The Kona hybrid should probably be compared against corolla cross hyrbrid instead. RAv4 is a segment up.

In other markets this would compete with the Yaris Cross
Thank you Paul for fighting the flies in the first 3 min to make this review for us😊
We have 19 Kia Niro hybrid . It's front wheel drive only . It sounds like the same powertrain . It does not have an EV option . But the battery never runs down . It's recharging on a regular basis . I live in Canada , there is a battery reset button that I've never needed . It doesn't have a 12 volt lead acid battery , but instead has a small addition to the lithium battery . It's been flawless in 4 and a half years . Great show Paul . It starts immediately even at -30c .
Great video yet again. Could you please review the 2024 Hyundai Sonata please, some of us don't like SUVs. It is very rare to see a sedan review these days.

I second this! This new design style definitely sure the Sonata better than the Kona.
Took a line hybrid for a 1 hour drive yesterday The beeping is horrendous Seats are comfortable Could do with more power I like the auto drive forward and reverse if you can’t get into your car But it was the fuel economy at 5.9 per 100 that worries me. My 14 year old Prius still does 4.5 per 100 If a hybrid ain’t saving $$$ on fuel use and is gutless I’m in two thoughts on spending $55k for the top spec Kona that I want including black alloys
Would be great to have a hybrid efficiency comparison between Jolion, Kona and Corolla Cross
Corolla Cross hybrid claims around 4.5 L/100km, but was tested by Paul at 6.1 L/100km, IIRC. Yet here he says Toyota hits its claims in testing.

And driving a hybrid around a test track is probably the worst possible scenario for a hybrid. Other publications have gotten below 3.9 l/100km around town. (See the Carsguide Kona Hybrid vs Jolion comparison - Kona 3.6 l/100km, Jolion 5.2 l/100km)
Hey Paul, great review as always. Do you know if this safety features turning on every time you start a car, an Ancap requirement for a 5 star or not? Cheers.
Hey Paul, I love your review and try to watch everything. Can you do the new Peugeot 408 next?😃
At 17:26 minutes the left rear tyre loss contact due to emergency brake test - have never seen this before! Can Hyundai Australia please provide an update? This cannot be safe!
Everyone lost their minds at the Tank 300 rear tyres leaving the ground during an emergency stop, but I bet no one will make a fuss about this car doing it. Hmm.

My thoughts exactly
My new Kona N-Line Hybrid Premium is nearly 3 weeks old, has done 976km, and the fuel consumption to date (as per the display) is 19.4 litres per 100km or 5.154km per litre.
Granted the car looks cool and probably performs spectacularly but those head and tail lights have been strategically placed in the positions where they will be most likely to be damaged in an accident. I see very few cars on the roads that haven't had damage to the corners of the bumpers. I can imagine parking the car and coming back to it only to meet it with broken light because of another driver coming out of a parking space behind or in front of your car. Greedy manufacturers trying to exploit the drivers for replacement parts.
Hi car expert Apparently the Gwm tank 500 hybrid has landed in Australia I know of one in GWM headquarters in Melbourne. Any chance you can do a test drive/ review on that?

Kona N suspension is the same. I’m guessing it wasn’t tuned in Aus. Mine bounces all over the place 🙄 very unsettled
Hey Paul, love every review you do, but, GeeWizz you do a lot of fly waving 😅
why are there flies in aussie?
I just bought the hybrid N Line Premium. I love it. I fuel up every 3 weeks, so much cheaper. I drove other cars before I purchased, Toyota Koba was terrible, Toyota Cross was uncomfortable, the Kia Sportage was going to my second choice, but hybrid variant there was a big wait.
The N-Line hybrid is a almost 45k car not a 40k car which would be for the base hybrid trim only
From 2107 Ioniq Hybrid had the battery reset.
I'd like to ask if it's possible to have an EV with a generator connectid to it that charges the Main motor without needing to stop & charges it when the battery power goes down & stops charging automatically when the power is enough, without having an ICE for the generator to run, & if you get home with a lower battery you can charge it in the garage with the main motor having a clutch that it disengages it from the wheels, so you can charge it in the garage. It can also have a home char- ging capability. If needed. This way there will really never be range anxiety. Is that possible or not? No need for outside char- ging stations right?
Looks like they forgot about the tail light and suddenly realised afterwards. And I don't think it a good place for the tail light. They should put it higher. Very hard to see the lights if you stop behind them.
I want one of these
that battery reset button is a bit of a red flag, a quick google shows that there is a fundamental problem with Hyundai hybrid and electric vehicles. Seems Hyundai/Kia can't help cutting corners on the quality and engineering of their products. How does the dct perform while parking?
Just don’t like the rear turn indicators being positioned so low for few Hyundai cars , sometimes for cars at the back in a slow moving traffic it’s not easily visible.

I'm looking seriously at getting the kona Hybrid. This colour? It's way out there, 😅 but I'll be looking at a toned down green or red😁 The main complain I hear, especially about the base model is, the engine struggles on the open road. True?
For the looks. I'll go for the 2023 Kona N
Great looking car in N-Line trim..except for the tacky roof spoiler. If it can be removed, then OK.
Suggestion: please include the segment average in "scientific" results? ie the sound and fuel economy. More of a request than a suggestion, isn't it? 😂
What if we put a turbo on the the hybrid?

