How to Punch While Moving (Boxing Footwork)

Спорт

Many of you have been asking for boxing footwork drills for fighting, specifically "how to punch while moving." These 3 foot movements are effective ways to control the range, create angles, and keep your opponent at bay, all while throwing punches.

Coming from a boxing background, I started MMA last year and I noticed that a lot of guys are very good grapplers, but their standup struggles because they lack these fundamentals . I recommend this video to all of my grappling guys. Great video, man.

I have this very stubborn friend named Paul who thinks that striking is useless because Judo "thought of every possible strike that could be thrown and how to counter it". He can effectively punch someone without hurting himself, but every time I offer to take him to my MMA gym, he simply declines saying that he doesn't really need to work on his striking. But the fact is, he couldn't set up an angle for a punch if his brother's life depended on it, so maybe you could give me a few words of advice that could help me convince him that striking IS necessary.

@@user-qy3jq9kr1d Maybe you should point out that a huge amount of people have died by just one punch. You, have to realize it only takes one punch for a knock out (concussion) and then further brain trauma with your head bouncing off the ground. That's how most people are killed. I'll add this a reality based self defense systems founder I follow named Tim Larkins said he used to collect news articles of people who died by one strike. Well, after he started going over a hundred he stopped putting in the effort. Oh, furthermore another suggestion is with the strikes you don't see and you need to make some distance to get your bearings and come back with your own attacks. I say this from seeing video footage of people being hit in the back of the head. They were knocked out in these cases, but that doesn't mean that's a given. So if you're not knocked out via a strike like that you need footwork to regain your composure and escape that standing still for further attacks. Hope this helps, because I really feel for you. It's like he should just try it out with you, it's not a big commitment.

I'm a kyokushin karate fighter (I've been practicing karate for nearly 5 years) and I also play judo (7 months till now). Today I went to a boxing gym so I can learn how to defend against face boxing since karate kyokushin doesn't allow that especially in tournaments yet I was surprised to realize that all the players didn't know nothing about the leg movements. They fought like beasts and I saw no techniques or even techniques in avoiding the boxes and so on . I thought maybe my view about boxing and what I thought it was was wrong. So when I came home, I started searching about the techniques of boxing and so on and realized the problem was with the training. That gym that I went to only cares about punching like crazy till someone gets knocked out without using the basic leg movements and techniques. To be honest, this video taught me more than that gym. Thanks. 👍

Shane, this is absolutely outstanding instruction in terms of articulation, demonstration, video quality, and forethought. The point about right-cross pivot with foot in midair, to lessen friction and increase power transmission, is exactly the kind of granular observation I look for now. I've been working on boxing a long time (now 74, started decades ago), and have learned extremely valuable advantages from watching your videos. Keep 'em coming please!

Wow, really love the "diamond step" stepping to the side and striking. I've been doing another method that fully turns you out to the side. It's great for leaving the range of strikes but doesn't let you be in range for your own striking. So yeah, will have to take that into my shadow boxing work.

Great video! I love it when you do footwork videos! Do you think you could put out an advanced footwork drill? I’d love to see it
