[24] - velvet installation complete & 1.77 to 2.39 screen transition

- walls, ceiling & 8' on the floor from the screen covered in triple black velvet
- transitioning the screen from 16:9 to cinemascope (2.39:1)
- possible 2nd row of seating
this is the link to the velvet i purchased: www.amazon.com/Black-Triple-V...
i ordered a sample from syfabrics (it's always recommended on the AVSForum) and it was $9/yard versus $4.50 and it felt identical to the amazon fabric. i see no difference between the two.

I really admire your passion and watched every episode uploaded. Guess what?... Almost 8 years ago I had the same passion. I started off in my basement hall almost (25by30ft) which was huge and I spent tons of $$ on AV and screen and then the interior. Today the velvet really reminded me of myself, I did the same. Now I have a 7.4.4 system with 1000 watts of separate powers including Atmos, DtsX.. 300 inch 16:9 screen etc etc and i still think lot can be done seeing where tech is headed 🙂 Today (it's just a matter of time) that I barely visit down stairs.,the Huge investment I made. Anyways...it's an advise to do only what's required and put a stop with some compromises since it's a never ending story when it comes to this field... You will always be busy in reaching the top of the peak and it will always be just a mile away but u will never get there as every thing u ll do will have some down side. I am not discouraging any anthusiast.. it's a great hobby.. though it eats up your 🏦 account ur hard earned money... in the end it's only a movie/content which is just another's business for making money 😉

Faysal Khan i can definitely see where you're coming from. while it's not healthy to aggressivly pursue any one thing, this is just a hobby of mine (one of many) that i've decided to share here on youtube. there is an end in sight with this room, and i feel like i'm nearly there. *edit* - to that end that's why i've invested primarily in the audio and not the video. video tech changes rapidly and i'm not willing to sink fistfuls of cash into tech that will be obsolete in a few years. speakers, subwoofers, room treatments? that's completely different.

Been watching for a while. Fun to see the transformations by an average joe! I think that's what most of us are, hobbyists, who have a passion for A/V without a TON of money. I love what you've done with your space! Keep the content coming buddy!

I used skirting boards wrapped in brushed cotton cloth. I have constant width so I roll down the mask for 1080 or roll up for 720. Framing the picture with black brushed cotton is a Must!

Really like your home theatre videos. I wanted to know where to purchase your black velvet materials. I have 150 inch screen diy and wanted to put velvet around the screen to make it look like a floating projector screen. Can I cover just the edges around the screen or cover the while wall….. my screen covers about 80 percent of my wall. Thx

When I finally transition to doing a projector. I’ll probably end up masking for 2.40:1 content. Don’t want to miss out filling up a wall with 1.90:1 IMAX scenes

railerswim i definitely took that into consideration. as neat as variable aspect ratios are for christopher nolan films & marvel movies i don't think it's worth compromising thousands of other films to get that wow factor. there really is no perfect solution but having had this 16:9 screen for nearly a year now it will be fun if nothing else to try out cinemascope. if i don't like it i can always change it back :)

Great job man. It's great how you show us the steps instead of just hey my final theater is done! Loving it. Gives me so many ideas and reconsidering and tweaking some of mine when I get to a house! With that 2.4 screen are you just gonna zoom or build a prism anamorphic lens? Buy one maybe? It's super expensive tho. However I can see you tackling the diy as it's really not that expensive.

Looks amazing. Awesome job. I will be curious to see your thoughts on your 147” CinemaScope vs 140” 16:9 size and how much better you like it. I’ve debated maybe doing a 138” for imax’s ratio and masking it for 130” screen for 2:39:1 content.

Tom i've had the same reservations ever since creating this 16:9 screen regarding variable aspect ratios, and now these marvel movies and their imax (1.9?) footage. having used 1.77 for the past year it's time for a change. if i don't like it i'll change it back but i think i'm going to be in for a treat with the increased screen width and the vast majority of films having been shot in something > 2.35:1. i'm also looking to upgrade to a projector with lens memory (possibly the epson pro cinema 4050) which will let me more easily toggle between aspect ratios. as is right now i'll have to manually fiddle with the zoom.

twistacatz thanks! having velvet on all of the hard surfaces has basically eliminated the need for acoustic panels. i might still grab a couple from this online company i found and see if i can further improve how things sound but that will be later. the room sounds a lot better now with the velvet than it ever did with drywall & the foam panels i was using.

Did you paint the staples black if so explain your process for doing them. Also did you staple straight into the dry wall ?

  • @aaromon43

    @aaromon43

    4 жыл бұрын

i used a black sharpie pen on the staples prior to loading them into the gun. you can not see the staples unless you look for them, it worked well. and yes, i stapled the velvet directly into the drywall. too many people get hung up on damaging drywall. staples leave very small holes that can easily be filled with mud. one quick light stand & paint and all evidence of me having done this will disappear. i also hung & finished all of the drywall in my house so not a big deal to me. however if you're renting and don't own probably not the best idea to do this.

Hi I was wondering if you had any problems with this seller on amazon. I tried ordering the same thing but it was never shipped after 3 weeks and have not received a refund. They will not reply to me and their phone line is down. I think these sellers are scam artists because it seems to happen to everyone if you read the Google reviews. Yet you seemed to have received your product. Did you have any issues?

  • @aaromon43

yeah i saw someone mention the same elsewhere and that's really a shame. there are other stores to purchase the velvet from but unfortunately the pricing is much higher. i hope you're able to find some for a fair price, it really makes such a huge difference with projection picture quality.

@@aaromon43 thank I really wanted this. I just want to confirm that you indeed received your velvet from them right? Because I can't tell if they are complete frauds or just very incompetent but sometimes deliver. I have reported them to Amazon but am unsure if that will accomplish anything. I see in the link in the description there is another seller alternative called luvfabrics selling the same velvet for $10 more. I may try them next although I see a couple reviews saying the same thing about products never arriving but they seem at least more involved with customer responses.
