Hi Jose, I think your question is based around this idea that college is as clique-y as high school, and I am here to tell you that it is not the way it works. No one is closed off from making from in college after their freshman year. In fact, people are very social in college classes.

I’m attending a CCC this year and planning on transferring to a UC. I’ve always wanted to graduate early (2.5-3 years instead of 4). Is it harder to accomplish that if you transfer from a community college? Do you know of anyone that’s done this or have advice? I’ve looked at resources like Assist and it’s been helpful but also difficult!

It's possible but it would be difficult. To start, it would be near impossible to complete a sufficient amount of units to be eligible to transfer in under 1 year (which would really be one semester/quarter, because you apply a year in advance). At the UC level, upper division coursework is designed to be completed in 2 years. Some majors are shorter than others, but you must also consider that you most likely won't get your ideal class schedule each quarter. People have definitely done this before, but in my opinion it's not worth the extra pressure on yourself only to reduce your studies by one year.

Hi Julia, in this case the only way to see if the classes transfer is to have your transcript reviewed by an academic advisor at UCLA, but this is something that is only done for students after they are accepted.

Hi Michela, it’s possible but probably not easy. Priority consideration is given to students who haven’t had a chance to attend a 4 year university.

I’ve heard of TAP for California community colleges. Is the admit rate really 70-95% for TAP-certified students transferring to UCLA? And if so, why so high compared to the admit rate for high school freshman? I just don’t understand how such a selective college could ever have such high admission rates, and why more people aren’t flocking to enter in the college that way, given that UCLA receives a sh** ton of applicants.

Hello there, I don't know the admit rates off the top of my head but it is definitely higher at the community college level. The reason is that it is a much smaller applicant pool for transfers than for freshman. If people started flocking as you said then the rate would go down. For TAP specifically, these applicants are given priority consideration over everyone else.

I do a sport that isn't in college, so if I go to UCLA I'd need a car to drive to practice. How do you go about having a car (and parking space) as a transfer?? Also, love your channel :)

Hi Anjali, the parking situation differs for on and off campus housing. If you live off campus, there is a high chance that you could pay for a parking space at your apartment. If you live on campus, parking is nearly impossible to get. Exceptions are made for people who have a need to travel off campus, such as to a job or to take care of a relative or something. You must provide proof of these commitments (pay-stub and the like). I don't believe a recreational sport would count as a need to leave campus. Parking is also assessed quarterly, so even if you are granted a parking permit for the fall, that does not guarantee that you would get a spot in the winter or spring quarters.

Oh okay, I guess that makes sense. Seems likes an apartment would be the best way to go then in this situation. Thank you for the info!

What Hailey says is true, parking is nearly impossible to get without proof of need for on-campus, however that doesn’t mean you can’t seek on-campus housing. Several people in the surrounding apartments lease their parking spots or even apartment buildings do this themselves. You can find a parking spot to lease close to the Hill, you don’t need to rely on UCLA owned parking. I will say that parking is expensive whether it’s ucla owned or not. A private parking spot is around $150 each month, so it’s definitely worth thinking about before you decide to bring your car.

Hello, parking on campus is quite difficult from what I’ve heard (depending on the time of day). I don’t know how much it costs for a pass but I’m sure you can find this info on the UCLA transportation website. Hope that helps! Congrats on transferring!