Would there be any space for that, that's the question
A Tucson hybrid would be a better comparison to a RAV4. Kona is more like Corolla Cross
It would probably look better/cleaner without that ridiculous split rear spoiler.

Got a cheapo Kona petrol.doing 6lt to the hundr the last 11,000ks ..the Hyundai might be good reckon the Toyota hybrid system is better.
DSG, no thanks! You should add a “traffic jam” test to your format, where you operate in stop start traffic mode crawling forward. After all, that is something a lot of us experience on a daily basis and I have found DSGs struggle with. They constantly hunt up and down in the gears. Give me a Toyota eCVT any day.

Kona H is not in same class as RAV Hybrid as size smaller. Don't mind the looks except for the headlight and taillight positioning which is awful. Also, funny shape around the C pillar makes the back half look awkward. Dash is great but rest of interior appears a bit lower level. Would not be running to buy one, sorry.

The side alignment of the head and tail light clusters is hideous, nauseating and borderline criminal. Whoever is responsible for it - jail, straight to jail.
Front and back looks like the top half of a car stacked on the bottom half of a different car, and the side just look too busy. KIA has way better design and the new Kia logo looks soooooo much better than hyundai

is no rav4 hybrid killer
If you can wait for the Rav you're silly if you don't ...that is if you have the extra 5 or 6 thousand to throw in extra for a base Toyota.
The spoiler looks terrible and looks like a budget after thought. Kona is too small to compare to a Rav 4.
Do I like the shape? Yes Would I get the "tennis ball" yellow? My order paperwork says Yes. - I went Premium N-Line though. Edit: As for the speed alert. And this is something that every Australian and American review I've seen has pointed out... yes if you switch it off it defaults back to ON at restart. Choose the Top setting the speed alert only works as part of the adaptive cruise so if you are driving without cruise it becomes less in your face. And this setting doesn't revert to the "full annoyace middle setting"
Those rear wheels leaving the ground is bad design and worthy of more intense testing by you. Just imagine needing to brake hard and slightly swerve to miss an object or person...its curtains as the rear wheels offer zero braking and traction and you would be rotating down the road. Maybe you should be more critical Paul and actually test this design fault...I'll leave it at that. The instant you mentioned the switching off the so called beeping every time you start the vehicle my interest in purchasing any vehicle with this feature diminished to zero and yes I am in the market looking.
Haha did he jxt say a tennis ball 😂😂😂😅
I would put my money into something else I'd love you to review a sedan or even a station wagon yes i am an older aussie not into Suvs or hatches.does any car maker do station wagons anymore mmm🧐🤔😳💥😎
Paul, good report as always. Cannot find where to ask you a technical question. On my 2014 Hyundai ix35 SE, how do I reset my auto doors to lock when starting off? The DRLs are only on when you switch on the parking lights. Are the DRLs actually the parking lights? Is this how it is supposed to be? No explanation in the manual for these questions. I don't want to go to an auto electrician with such trivial questions. Thank you again.....John Murray
@henrylawson430
2 ай бұрын
For resetting auto door locks and dealing with DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) on a 2014 Hyundai ix35 SE, it's best to refer to the vehicle's manual for specific instructions, as the process can vary by model and year. However, here's a general guide you might find helpful: **Resetting Auto Door Locks:** 1. Turn the ignition to the ON position. 2. Press the lock button on the driver's door to set the lock configuration. Some vehicles have an option on the infotainment system to adjust auto lock settings. **Daytime Running Lights (DRLs):** In many vehicles, DRLs come on automatically when the car is turned on and either the parking brake is released or the vehicle is put into gear. The fact that they only come on with the parking lights might not be standard operation for DRLs, as they typically function independently of the parking lights or headlights. If these steps do not apply to your specific vehicle model, or if the DRLs are not functioning as expected, it's advisable to consult the manual or a professional. Manuals often have a section for adjusting vehicle settings, including lights and door locks. If the manual is missing, Hyundai often provides digital versions online. For issues not covered in the manual, it might still be worth consulting a professional, especially if it involves the vehicle's electrical system, which can be complex and may require specialized knowledge to avoid further issues.
my 2.0 WRX got 6.5l/100 lol
The government encourages us to be more eco like het the cost of a eV is so expensive. Wtf
if you drive this like any other normal ICE car, it will hit 5.7 or more. If you drive this responsibly, it will be below 4.5l/100km.
Can we all boycott Hyundai and Kia until they remove the stupid beeping warning every time it thinks you're speeding? Other manufacturers simply have a small visual warning. ANCAP doesn't require an audible warning. It would drive me INSANE!!

N-"line" is the same as how you get a C180 AMG or base polo in the R-line. It's not an in terms of performance. It's just a styling package and going back to say "it's not an N" is pointless. It wasn't trying to be. They all do it.

When the Hyundai-KIA group is happy to accept the upcoming fuel efficiency standards, others who oppose the trend are losers. The facelifted Kona looks fantastic, and it looks more premium than the price tag, which I think is good value. Now, Mazda and Toyota are having real challenges.
