What do you recommend for standing out? I understand admissions officers read thousands of essays, how can I find the right balance between overly eccentric and boring when self-editing?

Hi!! Two of my PIQ's are from experiences/more in-depth showing how I took on leadership and I listed in my extracurricular area as well. Should I be worried about these two areas overlapping? Thanks!

Hi Kristine, you should try not to discuss one experience at length in more than one essay. You want to come across as a well-rounded individual, so repeating yourself will not be a worthwhile use of your essays.

Hi Hailey, I was wondering if you recommend focusing on one challenge I've faced and how I overcame it (prompt #5) or do you think I can use multiple challenges but explain how they've shaped me into the person I am today? (I used 3 examples but all are very personal and give insight to the person I am)

Hailey, I watched every single videos about UC Application from you and I got SO MANY and ESSENTIAL tips. Thank you sooooooo much. And I found your story and mine are kind of alike. I failed so hard at highschool with 2.6 GPA or something, clearly remember in 1 semester I literally had 3 Fs and had to take summer class, was very shy. Even at CC, I thought I wasn't ready after 2 years study, I have no extracurricular that I can say stand out. But at CC I managed to have 3.92 GPA and had really good work experience with 1 extra year and I am proud! So I really really got so much help and confidence from your video! But I still have so many things I want to ask and I wonder if you can spare me like 30 minutes and allow me to ask you questions 1 on 1? Would that be possible?

Hi Hailey, you’re awesome! I have a question . I had a semester that wasn’t necessarily my best. I’ve had straight A’s all through out high schools and my other 3 semesters In CC, so this bad semester sticks out like a sore thumb. Should I explain what happened? There is a section in the app that allows me to do this. Thanks!

yes, that is the purpose of the additional comments section. you should take advantage of it especially if you have not addressed it in any of your PIQs.

in one of your other vids you mentioned writing about your job for one of the PIQs. did you also list it under work experience?? I've heard before that they don't want the same info in multiple parts of the app, and I'm paranoid now lol

You should always list all relevant experiences even if you talk about them in your PIQs. I believe the note you mentioned is in relation to not discussing the same information in detail in separate essays.

Hi, Just wanted to know how difficult is it to get into UCLA as an out of state international student. I am in my first year right now studying computer science at University of Maryland and am currently trying to complete my pre reqs. I want to transfer to UCLA for Computer Science in HSSEAS. I am currently maintaining a GPA of 3.95, do you think I have a chance?

Hey Hailey, I'm applying to UC this fall. Do the UC app readers take into consideration my final grades for this current semester (and the next one after that) im enrolled in? I know I have to update my application some time after these 2 semesters but do these grades have an effect on my chances of getting into a UC? Or do they just look at (in my case) my previous and first 2 semesters in CC that I will have on my app when I submit it?

  • @HaileyDollarGoesToCollege

TrustInJus1in hi there, applications aren’t reviewed until after the academic update is submitted in January. All grades reported at that point will be considered, including Fall 2020. Hope that helps
