 3 am. I walked into my kitchen and it was pitch black. I was grabbing some water my dishwasher kicks on and makes this really loud noise. I’ve never been scared of an appliance so much in my life until now

those consumer security cameras are notorious for having unsecured network connections - I think it might have even been you that made a video about those awful websites where people just tap into random private cameras around the world. It’s more than likely that the cameras just picked up a neighbor’s feed. Especially since that last bedroom shot had an arm in it while they were supposedly out of town. Still creepy but not impossible. That first time was certainly a real break-in attempt though. Probably some dumbass thinking he was so smart for trying to get in through the cat door.

Nah, I don’t think they were sleepwalking. I think someone was legitimately stalking them, but had hacked into/backdoored their camera feed and were recording from their own cell phone. It would explain how the person was never caught on by motion sensor messing with the cameras, and how they kept power and connection to a network when recording.

its not all of reddit lol but you're right. like there's subreddits (basically ''communities'' if you aren't familiar with how reddit works) for this types of storytelling. the people following along or contributing to theories all know its not real. their feedback essentially drives the storyline. but there's other kinds what are well planned out, far in advance to make it realistic. but then you have the small handful of stories that turn out being real. overall its not my cup of tea lol

One of the friends mentioned Wi-Fi connection, I'd say the next most plausible theory (aside from OP faking it) is that somebody has hacked the cameras and is sending false pings with pre-taken photos. I'm not sure how they'd have gotten the pics, but it makes more sense than dodging the motion trigger. Either that or maybe there's again some form of hacking going on with disabling the camera until they've dismounted it. Sleepwalk doesn't account for when the curtain/blinds were opened, and for when an incident happened despite OP not being home. IF this is real, then 100% there's a third party involved to some capacity. I'm saying there's no chance it's all OP sleepwalking.

You missed a possibility, the dude's account has been comprised, possibly through a leak of major company users, People will often use the same email and pasword for multiple services. Doors can be breached often times without much effort at all with simple tools, not even picking locks, slipping latches is really easy if the door isn't fit correctly. The intruder likely has access to the account and purchases an identical camera. This way, he could turn off the outside camera, walk right in through the improperly fitted door latch, do what ever the hell he wants, including unplugging something, plugging in the camera, then putting the plugs back how they were, or just using a power pack to power the camera. Mr. Guy doesn't know about the third camera because the intruder only joins it long enough to take the pictures, and when there is a manual picture taken and the patio camera is somewhere else, he has just disjointed patio camera and renamed the third camera to patio. I am not a hacker, but I could do what was done to this guy for 20 bucks for some credentials on the dark web, maybe 30 bucks for a camera, and 2 bucks for a bent piece of metal. Also the intruder knows when the guy is gone because he also has access to the app and the cameras can show when the guy leaves the house. This is why proper security is important.
