Stu Ungar was a genius at many card games. One of the best gin rummy players ever, if not the best. Ungar beat Harry Stein, who was considered the best player at the time, 86 games to zero!! Stein was so psychologically destroyed by this, he basically stopped playing the game completely. After beating his opponent, Ungar would offer double or nothing if he was able to tell the other player what cards he was still holding. Being that Ungar had a photographic memory, those who took him up on this offer ALWAYS ended up paying double. Absolute legend but a tragic story nonetheless. Side note: Wild Bill Hickok was murdered in Saloon # 10 in Deadwood South Dakota, NOT North Dakota.

@@CG-jo6oc He was a genius at cards in general. He excelled at every variation he played. With his phenomenal memory, he didn’t need a “system”. A counting system is generally applied when multiple decks are being used. It’s simply a method which allows someone to assess the composition of the cards not yet played. After doing so, one then alters their betting strategy in order to improve their odds and hence their advantage. In gin rummy only one deck is used and Ungar had the ability to remember every card that was played. He was really on a completely different level than even the best gin rummy and poker players. His contemporaries all say he was the best poker player of his time. If you ask 50 top poker players today who the best player is, you’ll probably get 40 different opinions. Cheers!

Stu Unger would have won in 1990 since he won it in 1997. 4x champ. He was the best card player not just poker player in the world.

IF Unger didn't get blitzed outta his mind on drugs in 1990 he would have won that year too and been a 4 time champion.

You mention some nobody dying at a poker game but neglect that a poker legend, Jack "Tree top" Straus died playing poker at the Bike! I do get it though, mentioning two players dying while playing or two Jack Straus stories might have been a bit redundant.

How is that TEN high call not the best call ever? Name ANY other hand at these high stakes that's better. You can't. That's totally INSANE to call w 10 high and be right.

He called a huge bet but didnt go all in. He knew he was drawing. Only low cards were possible to make a draw. Both checked the King so that confirmed it for Stu. When he jammed on Q which was lower then the King all in...he knew he missed his draw and knew his 10s were good.

Same flop twice, pretty cool.

There was one Ungar final hand, played outdoors, where he won on the river and his opponent KNEW he was cheated by a second-dealing dealer. You can see the look on his face, forgot the name or even the year - had to be one of the years Ungar won, but it was a very suspicious deal.

Just came here after watching 'High Rollers Stu Ungar story'

I'm pretty sure Annette played a low stakes tournament, I remember it was said to be like a $10 mtt. It may have been lower than that.

Nah, if the guy showed the 7 instead, his opponent would have just put him on A7 or something. Showing the 2 was his only way to win.

True. When that 2 came out he said that did it and made that huge bet. If he turned the 7 he would have known he was bluffing since the 7 hit the flop and he made the big bet on the turn

7-2 hand - the 2 does help him because it give him two more cards to make a fullhouse and beat his opponent. It's not a neutral card - it gives him 4 potential outs instead of 2... Hopefully that helps.

$25 TO set up a bad bluff. A strong had would try and induce a call. It was an obvious bluff trying to chase the guy off his hand. It worked.

whats interesting about the hand is that Unger raises 4x what kind of player is calling a 4x raise out of position most playable hands would have to raise in that spot, calling with 54 is a terrible play from the get go so when he overbet the flop and just gets called its becomes apparent he has some sort of weak draw checking the turn gives further evidence of this then jamming the river for no reason makes no sense because hands that have a king in them probably reraise preflop if he had a queen he would have bet the turn, if he had a he would have raise preflop so the bluff made no sense pretty much Unger's opponent was a donkey who tried to buy the pot on the river witha huge over bet just a terrible play so its not all that brilliant when you follow the action and know the player is a very remedial holdem player

He probably had a read on ungar and did the best he could to bluff it imean if anyone has j hi they'd fold to an all in of 35k of real cash it was a great bluff and a great call to say it wasn't that brilliant is dumb af the only other call I seen was j hi from Eric siediel and it was kinda obvious dude had a busted flush draw but to put someone on a busted gut shot thats stuff especially when there shoving the river

You have to remember this was a very long time ago. Poker has changed a lot since then. It may be an easy read today but poker back then was more abc. Phil Ivey is regarded as one the best in the modern game, but if you watch Ivey a few years back, he wasn’t capable of making the plays he makes today.

From what I heard, she posted her hand history after the tournament. While you couldn't tell from the hand history that she looked exactly once, it was obvious that she was at least mostly playing blind (e.g., folding Aces pre-flop). Many also consider her many other amazing feats (e.g., becoming the youngest player to win a WSOP in 2007) to make this more believable.

Annette is an absolute beast and thinking on such a higher level than any of about poker.. it is certainly true that she did that! She may have looked pne time.. why would she say she looked once if she was lying, shouldnt she say she never did!

The only other time I ever saw someone with that much card talent was when in Missouri and that was 40 years ago - no joke ! You could cut & deal the cards and this kid would win to the point no one wanted to approach his table. When you have that much talent to intimate other players that alone is - it's own video . . . Regarding Obrestads way of playing (not seeing her cards). The only problem is that the person behind this video probably wasn't born or in his diapers) back then (and probably can't play poker either.) Just to enlighten him a bit. - I used to do the same. Player was so easy to read and you could (without breaking a sweat) navigate yourself to the finale table (top 3) without ever looking at your card (at least two times out of three at the lower levels and one time out of three at the highest level.) You cant do the same today! So real poker players do trust her based on the fact that they know the circumstances. (She doesn't need to prove it with a video. But if you want proof. Look at the cards she trowed away. (She have published the complete hand history from that game. A couple of high pairs (aces and similar hands) against bluffs in big hands when she had the nuts no matter what That´s the way she proved it back then, so yes people can see the truth! (Poker player anyway.) My question, What kind of newbie are you?! (If you don't understand this?!)
