2014 Edwards LP-130CD, a ridiculously well made guitar that leaves little to be desired.

Музыка

Today we go over the newest guitar I purchased from Japan, this Edwards E-LP-130CD... really it was the highest end Les Paul custom they made in that year of 2014. There are few sounds more recognizable than a Les Paul with a JB/59 and this does not disappoint. We have more guitars coming in this week, stay tuned!

Edwards also makes a replica of the iconic John Sykes black L/P custom, with the chrome scratchplate , but it comes with higher output Duncan Distortion SH-6 humbuckers. These Edwards L/P replicas are great value for money, same with the Tokai Les Pauls.

I've played one of those JS, they are really cool guitars as well. ESP/Edwards in general really kill it with their JDM offerings, it's a shame we don't get them easily here in the USA, epiphones would never be purchased by anyone with a functioning brain imho. Greco, Burny, Tokais you have to a bit more careful with to make sure you know where it's made and the grade level, but the good ones of those are all fantastic.

The custom is also my favourite iteration of the Les Paul, think its the inlays on the headstock that really sell it to me! Since you asked about what we would like to see going forward and wouldn't mind your take on the interface that arrived during the live stream. I know its not the most exciting thing but my 2i2 is getting on and I was thinking of rack mounting my kemper with a new interface (thinking the focusrite rack mountable one) and am interested to hear about your setup etc. I haven't always managed to record the sound as I hear it from the kemper although OBS has really helped recording audio and video together. Didn't know OBS was a thing until I came here so thanks for that! Great stuff as always!

I remember looking at Edwards before they started popping up on people’s radar. I couldn’t find enough info to justify shipping one from Japan. It’s nice to now see so many reviews/demos as of lately, I might just take the plunge now.

I'd definitely recommend it, I can't stress how surprised I was given this is one of ESP's mid tier offerings. You certainly get more than your moneys worth.

@@AudiomoMusic Last year I found a good deal on Craigslist for a Maybach and dipped my toes into non-Gibson LPs for the first time. It’s the best “Les Paul” I’ve played in a long time. I’m sure an Edwards would be just as good if not better, from what I’ve heard.

Nice playing, refreshing to hear someone not just only playing high gain riffs demoing these. I've found a similar model from Edwards. What is the tuning stability like with these?

FWIW, Edwards guitars are more akin to something like the Fender Highway One series. The way they keep costs down is to do the bulk of the labor-intensive work in China (woodworking, sanding, etc.) where the final fit/finish/assembly is done in Japan. The whole "made in USA" vs "assembled in USA" argument. Edwards are still great guitars for the money, but that's why they're kind of a price midpoint between flagship ESPs and their Grassroots series. They don't have an "LTD" brand in Japan. I used to live in Tokyo for several years so I spent some time understanding the nuances of their lineup.

I do understand this, when I first started getting into these kinds of guitars I reached out to a lot of people IN Japan because the internet doesn't provide clear cut answers and if you do a search that becomes very, very obvious. Edwards themselves barely even explain the differentiating factors between their lower and higher costs instruments, and don't label the models in any way on them to have a concrete answer to someone who doesn't know what to look for. LTD's were never in Japan that's right, instead that's what we get here from korea and now from Indonesia. It seems indonesia is the place where a ton of these manufacturers are setting up shop for their "midrange" level guitars... Maybe the Korean labor prices started increasing more than they liked? Hard to know the details, but I find it all very interesting. Thanks for the comment Mark!

I had an Edwards 113 LTC ( lacquer) in the vintage white…little more yellow than I liked. Anyway, sold it. But, I’m probably gonna order another one shortly in the white. I’m in 🇨🇦 and this guitar will cost me about $1400 by time it’s shipped etc. I lost out on a Gibson this morning, used for 5 grand…so 1800 off retail. Damn. Yes, a Gibson custom in 🇨🇦 is $6800 before tax….just nuts. Navigator looks awesome and would cost me $5400 pre tax and is a beautiful off white colour. But,,,still expensive. So,,,looks like I’m getting another Edwards. You can’t beat the quality for the price( as you know and mentioned) and the new Epiphones are NOT as good as the Edwards in case anyone is curious.
