🔎 In this video, we discuss the importance of keeping arteries clear to prevent conditions like atherosclerosis and suggest incorporating a variety of whole foods that promote artery health.
9. Leafy Greens
Leafy greens are among the most nutrient-dense foods, especially beneficial for atherosclerosis. Leafy greens offer several key advantages, including a significant abundance of potassium and dietary nitrates that can effectively reduce arterial calcification, prevent inflammation, and promote the proper function of blood vessels.
8. Citrus Fruits
Citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and limes are high in flavonoids, particularly Naringin, which has been shown to have significant health benefits. They are also rich in vitamin C, fiber, and other heart-protective nutrients.
7. Beets
Beets contain the phytonutrient compound Betaine which helps to reduce homocysteine levels in the blood, a key factor in reducing the risk of heart disease. They are also rich in nitrates, which the body converts to nitric oxide, and can help to lower blood pressure, improve blood vessel function, and reduce inflammation.
6. Nuts and Seeds
Nuts and seeds are a great source of heart-healthy fats, protein, and fiber, and have been shown to reduce inflammation and improve blood lipid profiles. Eating just a small amount of nuts and seeds per day can significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, kidney disease, neurodegenerative disease, and infectious disease.
5. Beans and Legumes
Beans and legumes are nutritious, filling, and versatile, providing fiber, protein, and minerals that can help reduce blood pressure, improve cholesterol levels, and decrease inflammation. Regular consumption has been linked to reduced markers of cardiovascular disease, reversal of vascular impairment, beneficial effects on gut microbiota, and prevention of insulin resistance.
4. Garlic and Onions
Garlic and onions are rich in compounds with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties, making them excellent for artery health. Garlic's allicin reduces inflammation and prevents plaque buildup, while onions' quercetin and sulfur compounds have potent cardio-protective effects.
3. Spices
Spices provide flavor and potent health benefits, with turmeric as the ultimate anti-inflammatory food, cinnamon reducing high blood pressure, ginger root boosting immunity and improving circulation, cumin and black pepper protecting arteries, and Nigella Sativa having benefits for asthma symptoms, blood sugar control, and reducing inflammation.
2. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Extra virgin olive oil is a healthy option for the diet as it contains oleic acid, polyphenols, and phytosterols which protect against atherosclerosis. Choose cold-pressed options and store in a cool, dark place to maintain its properties.
1. Cruciferous Vegetables
Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, kale, cabbage, and arugula are packed with nutrients and bioactive compounds, with sulforaphane being a key compound that protects the arteries, brain, eyes, and other systems in the body.

All we ate growing up was collard greens flavored with smoked turkey. We ate oranges and most fruits everyday off the trees and bushes except banana and apples. Our Sunday dinners were cheat meals of fried fish or chicken with mashed potato and butter and not gravy and a side of turkey wing noodle soup. Snacks any other day were sunflower seeds, pecan and walnut seeds, and mountains of boiled green peanuts. Lima beans were dinner 2 days out of the week as a side to roasted meat. Everyone got sicker when they started eating at restaurants a lot more and drinking sugary soda. Just try to eat like you did when you were a kid and you'll lose weight and get healthier. They are spot on and I thank God my grandparents gave me a healthy childhood and delicious food.

15:34 9. Leafy Greens: Kale Spinach, arugula, collard greens, and swiss chard. Most nutrient-dense food. Rich in potassium and dietary nitrates. (Vitamin C, Folate, magnesium, Vitamin K & High in fiber) -A daily salad habit is a great way to ensure you're getting enough, as well as green smoothies, or adding a few greens to your cooked meals. 8. Citrus fruits: Oranges, grapefruit, lemons and limes. High content in flavonoids (naringin) High in Vitamin C, reduces inflammation, rich in fiber. -Eat as a snack, add it to smoothies or use them to flavor your water or tea. (I like to drink lemon water in the mornings, use a straw) 7. Beets, Betaine (where the color comes from and has good heart health benefits). Brings homocysteine down. -Beet juice helps lower blood pressure and inflammation. Roast, boil and eat raw. -Be careful taking too much, it can produce kidney stones in some people. 6. Nuts and seeds: walnuts, almonds(Vitamin E), hazelnut, macadamia nuts, chia seeds, flaxseeds(eat GROUND flaxseed) and pumpkin seeds. (Helps vibrant skin and brain health) Can reduce blood inflammation -(I use chia seeds in my smoothies) 5.Beans and Legumes: Pinto beans, black beans, lentils, chickpeas, green peas, and kidney beans(Rich in fiber, protein and minerals) -Salad, soups or stews, or burritos 4. Garlic (let them sit for 10 minutes after cutting before cooking) and Onions! 3.Spices: Cinnamon, turmeric, Ginger root, Cumin and black pepper, Nigella Sativa 2. Extra Virgin Olive Oil (I recommend organic and HIGH quality olive oil. Watch Dr. Berg's video about olive oil.) kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z41hy5Odd9Snf8Y.html 1.Cruciferous veggies: Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, kale, cabbage and Arugula.

I live in Brazil and Thailand 6 months each. It is amazingly difficult to purchase many of these foods. I am constantly amazed that it is rare to meet anybody in these countries that are informed about nutrition, especially in Thailand where the majority of Thais I have met are obsessed with how wonderful their food is.

One of my favorite dishes is roasted brussels sprouts. I toss them in olive oil and sprinkle them with a seasoning mix that includes garlic and onion, and then cover and roast them in the oven. Sometimes I add other vegetables such as cauliflower and peppers. After I take them from the oven I pour a little more olive oil over them prior to serving. Roasted beets are also delicious, but I have a harder time finding them at my grocery.

That sounds like a delicious and healthy dish! Brussels sprouts and other roasted vegetables are not only tasty but also packed with nutrients and fiber. Olive oil is a great choice for roasting as it adds a delightful flavor and offers health benefits too. Beets are a nutritious addition as well, but they might be less commonly available depending on the season and location. Keep exploring different vegetable combinations and seasonings to make your roasted dishes even more exciting. Eating a variety of colorful vegetables can provide a range of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that contribute to overall well-being. Enjoy your culinary creations and continue to savor the goodness of wholesome, roasted vegetables!

I have a problem with bruising on my arms. Sometimes it takes 3 weeks for them to disappear. I attribute it to poor circulation, tho my doctor and blood tests have failed to explain this. After the secondvday of drinking this, I noticed the bruises really started to fade like never before.

They should grind flax seeds into a flour before they sell them because ground flax seeds are more easily absorbed into the body.

Uummm, if you're a man, NO! Flaxseeds and flaxseed oils (along with soy products of any kind) CAN and WILL destroy healthy testosterone levels in men of all ages, and for middle-aged men, it can be absolutely deleterious!

I love Brussel Sprouts but supposedly they can have the worst pesticides when grown for the mass market and can harm the kidneys, organic Brussel Sprouts are better. They make nice treats, once cooked, one can take out the centers and fill them with cream cheese, vegan cream cheese, etc. Though, regular cream cheese may not be best for heart health.
