3 MONTH SURF PROGRESSION | Adv Beginner To Intermediate Female
Surfing progression tends to happen in stages. You improve your surfing in bursts followed by plateaus which is typical of an extreme sport without a repetitive playing environment.
In this video we track one of my coaching clients 3 month's progress from advanced beginner to intermediate. I'm super pumped with her progress!

Omg i really enjoyed watching that because most of the surf videos and tutorials out there show already very good surfers or complete beginners!
You have inspired me Kale to think more when surfing thank you. Especially the bigger waves 321 go. My self belief confidence and knowledge have all improved because of your videos
I've been quite frustrated with myself recently as I've hit a big plateau in my surfing ability. I always feel like I should be better than I am having been surfing for about a year and a half. thanks Kale for reminding us how frequent plateaus and frustration can be while helping us to make leaps In our surfing abilities one video at a time!!
Loved to see that progression... You both did an amazing job! Thanks for sharing, it boosts my will to progress although I'm forced to practice on concrete only.
Thanks for all the great tutorials Kale
I have my first surf lesson on Monday 🔥🔥
I always thought that debutant couldn’t surf shortboards until they became at least intermediate but this girl did an amazing job ! Her progression is so motivating I planned to start surfing next summer I hope I will be able to do as good as her she’s really inspiring ! Thank you for this video !

This is excellent analysis and details. What I really enjoyed is the ability to see the progression of a surfer with the visuals and the analysis and narration of what was happening. Also good to get an idea of what intermediate looks like and where to go. The surf skate tips are also excellent Kale and the linking between the ocean and the hard stuff is really great. Thanks heaps mate.

Nice vid. Stance is so important. A strict squat stance gives you no room for shoulders and hips to rotate, whereas a stance closer to a lunge allows for shoulders to be almost square to nose of board during compression and for more natural rotation of shoulders and upper body through turns. Took me years to work out proper functional stance. In fact, still working on it!
wonderfully clear :3 thanks a lot for that :)

And it’s the first time I hear that surf progression is usually slow!!! Cause I feel exactly the same, like I’m improving and then I suddenly feel like a beginner again. Amazing content, thank you so much! Your videos have been a huge help to my surfing journey. I'm currently happily stuck in Bali and looking to take a surfing lesson. What do you think are some of the things to look for when one is choosing a surf instructor or a program? (especially as a beginner-intermediate surfer who is looking to improve on cutbacks and other vertical surfing abilities). You have a really observant and dedicated way of looking at surf coaching, and I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this. Cheers!

Hey Kale, thanks that’s super helpful video! May I have two questions please? - how many times per week did you practice, approximately? - would these tips work as well on a 8,7 soft board? (The bottom turn, etc.) Thx! And have a good day shredding!
This was so informative to see this progression on a more average surfer. Heaps easier to relate to than someone who can bust airs like they're no big deal 😝

Thanks so much for this video, this is incredibly useful!! It's so hard to find content on what is exactly the path between catching the first unbroken waves and the advanced maneuvers..like what happens in the middle?! Finally a very well documented answer! Great improvement! Her skill level she’d improve a lot faster on a funshape.
I've been surfing for 5 months and I struggle to stand I can stand and pump a wave but I don't get good positioning and I have a bad stance when I surf I also put my back foot on the board first which locks my hips as u have said in one of your other videos do you have any tips ?
Awesome video! What board is she using??
How are you guys filming your training sessions? What camera are you using? Looks awesome!
Great videos, great job!! One question, I have regular stance in surfing but in skateboarding I have goofy stance. For a better surf workout should I force a regular stance in skateboarding. I’m meaning a surf skateboard like Smoothstar. I appreciate your opinion. Cheers!

Commit to the surfing one it’s harder to change
Hey, do you think that If you already Skatebaorded for years so you Bring a Very good Sense for Balance you have good prerequisites to learning how to Surf quickly?
As on the skateboard, you are using your back leg to create power / thrust. Try using your back foot / leg when turning around from your re-entry , after you've completed your bottom turn and are starting to come down from the top of the wave. Don't put all your weight on / over your front foot or you'll lean forward and fall off. push down with your back leg as you turn back to the wave. Remember your body will follow your EYES.
Mate tommorrow is our second swell we have had all year pretty much and we only get the right winds when its like head high waves
also these videos are great
🔴PLEASE RESOPND!!🔴 hey kale! I love love love your videos!! So I’ve been surfing for a couple months with my dad, but I can pop up on a wave storm foamy on small white water, and I know how to duck dive. I want to progress so badly. Should I get lessons? Btw I live in San Clemente so idk many personal lesson coaches. And I’m a little scared of big waves on the wavestorm board, but I feel really good on my fish/shortboard because I know I can duck dive and avoids the wave. I really need your help. And how should my dad help me progress? I don’t really love the Wave storm board because it’s so heavy, but there’s is this board called the “Sushi 5.2-6’” and it’s a fish, but a foamy, so maybe that would work, any word? I’ve spent everyday (14 years/ my age) in the water, so I understand the ocean very well. Please help🤙🏽🌺love from San Clemente
What surfboard shape size and volume was she using ? compared to her own height and weight ? Thanks
Nice one.
This is so sick to see dude good stuff.
Great video! I have a "technical" question: could she benefit for using a foam board? If not, why? I'm pretty much at the same stage shown in the very first minutes (I can position, paddle in and take off most of the times) and I'm trying to understand if it's time for me to say goodbye to my 8'0 foamie or it still viable for me without slowing me down during the process. Thanks!
