I bought a 22 CX-5 Turbo. I came from a 2003 Forester XS I put 250k miles on. I test drove 22 Forester, and RAV4, all variations. Nothing compared to the driving dynamics, power, and refinement of the CX-5 T. The Outback XT is a better comparison because of the Turbo, but still a CVT. I love the infotainment in my CX-5. No issues. I’m shocked anyone would choose a Forester over this. Maybe if they brought back the Turbo in the Forester and improved the driving dynamics I would consider it again, but not until then.

Almost an inch and a half more of ground clearance. A better AWD system especially in snow. Significantly more cargo capacity there are plenty of reasons to get a Forrester over a CX5 completely depends where u live and what ur using ur vehicle for.

The knob is so much easier and safer than a touch screen. The touch screen forces your eyes off the road and more often than not you have to navigate through multiple screens to get something done.

I own a Mazda CX-50 and a Mercedes C300 with a giant touch screen in the middle with all controls on the screen. The Mazda infotainment system is easier to use. Trying to tap on icons and sub icons to find everything while moving in a car means you are trying to put some fingers on the edge of the screen to steady your hand while using your thumb to tap or other unusual compensations for the movement and reach. The dial is under hand and the car moving and reach never have to be considered to enter inputs.

I think the reason the cx-5 sells more than the CX-50 is because it’s a better vehicle…. Built in Japan and with a more sophisticated independent rear suspension…

That brief acceleration delay went away for me once I switched to high octane fuel. Using the infotainment system is absolutely fine. The command dial feels and works great, voice commands for Apple navigation and Apple Music works great. I’m a tech idiot yet I had no issues favouriting radio stations. I can now access them using the favourites button and scroll through them on the steering wheel. All the Mazda settings are pretty much set and forget once you buy the car so needing to access them using the command dial is a non issue.

In my 2011 Mazda 3, turning off traction control was basically secret info that I had to look up heh. You had to hold down the Dynamic Stability Control button, while starting up the car. DSC could be turned on and off via that button while the car was running, different story with the traction control though.

People want the CX-5 not the CX-50. I own two CX-5s. They're great for what they are. I paid under MSRP for my 2022 even though it was just after the pandemic. It's been very reliable and I have 80,000 miles on it now. The only thing to go wrong was a CV axle which are common failure points so there's rebuilt ones for $75 on rockauto. I live on some of the curviest roads in NA so it's much more of a pleasure to drive compared to the competition. They're one of the best value for money mid sized SUVs on the market. If I was in the market I'd drive this and the RAV-4 and whichever I liked better I'd buy with no hesitation.

One note on Mazda Turbos: they require premium fuel to unlock their rated power. On regular, you'll loose 20 - 30 HP. Would also suggest trying before buying as the interior, though well finished, is more like a fighter plane in terms of front legroom (Ryan's legs look pretty tightly packed widthwise).

I’m really torn. For my next car/suv, I’m looking at the Acura RDX, Subaru Outback or Forester and the CX5 or CX50. Part of me wants not to get the Subaru because of the CVT but the list of features are amazing. The Acura RDX suffers from the same thing as the Mazda. The dang infotainment system are both less to be desired. However the driving experience are both great. Only reason I’d go with RDX is the blue ASpec with red leather is beautiful.

My prefer brand of car is; # 1 Subaru and then Mazda. Thanks for this video Ryan. I am thinking about about buying a new car in a couple of year and this one will be my first pick. It would be a Subaru Forester if the Subaru franchise that represents them were I moved would be Subaru of America. I retired and move to Puerto Rico and the local franchise is killing Subaru. They are marking up the cars prices like over %40 which is crazy.

Mazda does not claim to have the lane centering feature. You can criticize the omission, but not the nonexistent feature not working properly.

One of the many reasons I bought a subaru forester over this car was that horrible infotainment system. They market it as "safety" so it's not touchscreen and you use the knob. Come on mazda, you're just trying to save money. Embarassing for a 2020+ year car with no standard touch screen

Did the exact same thing. I bought a forester for the same reason. Also the ADAS was better. Still love the CX-5 but they need to improve in those two areas.

How is it about money when the screens have always had touch while you’re in park? They’re not saving anything. And they enabled touch in CarPlay since 2023 and onwards. Still definitely prefer controlling with the knob.

People who cross shop Subaru Forester and a CX5 aren't really the same. They are totally different cars, CX5 is the most fun and luxurious in the segment.

I love the knob. I know exactly what I'm doing without ever looking at the screen. Once you own it, it becomes intuitive and I'll never go back to reaching forward to touch something on a screen if I can help it.

Lol imagine buying an suv like this thinking it can handle anything other than a gravel road. No hill descent control, or wheel lock..."off-road" it if you want, but I hope you like having service done.

Except it did, and better than any Hyundai at that. Maybe watch before you comment next time.

I have a Black 23 cx5 turbo. It is a fantastic suv. I switched out the stock tires with some Bridgestone Weatherpeaks. It drives great in all road conditions
