As always I love the update. 2.39 was definitely a good call. I went from 1.85 to 2.35 and the difference was night and day as well. I have the 5040 and to me the motorized lens is a must with a CinemaScope screen. With that said I usually watch 2.39 movies 90% of the time.

Epson does make the Pro 6040. Which had all the same features as the 5040. It’s a little more expensive, but comes with a extra lamp and a mount and is ISF Certified . I have not seen any reviews that mention any power problems with this projector.

Just found your channel and watched an old video first, then this one - the walls are a very noticeable difference, reducing light dramatically. Love your room, I’m just setting up my own but will have a 100” diagonal screen as that’s the biggest that will fit (wall to wall - it’s a fairly long but quite narrow room unfortunately, but I still can’t wait to finish it and start watching stuff). I watch a lot of animation so a permanent 2:39 isn't for me. havign the 6050, with the lense shift I'm thinking constant width and then, for scope content, either dealing with the black bars the UB does have really good blacks, or, shifting the image either up or down to one edge, and doing some sort of mask on top or bottom, naybe a drop down from ceiling or somethign floor standing, wont know until i get in the space and start creating. , oh maybe the option could be projector side, make some sort of template for the projector to shoot through, like a light barn door, you'll still get bounced light on the screen, but the projector wont be contributing gray at the edges, huh, never seen anyone try that.

Super Nice set up! Just did My DIY AT screen and had a question.Currently my false wall is made of black spandex. My wife and I love the floating look of the screen. Looks a lot like yours before you added the Velvet. Very modern. She is suggesting that I don't need the velvet because it might ruin the floating modern look. So the question is. And Yes I watched the video... do you think the sleek modern lines of a floating screen are still there even with the Velvet? Also, did you use stick on velvet or did you wrap trim and attach it? Many thanks! And congrats again on a great set up!

But who has a spare $3000 to $9000 dollars to invest? As far as Epson the power supply problem has run its course (or so it seems) . There are also new models to choose from , the pro 4050, pro6040, and even the hc4010. All have lens memory and no problems with power supply.

It sucks when you can't play W/S at the same height as the Scope cos video is done in vertical which is a mess the film studios have made a mess of home cinema. To do W/S at same height as Scope got to reduce the image zoom and make the W/S fit in the middle of the screen like it would be seen in days of 35/70 cinema not this digital 4k cinema. Should have kept the 16:9 to mimic 70mm or 65mm and that means keeping the Scope a little more inwards and the W/S will be little more extra inwards so when showing decent movies Star Trek VI expand the image outwards to full width and little more on the height, just like in THX cinema Empire Leicester Square in 70mm six-track Dolby Stereo SR SS but if like to play projectionist its all usually done in projection and all done in few seconds with aperture plate change, lens change from W/S to 70mm lens to masking change to opening curtains and opening the dowser to let light shine on the film-gate and though lens to up on the screen., all that had to be done in few seconds. home cinema is a mess with how the stuff has been made with projectors And I just can't be asked to do all that, been there done that at UCI and Warner Bros. I like my DLP 4k Laser projector thou I think 4k discs are rubbish with older movies look nothing like what I saw when projecting 35mm, Titanic is rubbish on bluray and will be rubbish on 4k as it has video artifacts that is annoying. The Laserdisc and early DVD looks better I hate that ring effect I see on that rubbish Titanic bluray when the submersibles fade into the blue darkness of the opening, look at it, its bluray rubbish. Also imax is rubbish and LieMax is mega rubbish.

What's up Jonathan? Your room is looking great! That screen is awesome. Why go to the movies bring the movies to you! I been doing a little thinking. If I had your room which I wish I did. I would build a little saufit which would hold a 135 inch 16.9 electric screen. I would also build 2 panels for each side so when the screen comes down you can cover up the 2.35.1 screen just by hanging 2 panels up. Then I would get a projector that can save different aspect ratios. I know the epson does it but like you said they have power supply issues. Not sure if the jvc or sony saves different aspect ratios. Also I would just buy 1 more rythmic sub like you got and stack them in each corner. Then build a riser and get more seating. But that's just my thinking. Obviously you also do a lot of thinking also. Whatever you decide to do i know it's going to be awesome cause your room looks good already. Keep up the great work man!

Bobby Maull i honestly never thought about stacking 2 & 2 and putting seating between them. how did i miss that. i can definitely stack them on their sides (probably 3 or 4 high), but it will be extremely tight if i stack them vertically. something to try later! i love the idea, will keep it in mind. the screen idea is interesting too but i think i'm just going to create some kind of l/r masking for 16:9 so i can keep that inky black border when watching anything shot in that aspect ratio.

Bryan Kessler i used 1x3" common boards from home depot (get the straightest ones you can find). you basically create a rectangle, and then put in some cross bracing and secure it together with "L" and "T" brackets. i then sanded, painted, and sanded the wood so the material wouldn't catch on it while stretching. some people at this point add something like quarter-round to the perimeter of the screen so the spandex isn't actually touching the frame. as long as the wood is not sticking up anywhere you don't need to do this (i didn't, but some do). then you lay out your black spandex, lay the frame on top, make sure you have the same amount of fabric visible on the width portion of the spandex (the length doesn't matter obviously but you only have so much width to play with). you take the border/edge of the spandex and wrap it over the frame and then i stuck a thumbtack in it temporarily to hold it in place. i started in the middle and worked outwards. i would then pull the screen up off the floor and inspect with a flashlight to make sure the weave of the fabric was in line (not over-stretched in some areas). when satisfied, put back on floor, remove thumbtacks and start stapling. when you're all set inspect again and make sure everything is taught (no loose spandex). now lay the white spandex down and repeat what you just did (will be a bit more difficult as you can't see the white spandex through the screen frame while you work as you could the black). that's all there is to it. edit - the spandex material is from spandexworld and is called matte white/black milliskin spandex. it's ~$9/yard. i needed 4 yards of white & black for this size screen. the material can safely stretch about 10%. if you over-stretch you will open the weave and it won't look right, you'll see a "sparkle" effect on the screen when you hit it with your projector light.

