Surfing saved my life. I was always depressed as a person unless I had competitive things like footy and skating. That got harder as I got older, I'm 38 now and started surfing 3 months ago, been in water everyday and am progressing very quickly.. did an air today :)

I've skated for almost 30 years for the same reason...unfortunately I don't live anywhere near the ocean else I'd surf, too. Just watching it relaxes me, I can only imagine how great it would feel catching a wave.

That's an amazing story cause you're clearly progressing fast, but I suffer from a similar thing, and surfing is just masking it for now.. I'd suggest trying therapy or something to help relieve the recurring depression. Wishing you all the best.
_SURF CAMPS HATE HIM!_ actually such a high quality video. Plenty good stuff for advanced surfers too🤙 good form and style too! Those aerial shots are so good!!

I've been surfing for coming up on 30 years, my daughter started surfing last year, this is the first summer she's been surfing 100% on her own (no boosting into waves, paddling herself out etc.) She's now working on progressing her skills and watching these videos with her is a HUGE help (sassy pre-teens don't always want to listen to Dad) Great job with your content! Thank you!

Hi Jason, yeah apart from the old muscles needing some exercise, it was pretty much like riding a bike, bit of a few wobbles to start but quickly remembered... I practiced pop ups like mad beforehand too.. But yeah its literally like riding a bike or having a go on a skateboard after a few years
hi! I’m 14 and spanish, I have been surfing just since I am 12 but I feel like it’s all I want to do , its a feeling nothing else can replace. I really hope i get better though the years and can make my own surf school so I can share my passion and show people that surfing is so much more than a sport. ❤️

I live a few houses from the beach in NJ. I love the ocean love the beach. I’ve been so terribly depressed and have found it hard to find joy in much these days. I haven’t been on a surf board in over 10 years. I just went and bought a new board. I’m excited and nervous but it’s great to feel something other than blank. Im looking forward to this new hobby and chapter.
Some of your tips have taken my surfing to another level. Im no pro by ANY means but i can bottom turn, top turn, pump for speed, clear sections that i couldnt before. So thank you Kales.
LOVE this video! I've been trying to move from beginner to intermediate for years, and I feel that for the first time I understand what I need to focus on and how I can approach it. Thank you!
Thanks man for doing all your videos. I don’t get to surf much. Paddling strength and fitness are my biggest failing. Your landlocked tips and workouts are helping me work towards better fitness to when I finally go surfing again.
I love how you step down from the perspective of an advanced surfer to that of a beginner to help us who are just starting out and have so many questions. Thank you!!!
Hello, kale I’m a beginner surfer from Taiwan! I want to let you know that you are doing an amazing job to guide me through my surfing life. Thank you ❤️
Hey Kale, Thanks for these well-edited step by step breakdown, they really help. The visual and your words come together really well, you're a great teacher.
You my son, are going to be the one who gets me from standing to turning and popping up far better. Great vids. Cheers
I've been surfing for nearly 30 and I learn so from your videos. Keep em coming.
Just started surfing about a week ago and watching your videos has helped me catch not only my first waves, but my first unbroken ones too! love the videos and the vibe! thanks!

Perfect going surfing for the first time in a couple of years next week cant wait!
Another tip. When paddling into a wave, along with looking down the line, make sure you are also looking behind you as to make sure you don't cut someone off.
Kale, your vids are epic!! Any more you can do for beginner-to-intermediate transition are super welcome!! How to not freak out on take off as the board tilts down/goes up the wave face from behind and improve pop-up from a 3 step (frog leg) to a slide or jump up are a few things I'd love to work on... Grateful for your tips and positive vibes!
I have always rollerbladed and I think it helped me with surfing even more than skateboarding...the sharps turns, the fact that you will fall just standing there if you don't have good balance and the understanding of how different surfaces relates to different surfing conditions...it relates so much
Blessed for you and your videos kale!! Thank you 🙏
Your videos are not only extremely helpful but also very fun to watch 🙏🏽🙏🏽 thank you
Just bought my first board 🤙🏻 can’t wait to get out there
Fantastic info. As a windsurfer i'm trying to get (better) into wave sailing. I believe your video will help me a lot as well! Especially the footwork, vision and low hips help me understand now why it is probably a lot better to keep my boom at a lower position in wave sailing unlike other conditions and why it is important that the footstraps are further apart as to bump and jump conditions and do my physical exercises. Thanks a lot for making this video. As a follow up i will need a video in combination with a sail ;)
Great video, can't wait to implement some of this!
Your example of the skateboard has given me so much confidence to progress my surfing as I know I can already do the skating part and just need to transfer the skill to the water. Thanks
Such a helpful video with so much insight and amazing practices I can try. Thank you!!
Love it! Your videos helped get me from Grom to intermediate to teaching other people over the last few years. Some times its amazing to sit on the beach after a session watching and be like 'I did it, I can hit all of this.' Thank you!

Great video! Thank you so much for the step by step process and tips!
Aloha Kales!! Superb video from 1st frame to last, not just because of the excellent production, but because of the thought, kinesthetics & body intelligence discussed & displayed. Best tutorial I've ever seen on surfing movement, body preparation & breaking the complex down into the simple. Very high level teaching with a VERY open heart & mind and ZERO arrogance. Your mate Nic Laidlaw is an excellent teacher as well for all of the same reasons. Forwarding the link to friends, see you in the briney when our lock down ends ; - )
Loving your creativity coming through on your latest productions mate. You're killing it. Keep it up .

It’s official! You guys are the best surf coach I’ve never had. I just wanna say, thank you so much for your tutorial vids. Since I’ve had the chance to watch your channel my surfing has improved immensely. Surfing has been the catalyst of my lifestyle, my drug my place of religion. I’m pretty much at the beach every weekend. Although I still consider myself a kook 😁. I have most fun out in the water than in the pub. Thank you guys and may the water god smile upon you 24/7 🤙🤙🤙

Excellent tutorial Kale! Thanks man
Excellent video! Competed in my childhood and your details are still helpful!
Just about to start surfing. So stoked
Great advice, I especially liked you informing beginners that it’s actually easier to stand up on an unbroken wave, but a broken wave takes less skill. I’ve seen many beginners give up because they think that if they can’t stand up on a little white water wave, then how are they going to cope with a 3 footer 🌊. 👍
Really clear and nice touch of explaining how the waves are formed! So much thanks! Would you make videos talking more about how to read waves for new beginners?
Perfect content!
