A battle of Japanese Les Paul Customs! ( Or is there room for both? )

Музыка

It's not ever often I have two of these in stock, so I decided it would be a good idea to document the two together and give my impressions on how the Orville by Gibson Les Paul Custom compares to the Edwards E-LP130CD! These are both outstanding guitars, but they are more different than you'd expect.

    Thank you for summing it up nicely! I really love Edwards, and it is the perfect guitar for me. Though I love single cut guitars, the route Gibson/epiphones and all others go is to make it as vintage as possible. Where as the Edwards goes a different, more modern route, which I really appreciate!

    I would select the Orville and try to throw a set of Tarbacks or a third-party wound to Tarback specs in it. 490R and 498T are great too, but I have those in a Les Paul Studio.

    I have an Orville K Series white LP Custom and an Edwards E-LP-113LTC. They're the two best guitars I own, absolutely love them both. Together they probably cost maybe half of what one Gibson LP Custom would be, and I couldn't be happier.

    i have the same edwards LPC. it's a little older and has the cream (aged, etc) binding. i swapped out the duncans for a couple way better pickups. I love the guitar. i don't even need a gibson lp anymore. I've had 'em. but this suits my needs perfectly. i've heard good things about the OBG models, but have never actually played one. i can only vouch for the edwards. i've also owned an edwards '56 gold top. that was very nice, too. i'd like to get one of the LP special models some day.

    idk if you're aware, but almost all the orville guitars are modeled after bookmark years and features. its really common to get baseball bat necks on a custom because they typically mimic the 50s...things kinda along that line. ive had a few orvilles and its been the same for all the different shapes and body styles. they're pretty cool for that

    Edwards do seem to be pretty consistently brighter than most Les Pauls from what I've heard in many samples. Possibly because of the mahogany they use that also makes them on average lighter than LPs from other makers. That's not a bad thing. A bright Les Paul is great. A light Les Paul is great. But the other makers - Tokai, Burny, Greco are more typically similar in tone to Gibsons and Orvilles. (though none of the Japanese made Les Pauls have the quality control issues that Gibsons have that I've personally seen on many of their products).

  • @AudiomoMusic

    @AudiomoMusic

    2 жыл бұрын

    A bright Les Paul can be a god send in a mix, it makes it much easier to fit in compared to a big beefy les paul that will conflict with the bass drum and bass guitar in some frequencies. It's why telecasters are the most commonly used guitars in the studio, they just cut right through. I enjoy a lot of those brands you mentioned and yes, even at 30+ years old for those brands in their hayday they are still better than a lot of the newer Gibsons in terms of quality even after all that time.

The 1982 Fender JV stratocaster is the best strat I've ever played, and i've played countless american fenders. One thing regarding the Les Paul style instruments from Japan that I notice over the Gibsons is the tuning stability.
