My mom taught us to soak the husks in hot water, separate them, pull out any cornsilk and separate your husks by sizes. Big and medium ones for tamales, small ones for using to create bigger tamales, tying and using to insulate tamales in pot.

My Mom always told us 7 Sisters, ... put your HAIR up or in a Ponytail when you are in the Kitchen or especially when preparing Tomales or any Food.❤🎉. I STARTED USING A STAND UP MIXER AS WELL.
Thank you. My passed in 2018, and I didn't get her recipe. I watched her but didn't write anything down. You are the only person who makes tamales like her. I know this because when you are sharing, it jogs my memories. Thank you so much beautiful... Brightest Blessings

My Gramita ALWAYS hydrated the corn husks the night before with super hot water, and I do too now, I think it makes a huge difference! Just make sure they stay completely submerged, we usually put our molcajete on top for that.😅

Hello! I love your videos! Could u show us how to make a good enchilada sauce? The store bought ones a are so lacking compared to what you get in the restaurants
oir tamales in the Philippines made from glutenous rice with lye and the sauce made from ciconut milk with mascovado or brown sugar cooked until it is smooth and sweet.

My favorite tamels are made with the yellow corn. So how would I make them if I bought store bought masa?
The first tip is to cut your nails or use kitchen gloves to manipulate food!
I make my own masa using lard, tamel maseca, hot water, baking powder, salt, chicken broth, and chili powder and they always come out AMAZING

@@mayrajscortes yeah so I use the chicken broth powder or like the bullion powder, I think it’s just cause personally I like making sure all the powder goes with the powder and then all the wet stuff goes with the wet stuff. just personal preference :)

@dr3am3r20 got it. Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I'm allergic to the bouillon, but a tip from my mom is to boil the water with the bouillon and add garlic and anion, more flavorful that way

Arkansas had the Best Tamales that I ever had and I can't find any as good,.
Why do we need to put ice in the Masa? Way back when my ancestors began making tamales, there was no ice.🤔

@@tavishlopez9354 well, there might have not been domesticated animals but there was out in the wild and your probably right about the cheese cuz that came from Europe. The point is we’re doing to much. We have lost the essence of our food really our entire culture 😟

@@maribelsalas2179 chicken, cows, and pigs are not native to the Americas, so they came to Mexico the same way cheese did. Precolonial Mexican food was not as heavy with meat as it is today. But I get your point. I’m actually going to try two masa mixes, one with ice and one without and see if it makes a difference. I can keep you updated if you’d like

You don't have to, it's just a texture thing. The ice keeps the lard from melting making them more fluffy vs denser. Both are good, it's just a tip/trick
When you cook,you should pull your hair back or in a pony tail.

We always make extra to freeze and reheat. The way we freeze and preheat them is by putting them in freezer ziplock bags. We do not precook them. Just don’t over stuff the bag so they don’t get squished, then freeze. Whenever you want to cook them, have your pot ready just like shown in the video, take them out of the freezer, make sure to stand them open side up, cook, and enjoy! 🫔

Yes, us Central Americans use banana leaf instead of the corn husk. Different flavor. Personally, I prefer the flavor of the corn husk.
