2024 Mazda CX-5 2.2D High Review - Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks |

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Mazda CX-5 has been around for about 7-years now, racking up awards and fans across the country for its incredibly polished presentation of a mid-sized family SUV. But with updated rivals from Honda, Toyota, PROTON, and Hyundai, the CX-5 has been facelifted (for a second time) to fend off competition and retain its position as one of the very best in the segment.

I am an owner of the 2018 2.2D AWD model. Whilst I tend to agree with the ride and handling, the claimed fuel consumption of 800 km per tank full is overly enthusiastic. In real usage, at best I only managed to get close to 700 km per tank full. Notwithstanding, I sincerely hope Mazda has sorted out the 2.2D engine issue for the facelift. Many 2018 owners, including myself, had engine issues that needed engine replacement. Regrettably, facts like these are usually not shared by the reviewer, especially when reviewing facelift models.

We've now had our CX-5 for two weeks, and it came up empty at 845km. For the record, the odometer reading was 18km when we got it. As for engine reliability issues, we cannot 'share' such commentary as 1) Such info is rarely shared by the OEM if ever, so unless we rifle through shredded P&C documents in their bins (and open ourselves up to legal issues) we'll never find out, and 2) We focus primarily on aftersales service quality as the warranty will cover major issues therefore the greater value to us is how quickly and reliably one can expect the OEM to respond and rectify the matter. However - BERMAZ has confirmed after we questioned them that the 2.2D has performed as reliably as the rest of the CX-5 engine lineup and has not demonstrated failure or warranty claim rates that are any higher or lower than the 2.0 and 2.5 SkyActiv-G engines. Furthermore, a large portion of BERMAZ's fleet for members of management are CX-5 diesels, be it first or second generation models, and that fleet has also not reported anything out of the ordinary (as to suggest a fundamental issue with the powertrain).

How does the refinement of the CX30 compares to the CX5 facelift?

From this price point, would this still be considered a good buy when other competitors are giving more specs / premium feels?

Not due to a lack of trying, but we have never reviewed a Honda on our channel. Aiman has only test-driven Hondas at showrooms to better understand context for our reviews of other cars.

Yes. Some variants of the CX-5 can be had with a dual-channel dashcam that is neatly integrated into the upper ADAS camera module. No unsightly wires.

Short of wireless AACP, there's nothing here the CX-5 doesn't have.
