I got hugely into running by getting a treadmill. It was actually my wife who got it, and initially i didn't like the idea, but now i run on it every day. I know it probably seems like a miserable idea to run on a treadmill instead of 'experiencing the outdoors' or whatever, but for me it's actually really liberating. I can just run and listen to music, without needing to exercise any kind of situational awareness, and i find this gets me into a really meditative mind space. Also, i do it barefoot and it's completely unaffected by the weather, daylight, traffic etc., and i can extend or cut short the distance i run at will, without any route planning required.

I'm not into running, but a walk by a river is an experience. It's just beautiful to look at everything. Listening to the water, seeing all the different kinds of plant life. It's the closest thing you can get to being in a fantasy world. And if you can't find anything very beautiful walking just wait for that 30 minute mark and walking just feels amazing and your brain gets super active and helps you start thinking of stuff too.

lots of great tips - "visual sparseness" aka clear space - said in a true British fashion! I've always been into fitness and my routines and likes have changed over time - I started in my 20's and am now early 40's. I discovered running during covid and it lifts my mood - even when I'm tired in the mornings. 20 minutes is all I need.

Hey, great job with the video! A few tips to possibly fall in love with running: • Train for a race-competing with other runners or just enjoying the communal energy of a race can be a great experience. You could start with a shorter distance like a 5k or 10k, or get a bunch of friends together to do a relay. • Find a running partner-use the opportunity to catch up with a friend that is into running, or someone who wants to get into running, and that way you can motivate each other to stick with it. • Setting goals that will motivate you-like seeing how fast you can run a mile, how far you can go, etc. Measure your progress and see how far you can push yourself. • Explore your surroundings-use it as an opportunity to check out places that you've never been to before; spend time in nature and take in all the sights and sounds of the outdoors.

A great way I developed a positive relationship with running is through shorter, set-based exercises. I'd warm up with a high-pace walk at an incline on the treadmill and then pick up the speed and run a further 0.5km as fast as I comfortably can. Once I hit 0.5km running I gradually bring the speed down to a walking pace for a cool down and repeat the process 3-4 times without stopping. I found this gives me more short-term measureables (each individual 0.5km time) that aren't as daunting as preparing for something like a 5k right off the bat. It's also fun to push yourself for each set by playing with the incline or trying to beat your previous set. I feel it breaks the monotony of a consistent run and still pushes your heart rate up :)

Hi Izzy, another great video, thank you for sharing. I am glad that people like you make impact and share healthy and happy life habits. As for me, I drink water in the morning and during the day, I like to do some activities and short clean-ups. Clean and organized room resonate with clean mind. So, I try to keep it in order. I tried meditation in the evenings.. and in general I practice calm breathing, it really works especially in stressful situations. I want to try morning meditations and maybe running. I was doing it some times in the past... Running also some kind of meditation and helps to calm your mind ;) And Gratitude journaling - is very powerful. I was doing this intensively some years ago, it helped to develop gratitude habit. And if something happens, I feel grateful and thank God or other people who made impact on my life. And try to learn lessons in challenging issues... So, yeah, life is amazing journey and want to live it in full!

You are fabulous. Thank you so much for detailing these habits. I have heard of most of these, but they were not clear on how it worked, so my thought was, "Why do it?" The information you provided was presented so positively that it penetrated my skepticism. Thank you again for that. BTW - I happen to be an endurance coach, so here is my subtle hint on how to enjoy running. Do not be afraid to run slow. Find a pace you feel like you can hold forever. Most of the time, I call this conversational pace. In other words, you should be able to have a full conversation with someone as you run. The first time, run until you just barely start to feel uncomfortable, then stop and walk the rest of the way. Do not worry about how fast you are running; just enjoy it. Make note of how long you ran, and match your next runs to start and end with that specific duration. Do this for a week, then add 5 more minutes the next week, and continue to add each week. After 4 weeks, do the evaluation exercise again. Before you know it, that pace will feel like you can run forever. That is when you can decide if you would like to continue this same routine or take on other types of workouts that will increase your speed and fitness. I hope this helps.

Thank you very much for the wonderful content you make on your channel! I run regularly and here are things that have worked for me: - Run only 2 days a week, but stick to the schedule. - Keep hydrated. I drink water before a run, but I know people also bring a bottle with them. - Avoid pauses/walking and just slow down if you get tired. This helped me run longer distances, which makes running a lot more enjoyable. - Run along beautiful sceneries. - Pay attention to your breathing and posture. I hope you find something helpful 😉

Thank you for the video it was very insightful! I recently got into running about a year and a half ago. I find that I enjoy running more when it's not on a treadmill, it's a little bit more of a forgiving process you can set your own pace and for me it's motivating to feel like i'm going somewhere. I know that sometimes the treadmill is the only option so my greatest advice that worked for me is listening to music. Music really sets a tone for the running (even workouts in general) the song can give you a tempo to run to, you can even switch it up depending on the song or even specific sounds in the song. Running is not easy lol but if you stay consistent it does get easier and you start to crave it. Best of luck to you!

Nasal breathing helps me enjoy running more. I use a nasal dilator to achieve this and cultivated the habit gradually over time. I also like to treat running like a moving meditation with mindfulness of my breath being the main focus. During the first few steps of any effort, I like to take a longer relaxed breath out then lock my attention on my breath (letting the breath breath itself so to speak) with my eyes focused softly on a distant point (exteroception outward focus), a somewhat relaxed belly, and a sustainable rhythm/pace with my feet. Going at my own pace. Picking the right music. Staying within my abilities. Not overdoing it. Gentle warm up. Multiple rest breaks. These things help me enjoy running more even though it’s still quite an intense form of exercise that I prefer to do when rested and fresh. Thanks for all the amazing videos! 😄

I'm with SGI (Nichiren Buddhism) and I can't help but see a lot of commonality with your daily routine. For me, it's starting the day with chanting that is of most benefit. It's that daily space for dialogue with yourself that leads to all manner of knock on effects: the resetting of your mind for the day ahead, the self-change that occurs to you to operate better in the real-world, the real-world proof and the space to be grateful for it, the reaching for new set of goals and marvelling at how the practice is making them come into reach. The net effects are ebullient attitude, conviction, being driven (because you can make a success out of anything) and having joy in life.

Thanks for the positive sharing!! I think for running, it's actually is also varied much like mediation/yoga that was mentioned, I find it very okay to run once I started using the breathing technique (e.g. breathe in for 3 steps, breath out for 3 steps) and slowly increasing the count - alternate between interval training and stamina training, you could just do it at night too, like right after work and before dinner and once running is "habitual", it actually frees up your mind and you get to think about many things, I guess it can be sorta like mediation

Thanks for the advices :) last week me and my boyfriend broke up, it’s been very hard I’ve been lost but I know that I have to move on and keep going. This advices are excellent! I’ll put them in practice.

On running.. I find trail running as a way to clear my mind. Running in nature has a calming effect versus running around traffic. It helps to have a running buddy as company during the run. It is not as easy as lacing up trainers and hitting the road outside my flat. I need to drive to a wooded area that has trails for hiking. Good luck with the running.. Cheers! -Leo

Great tips! Here in Norway we sometimes don't have any light at all until 9am. Most people start work at 8am (having commuted to work in total darkness), and the first chance to spend 15 minutes outside isn't until 1-2pm (because lunch breaks are only 30 minutes and it is too cold to eat outside). Then it is dark again by 3pm!
