    Having even bass response is much better then just pure horse power, that's why I'd pick 2 smaller subs over one big sub any day of the week.

    I’ve got the Dayton audio sealed 15’s in my living room. 4 of them. They sound great but in my theater I bought 4 of the 18’s Dayton audio 18’s and did diy boxes and man SOOOO much better. I’ve got 2 placed below the front screen and 2 placed behind the rear seats in the corners. Basically 1 in each corner of the room about 1ft away from both walls. You never want to butt the subs up against the walls. Audioholics has some good videos on how to get good seat to seat consistency I’m telling you if you do that and do the bass shakers you will fall in love! The Marty sub boxes are awesome!

    I think testing the sealed is a great idea, if it works out, go for the ultimate - 4 x SI 24"s - 2 upfront 2 x at the rear I've seen your dad's diy dual 18 sub and it turned out great. Post up on the DIY forum and get Ltd02 or bassthathz to model up some boxes that perfectly meet your space requirements. Add a couple of clone amps or Speakerpower amps, I'd be surprised if you didn't end up with way beyond reference level bass down to 5hz in your small room

    What's up Jonathan? Have a question. When you put up your fabric did you notice that you got better black levels? Or do you think it just makes your screen pop more because your room has no reflective surfaces. My room is so small that the light is bouncing back to my screen and crushing my black levels. I hope your doing well with your subwoofer search. I cant wait for the update.

    Have you considered utilizing REW before you spend thousands of dollars on a sub? Seems getting some measurements in that room is important. That way you know whether it's worth putting subs behind the screen. And, you may get away with having just one up front or one in the rear.

    ILoveCookies X REW is so simple to play around with. It the boggles the mind how some people can spend sooo much cash and yet believe that all they need is their flawed ears/senses to evaluate speakers. After my brother got hearing tests done he still denies that he can’t hear anything above 12 kHz and insists he has good hearing - and he’s in his mid twenties only. Denial is a bitch. If it were me, I’d demolish that room and rebuild it, (seriously, while maybe keeping the subs) or sell the house entirely and buy one that has better sized dimensions that’s actually fit for a home theatre.

    ILoveCookies X that’s stupid with the amount of money being spent and the reasoning for switching. It could be all placement issue related. Know your room first seems to make sense.

    Zachary Faley I don’t know if a bass array arrangement was even the best utilization / placement of his subs soundwise. While we’ve got a lot theory behind how multiple subs could be placed most effectively in a small room, the only way to find out for sure without wasting hours or even days of subjective listening tests is through measurements. I look at REW as not the ultimate arbiter of sound quality but as one of a number of supplemental diagnostic tools necessary, besides our own ears in any multichannel audio room design - it’s really not too different to using an SPL meter to check for loudness levels and an excessive noise floor, or bass tone tests to find problem frequencies that can cause audible resonance and vibration in the walls or room objects, or even a laser distance measurement device to precisely plug-in amount of ms delay compensation needed for each speaker channel. Room modes are always going to be an issue in a small room but it’s impossible to visually see the huge cancellations or nulls that may be remedied with subtle phase adjustments or even unintuitive crossover changes (one may need to divide a different FR bass workload for each sub) that could help even out the subs’ overall response. It may be that the room is unsalvageable for the kind of quality slamming bass that your looking for without extensive modification after all - though I doubt that. In the same way I wouldn’t simply eyeball my projector choice and placement (*I calibrate my projector screen in a similar way with my NEC and laptop monitor). I wouldn’t trust my ears alone to setup my sub(s) as bass (more-so than the mids and highs) has the most to benefit when it comes to calibration.

    @@burningsti the subs only have a single location that works within the room (at the rear behind the seating). it's really not that much money all things considered. people do far dumber things like buy cars & homes they can't afford, or have bad/expensive habits like gambling, smoking, drinking. nothing wrong with enjoying the fruits of your labor and indulging a little.

    I'm not a sound engineer but I think odd numbers of subs won't really work as well as even. 2 is better than 1. So,, then if you have the space....and want to go nuts...buy 4 JTR Captivators. But prepare for damage to your room. :) Youthman (KZreadr) had a surround speaker come off the wall. Another guy had a hole in the ceiling. So my plan is to purchase the HSU VFT3-MK5 HP, SVS PB-2000 and Rythmik LVX12 at the same time and keep which sounds best. But you're video might have changed that. If your 15" 600 watt? Troy Brown Entertainment one S3611 and S7201 would give more tactile response and be flat in his tiny room to 5 have probably. Guarantee he would notice and miss the lower portion tune of the Rythmik. There is a reason PSA owners are asking Tom for a lower tuned ported sub there was a lot of discussed in which Tom participated in on AVS. I would bet Jonathan to consider a PSA sealed option or JTR in his small room.

    you have an open invite once i get them. i'm (most likely) going to wait until spring to purchase them though. it's not about finances, but a matter of (probably) needing to take the drivers & amps out of the cabinets to safely transport them through my side-door and down my basement steps into the room. doing this last year with the rythmik fv25's was dangerous and stupid because the steps are tiled and with the snow getting tracked in the steps became slippery. the rythmik subs were at least protected in cardboard but the jtr's won't be. it would be much safer and easier to move them when the weather warms up again in a few months. the width of the staircase isn't very wide either, it will be an ordeal moving them so i think disassembling them is the safest bet and i'm not doing that when it's 10 degrees & snowing outside. gives me something to look forward to at any rate.

    Personally I prefer sealed, servo- controlled subs. They probably can’t dig as deep or as loud as you want as individual units, but anything other than that sounds bloated in my ears. Without enough control. Buy whatever you want... BUT Buy 4 of them!!! place them strategically in the room to smooth the bass response Prior to calibration and then calibrate them as One sub (Audyssey does it extremely good if you use all measurements around your MLP - don’t bother with the other seats) If you need more bass output after that ( I seriously doubt it, even with just 4 x dd12+) then stack another four in the same strategic places 😉 If done properly, I am sure it will relief you of your “bass illness” 😊 Just my 2 cents from the doctor ☺️

  • @joneslarvell2075

    @joneslarvell2075

    4 жыл бұрын

    Jonathan Lindhome yes it is good to have options ☺️ I am just advising you to consider to use 4 “of whatever sub you chose-regardless of how many woofers they have”. Once set up and calibrated properly your frequency response and phase coherency will be greatly improved. When that happens you will be able to hear more bass (frequencies that were lost before due to cancellations) and louder bass! The key is not to stack the different units or place them just in the front of the room, but to place them in a way that “attacks and cancels” the most problematic standing waves (room modes) in the sub-100hz region. If you don’t get that right, it doesn’t matter how powerful of a sub you get. The “opposing waves” that will be created will be equally powerful and will cancel part of your bass in your listening position. Again, buy whatever you want... but buy it x4, place it and calibrate it correctly 😊 Just my two cents 😉 Happy hunting of gear and happy listening! 😃
