5 Common Jab Mistakes: This Should be Your Best Punch!
Спорт
There's a good reason why the jab is the first punch you will learn in boxing: because it should be your BEST punch! It exerts the least amount of energy, acts as a probe, dictates the range, and sets up combos.

Man, I LOVE your videos. You really know what you're talking about. I've been a boxer for 6, almost 7 years now and in my free time I thumb through your vids just to cherry pick on some of your advice. The only thing I wanted to bring up was something you said at the end of mistake 2 when you mentioned those guys who complain of elbow pain from throwing jabs. I was expecting you to bring it up but it was overlooked. One of the most common causes of elbow pain from throwing jabs is not utilizing the corkscrew effect when throwing them. Not only does it exert more power when throwing your jab or right cross, but it also eliminates any snap on your elbow when it's thrown. Likewise, when you use the corkscrew effect it also causes your shoulder to rotate upward, guarding your chin and leaving you less exposed to a counter strike if they telegraph the jab, circle right (or left if you're a southpaw) where your chin would be exposed otherwise. Other than that little interjection, I have NOTHING negative to say about what you do here on youtube. You're a fantastic boxer and martial artist all around. Keep up the great work man!

limbs naturally spiral on extension. Stopping the spiral is unnatural and therefore tensioning on incorrect muscles. Results in reduction in speed and injuries. Free natural flow is the way.
@resedent2009

kai I don’t understand why you think the shoulder and radius/Ulna naturally internally rotate during extension of the elbow? The wrist flexors, pec group, internal rotator cuff etc. don’t fire automatically during elbow extension/shoulder flexion

Great pointers. The elbow pain is ridiculous because I've been overextending my jab.
Hey, Shane. Elbow pain with the jab is real. I'm a tall dude with long-ass arms so I was struggling with that a lot. What I found is when you rotate your wrist during the jab so your thumb points down towards the floor then the joints align and your shoulder comes naturally upwards to the side of your face, so you don't eat a hook. The jab becomes powerful and stable, no pain. Same goes for the cross. Thanks for the video.
First video I've watched of yours, and I'm impressed- nothing but useful info that covers everything. I like that you explained right shoulder slightly back as left goes forward- nobody ever explains this and it has such an impact on power- automatic subscriber

How do i know I’m improving/have improved throughout the years? Every step he mentions in this video i have already kept in mind & still keep up with. Glad he was able to put it all together to clearly explain how to have a very effective jab. Great video bro. 🙏🏽🥊
Just to add: A solution for elbow pain in the jab is to rotate the fist more. This prevents popping the elbow at full extension. Once enough experience is obtained, this will not be an issue with or without fist rotation as the student's body adjusts to the jab and it becomes natural. Great video!

Personally I've always found jabs are most effective when using a recently broken in half pool cue. You wi...OH GOD PLEASE DONT SHOOT ME"

#4 is what i see most often, even pro mma and boxers do that. amanda nunes is a great example. her punches drop after extension.
I've struggled with most of these with my left jab ever since I've started boxing, making it difficult to get any follow-ups, especially the telegraphing. I've recently switched to southpaw because of it, and my sparring has drastically improved