I'm not trying to talk you out of the subwoofer upgrade but you know what is going to happen....when you get the JTR subs you will be amazed at the power and the fact that you have new subs but after a few months you will begin to wonder again what if....what if I went with a DIY build ? What if I went with a Seaton sub ? etc...etc... I have watched all of your videos and the reason I went with Rythmik subs for my upgrade was because of you. You were so impressed by those subs that you made me upgrade mine in a round about way... and that is why I am shocked that you want to get rid of them. You have three dual 15" subs and are not satisfied with the power and or headroom !?!?!? Think about that before you pull the trigger. How much more are you expecting ? With the JTR subs you said it yourself they are about equal from 12 hz and up so why......IMO you are reaching for a perception that you might not be able to achieve. As far as getting 3 more Rythmik subs...the return is diminished so much I don't think it is worth it. Now with that being said...it is your theater and your funds....I say.... hey...have fun and do your thing brother. I love watching your updates and they are very helpful. Brian TV your comment hit me pretty hard. you're right, it's almost like i'm looking for my next fix. i have ZERO ill-will towards rythmik or the subs that i have. honestly, they are fucking incredible but i just want to move to the next level. how i do that, i don't know. i feel like i'm on a ledge. do i buy more of what i have, do i sell what i have and move to something else? the only internet direct company that offers something more powerful than than what i have is JTR and it is by no means cheap. i have a good job but seriously it's still expensive (well, this entire hobby is expensive but $ is a means to an ends). even if i go DIY i'm looking at ~$500 in cabinetry, thousands in drivers, thousands in amplifiers & equaliziaton. sometimes i envy my friends that don't know what real bass/ULF is because they'll never chase it. although, when i sit in the room and watch content and reach/exceed the limits of what i have it, that is when i feel like what i said needs to be done. something will give. i'm not against adding more rythmik subs, i just think it reaches a level of crazy if i'm running SIX of their units with 12 drivers, 6 cabinets & 6 amplifiers. they are some of the most powerful consumer subwoofers you can buy (the subs i have), but given my disposition & illness level it makes me wonder if i should have went with a jtr or diy solution from the beginning. there is no love lost though, i'm happy to have made the journey. how would i know what i want today if i had not traveled this path? it's impossible to tell. this entire home theater build is just one long evolution, and it's due for the next.

@@aaromon43 I have passing moments where I think should I have ordered some PSA subs which were my second choice....but then I watch a movie in my theater and I really love my Rythmik subs so calm back down. In this hobby we will never stop upgrading but right now I'm at a point where I'm doing small things like adjusting room curves and trying DEQ on my Denon etc...again...when I'm set to do something I know I will end up doing it so if I were in your shoes I know I would get the JTR subs because it seems you made up your mind already....just really do the research and be sure that is what you really want. Whatever you decide just know that it will be fun to try those things out !!! Reminds me of when I got my first projector and screen....a 100" screen and when I set it up, I thought...holy crap !!! this thing is huge !!! then a few months later I was kicking myself saying man I wish I went bigger...so a few months later I ordered a 120" screen....now a few years later I'm thinking hmmm maybe I can go just a little bigger...lol It never ends.

I went from a 1080p projector to a flat panel display. Yes I gave up the cinema experience. In return I got deeper blacks, wider color gamut, and Dolby Vision HDR. Now that I've seen HDR. I'll never go back. It's literally night and day. Projector life isn't for everyone. It really needs to be used in a dedicated windowless room. Maybe if laser UST projectors come down in price I'll go back. Just as long as they support Dolby Vision.

Jason Swartzbaugh understandable as it's all a matter of trade off's. i could never go back to a fixed display for a variety of reasons, namely being that even the largest offerings are incredibly small, and for the fundamental reason that the aspect ratio is wrong. most "movies" are shot in cinemascope, it's just a fact. even netflix and the like are shooting closer to scope with 2:1 versus 1.77. 16:9 was a compromise between 4:3 & scope and it's crazy to me that people pay huge mark-up's for fixed displays and then watch scope content on them while literally not using ~20% or the screen they just dropped thousands on. if fixed displays were significantly larger AND produced in a wider format i (and others) would consider them again. until that happens they're just living-room material at best. you are right though, projection needs to be viewed in a dedicated light controlled room which many don't have.

Dude you really making me rethink my screen height. Also if you going to get Epson projector you really should look into JVC 540/790 that's going to be around the same price point as new Epson 5050. From what I heard Epson going to retail over 3K. You could get JVC 540/790 which is a better projector & with that room the contrast would be insane.

Damon Benjamin is it really bright enough though? that's what has always stopped me from looking at the JVC projectors. i'm projecting 19' away onto a 0.6 gain screen. it's the only space in the room that works for the size picture i want, for the projector not to shake from the bass, and not to hear the projector fans running.

@@aaromon43 Trust me Epson isn't brighter than JVC. When i had my Epson that's the first thing i notice. Plus when you calibrated the Epson on high lamp mode for HDR you only getting around 900 lumens vs JVC putting out around 1400 lumens. Plus tone mapping play's a major issue in the darkness issues with HDR but the new Panasonic UB840 is the best UHD player out right now because of it's tone mapping with HDR. Better than the OPPO 203. But do your home work first & i remember you saying that your in upper NY try looking at East Porters they have show rooms where you can make the choice with your own eyes.
