A 21st Century Resource War: Emira Woods on Racism, Extraction & Militarism Devastating Africa

President Biden has pledged $55 billion to Africa over the next three years, announced during a three-day summit in Washington with leaders from 49 African nations. The U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit was held as the United States is trying to counter the growing influence of China and Russia across the continent. President Biden also announced plans to visit sub-Saharan Africa next year for the first time as president, and expressed support for the African Union to join the G20 and for Africa to have permanent representation on the United Nations Security Council. We speak with Emira Woods, the executive director of the Green Leadership Trust and an ambassador for Africans Rising for Justice, Peace and Dignity. She says both Democratic and Republican administrations have seen Africa primarily as a place of geopolitical competition over resources. "What you see is that people on whose land those resources lie continue to be rendered invisible," Woods says.

55 billions dollars pledge by the US for a whole continent is laughable and shows how mean and lack of respect the US government have for Africans especially at a time when they are not doing this out of goodwill but as a way of competing with Russia and China that had benefited Africa in diverse ways by building bridges, roads stadiums, hospitals and factories etc which amounts to hundreds of billions dollars and not pledges

Dear Africans, Please take time and pain to read the following contributions carefully and after that allocate some time to pond over the assertions. We in Africa, currently find ourselves on crossroads and the last false decision we must not make is to allow any other Nation or Race on this Planet to come and colonize us again in any form. Our Leaders must be eloquent enough not to push us into slavery, colonialism or perpetual dependency and weakness. Those who left the Continent did not do so knowingly or unknowingly and are not feeling comfortable outside, while those living on the continent are neither feeling comfortable at all. We must learn to stand on our own feet in the first place. Africa doesn’t need any WAR on the continent from OUTSIDERS! We do not want to be used as pawns. We must be none aligned. Africa needs to unite now irrespective of which cultural, and hence political philosophy the independent Nations within the Union holds.

Rhetoric and photo ops and that 50 billion are too little too late. And no, it won't make much of a difference. Africa needs 150 billion annually to bridge the infrastructure gap.. 50 billion over 3 years is a drop in the ocean, the USA has spent much more than that in the Ukraine war.. Africa needs trade and not handouts.. and if the US is serious about trade and investment in Africa it would not have insulted African leaders by suggesting 50 billion over 3 years is anything significant. Each year the African diaspora remits over 90 billion and China is hitting over 100 billion annually in investments in Africa.

@@Dan_Gleebalz Logan's Run? Have no idea what you're talking about. "Who's going to take care of the aged"? Is your point that you need 6 kids/woman (about the average African birth rate) to take care of 2 parents? Your arguments are ridiculous. But if you do have such an unsustainable population of 6 kids/mother, then there will be increased competition for resources, higher likelihood of disease outbreaks which will most threaten the aged, worsened climate crisis that will endanger the aged and everyone, etc. And that will make it even harder "to care for the aged." Just start thinking logically, would you?

@@cev12 duh. First, Logan's Run is a movie. The focal plot point is anyone over a certain age is systematically put to death. Second, my argument is cogent and well founded. Your argument is ridiculous. In fact, that your can't seem to grasp the simplicity of my argument makes you yourself ridiculous. I'm not talking about caretaker children, stupid. I'm taking about taxpayers necessary to offset the financial burden caused by a social safety net geared primarily to care for the elderly. Oh, that's right. First, the rich already pay the bulk of the taxes. Second, even if your confiscatory plan were to ever come to fruition and you took all the wealth from every rich person on the planet, you'd find most of their wealth is not liquid. You'd also find that when you punish those that would otherwise innovate and employ, they will no longer innovate or employ. Finally, while practicing your zero population scheme you'll find out you'll soon run outt of rich people to tax. Then what? Never mind. HUD puts out a yearly report on the state of homeless in the Country. California has one of the largest concentration of homeless people almost 200K for one state!!! Do your own research don't just believe what a stranger says on social media. You can start with HUD I listed one source, but there are others. Africa was destroyed by design during the Berlin Conference when they calved up Africa. 55 African leaders to meet ONE United States president. Imagine the competitive self interests of those leaders. Now imagine the power of One US leader meeting the leader of ONE leader of the United Kingdoms of Africa. We know that the power dynamics would have shifted considerably.

Speaking as an African I disagree with most of the assertions made passionately by Lady Amira. It takes a strong military to stabilize most of these war-torn battle and conflict-riddled nations of Africa. Nigeria & Ghana spent significant resources (OIL MONEY) and manpower to stabilize Liberia and Sierra Leone. Resources that could have gone into solving the problems of Nigeria and Ghana. Africa needs military aid in the form of material, not men, for well-governed nations to like Rwanda, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Kenya, and Uganda to help out troubled nations. The ais can come from whoever, we don't care, so long as it s materials to the very stable nations who will do the job. Currently, SADC and Rwanda are in Mozambique, Kenya, Uganda, and Burundi are in the DRC, and Somalia helping to bring stability. This is what Africa needs and OIL & GAS will pay for that.

American government has been causing the wars in east Africa the last two decades. They been shielding corrupted ex government diplomat's sturing up tribal wars and supplying arms to them making mass murders in Ethiopia and Somalia. Then America accuse the government there for using force to restore order. I'm white Australian and I lived in Eithiopia for 5 years with my Ethiopian wife from 2009 to 2014 I seen the bullshit lies the US mainstream media and government puts out there. And what they was really doing. While China was helping them fix roads and other infrastructure and having peaceful trade. Everything this woman was saying is 100% correct. What America is doing in East Africa is exactly the same they tried to do to south America back in the 80s. They are trying to establish a corrupt puppet government that will bowl to Washington orders. Why you think they killed Gaddafi? Becuse he tried to establish a united Africa and dump USA. Africa has plenty of resources and China is in a high demand to buy it. It will be worth trillions of dollars to Africa economy. And that's something Washington don't want. They don't want a wealthy Africa. They don't want China to have more resources as its destroying the US to maintain itself to be a superpower. And continue to push other countries around. Education and wealth makes countries stable. Not military. Money and education is power. With that you can afford a very large military if needs be What scares Washington is that someday they going to have to obey someone else orders or they will get bombed. That's why you should never do to others what you don't want done to you. America invaded many countries. One day it will come to them.

95 % of African problems are self inflicted. Foreign Companies need to be managed by the host country. This is very difficult for most African governments who cant even manage their countries basic services. Corruption is the biggest problem but there are other cultural issues also. I lived and worked in East Africa for 6 years and learned more about East Africa than they learned from me. It is not a hopeless situation but it is a HUGE challenge. I don't think it is fair and correct to grouped China, Russia, US and other western "colonizers" as the same. China and Russia's presence are precedence of nondevelopment of Africa since the time of US and allies arrival... There should be mention on what's the differences of partnership and impact og these countries in Africa. What gains do Africa get from each of these countries. For the past 10 years, what development did the US and allied countries made to Africa vs the arrival and partnership to China and to Russia.

African nation need to process their growing resource importance and have them command the value instead of the western nations and China. They’ve exploited these nations for centuries and now recognize that they need to be treated as an equal; partner or not. Increase their own manufacturing within their local communities and uplift the quality of life for their peoples.
