Its insane to think the BBC used to just erase episodes of their TV shows to save tape. Monty Python almost got erase but John Cleese himself convinced them to stop.

I heard recently that former Beatle George Harrison, who was a MASSIVE Monty Python fan, saved some (if not a lot) of the original show reels.

@@FletcherWilbury Correct, Harrison himself used to screen Python in his home cinema.

I didnt get it untill someone explained that people at the BBC originally though of their work as theatre, broadcast. No theatre actor expected their performance to be preserved any more than on the stage, because there was no concept of the preservation of such performances. All film work was considered kind of etherial. there was no home media, and their contracts only allowed the shows to be screened twice. The broadcasts were the performance. Even then, the people wiping the tapes and the people junking the films werent aware they were the only copies...
Lost Media you've watched yourself and now is lost is so eery

I remember TechTV (before being bought and turned into G4). I am sure much of that is lost also.
Correction on the Doctor Who audio being available. It is not because of how they "stored the files" (these episodes only existed on film and tape). Fans of the series began recording audio from the TV at home. It's a pure miracle that every missing has a complete audio track (minus a couple of seconds here and there) and that they survived long enough to be discovered.

Most of them were recorded by two fans, Graham Strong and David Holman. Ironically, one stopped recording audio of episodes just after the other started. The BBC did often store the audio separately on tape, though. He was partially correct.
The reason Doctor Who focused so much on the history at first was because the show was devised as a way to teach children history and science in a fun way. It was only meant to last a little while, and they didn't want to go down the route of "bug-eyed monsters". Look how that turned out haha.
Love it, crazy how shows can just go missing even after being aired

One day, aliens deep in space may receive the radio waves used to transmit those shows and make an archive of them, perhaps even searching for the civilization that made them

FINALLY!!!! SOMEONE IS TALKING ABOUT MR. SQUIGGLE!!! I've been trying to contact ABC but they won't answer, luckily, I got the honor to meet the original puppets!! (I am Australian by the way)

I remember Mr Squiggle very well, when I younger. It inspired me to draw and do cartoons. I remember I would do a squiggle and past to my sister and she would do the same, trying to make fun drawings from the squiggles we just did. It still brings a smile to me face whenever I see it, and I am in my mid (ish) 30s.
Very creepy how easily things can become lost media.
The sad thing is "All That" hasn't been able to be found uncut. Viacom has only allowed rebroadcasts for certain episodes. I would say it is due to the fact that royalties involving music.

Well I did found three episodes from season 2 from a official source that Nickelodeon released on iTunes back in 2013 under a 4 episode compilation named "All That retro essentials vol.1." And it had 3 episodes from season 2 with the musical guests uncut. In now in recent years the official All that youtube channel released clips of the musical performances from the old show. Most of them were from seasons 3-5. And there are more on the official All that facebook page too... And don't forget that the All that official youtube channel has high quality clips from season 1 too and some through cast members over the years clip compilation videos too. I don't even know why Nickelodeon today would "officially" show clips of the musical performances from the classic show through one of their official youtube channels or facebook page, release a compilation of older episodes with the musical guests uncut on iTunes in 2013 after years of losing the rights to the music, and show high quality clips from a season they don't want to air... I mean I know it's only on social media, but I am getting the feeling that Nickelodeon isn't telling us something about it. Making us assume the reason why the music was cut from the show. If Viacom buying Dreamworks for 1.6 billion dollars was the case for losing the rights to the music that was on the show, and not releasing season 3 of Pete and Pete on DVD. (Which would also be the case of not releasing All that on DVD.) Then that might be an a real reason why. I don't know... That's just me talking...
One lost media. It is a third Demolition Man video game from 2002 or 2003 for either the PS2, PC or Xbox. Might be called Demolition Man 3D, and it is a almost perfect retelling of the 1993 film. Never play it, but I watch it on XPlay before. The only thing I remember about it, was John Spartan's final battle against Simon Phoenix in the cryogenic room for criminals.
Mad TV has alot of lost sketches too and it had 15 seasons but only 4 got released on DVD
I think the tonight show with Johnny Carson would be a good fit for a list like this it aired from 1962 to 1992 and only less one percent of every episode before 1972 is accounted for it was an incredibly popular show and so little people talk about its lost episodes
Some episodes Season 1 of All That is missing again, unless someone saved those episodes as the links in the LMW page are dead.

A group of teenagers discussing current events pretending to be an actual news outlet? I think the real reason the show ended was because they couldn't compete with reddit.
Hopefully we can find more Attack of the Show episodes now that G4's coming bcak.
Ahhh, I loved attack of the show! Not sure how it would hold up today, reviewing old tech and old pop culture references, "edgy" early 2000s humor etc.
Surprised that someone mentioned classic Doctor Who episodes being missing on a lost media video. The BBC really screwed up there.
Great job! I watch a lot of lost media videos, yet you still presented many that I had no idea about. Plus, you have top notch editing and narration. Hope to see more from you soon💖
Such high quality video and audio, yet below 1000 subs is a crime. Good video man, keep it up

Are you sure Toonheads ran until 2005? I distincly remember watching a Christmas episode on Christmas eve in 2006. I could be wrong, but 2006 is genuinely what I remember.

Technically almost every Hannah Barbara show that isn't Scooby Doo or Lonney toons is pretty much lost. There's compilations on YT and that's it. Not even Boomerang airs it anymore
why on god's green earth would you even use erasable tapes for ANYTHING.

It’s weird how nostalgic G4 makes me. I feel like I watched it constantly. But the reality is that I never gave it more than a glance.
Great video
Mr. Squiggle looks like the unholy love child of Mr. Noseybonk and Pencilface.
Used to watch Attack Of The Show all the time I miss it 😔
I loved the show Splat! As a kid but it is mostly lost (not the nickelodeon Splat! Which is also partially missing, but this one was about the art of animation and what went into making cartoons)
Man I loved Attack! Of The Show when I was in highschool, it always sucked it went massively down hill out of nowhere and then canceled. Also really loved Code Monkeys on G4
Nick News ruined my childhood lol It brought my Nickelodeon watching to a screeching halt lol
Great video!
Man, I was on Nick news when I was little.
I love the mix of Nu Who when it’s only the Old Who that’s lost. And let’s be honest, there’s completely different audiences for both.
I feel sorry for those who cant appreciate these lost gems, or know where to find them. Some are not even worth finding...
Actually, lost Doctor Who episodes are being found every year,
So as someone who was on one ot the last episodes of Nick News, they sent me a DVD of my episode so there's a good chance any teen on the 97 missing episode could have a copy!!

11/23/1963 - the day inbetween JFK and Oswald being killed, and of course, the number 23 being involved. Theory: Transporting between universes, the Doctor himself erased all those episodes, insuring the future creation of time travel to recover them.
Pretty sure most people hated Nick News.

I used to watch Screen Savers on TechTV before the channel was assimilated by G4 and the show replaced with Attack of the Show. I never did watch much G4 or AotS.
Mr squiggles ended the day before I was born. Wack
TIL Attack of the Show ended on my 19th birthday 😐
