The star buttons in the vehicle can be customised. Allowing you to head straight to the drivers assistants menu. It's not ideal, however it definitely speeds up the deactivation process.

15:48 I don't get why you guys always complain about this. Just set the setting to "speed limit assist". That way it only warns you when you have adaptive cruise control set and not when you're driving with ACC off. Also you don't have to reset this between drives.

I bought my Premium N Line hybrid 6 weeks ago, and I love her so much. I only fuel up now every 2 to 3 weeks, around $35 to $50 depending price on fuel. Yes, the speed alert is a bit annoying, but it only takes 20 seconds to turn off each time, it's not that bad. Yes, it has a couple things that Hyundai need to fix, but other more expensive cars have problems as well. My boss just bought a new $175K Range Rover, having so many problems with it, has been back to dealer 5 times to fix problems. Anyway my Kona is a really lovely car to drive, seats are so comfortable. I did test drove the Toyota Koba Hybrid (too claustrophobic in the cabin) Nissan Qashqai (not that impressed, fuel consumption not very good and a little uncomfortable to drive), Kia Sportage( was border ok, the Hybrid variant will come out soon but will be pricy) and Skoda Kamiq, which the Kamiq was my second choice, but I liked the Kona, it looks funky.

I test drove the 2024 kona hybrid today in Australia (2nd time driving the car) and was able to mute the alarms completely for speed limit, once you have set your sound preference it remained after I'd turned the car on and off. It made it much more pleasant to drive and you still have the flashing signals on the dash as a warning if you go over speed. It still pinged for the driver attention warning on mute but I did not find this distracting as it rarely went off. I'm not sure whether this function can be muted in another section of the settings but this has not stopped me putting in an order.

Funny the EV6 we have seems smarter as if in a parking building with a 10kph limit and it does not see an updated sign outside the carpark it eventually knows it should be higher and changes to the correct speed without a sign on the road. It also only flashes for maybe 5 seconds if over the limit, unlike many Chinese EV that constantly flash even if just 1kph over the speed limit, I am looking at you MG!

Totally agree about the annoying speed alarm! I can’t believe Hyundai would allow such an under-baked system on a production car. It’s a great way to annoy and frustrate your customers and spoils what is otherwise a great car! I’ve actually ordered this exact model and I really hope Hyundai does something about this ridiculous feature via a software update soon. If these safety systems aren’t accurate then they won’t be used so what is the point of them? Toyota’s RAV4 speed sign recognition system works well. But I do like the efficiency Hyundai are achieving with these hybrids so hats off to them for that.

And how does it compare with other cars in the small SUV segment with regards to those specific safety features? It’s hard to do a direct comparison with other cars in the segment when it was tested against a different set of criteria, which makes a total mockery of the star ratings.

Pairing the hybrid power unit with a DCT seems ridiculous to me. Hybrids excel in stop-start urban driving, the very driving environment that DCTs are least suited to! The cynic in me thinks Hyundai are only interested in looking good on paper. DCTs can use less fuel than other transmissions, especially in the way the “official” testing is done. But in the real world I would’ve thought a DCT is NOT the best transmission for a hybrid. I’m really keen to see a comparison of the Kona hybrid with a Toyota Corolla Cross to see which drives better in a stop-start urban environment and which car has the better fuel economy.

@@davidtaylor3 no I haven’t driven a Kona hybrid yet. I’m really keen to hear an engineer’s perspective on the difference between the Toyota and Hyundai hybrid systems. VW, Ford and Hyundai have given dual clutch transmissions a bad name so I’m wary of buying any car with a DCT. And it’s my understanding that DCTs are most problematic in start-stop conditions. Toyota without question are the leaders in hybrid technology, so there’s got to be a good reason why they don’t use a DCT or even a conventional automatic transmission. I think the Kona is a great car (except for the annoying speed alert system) so I’m more than happy if someone reputable can allay my concerns about the Hyundai DCT. Then I’d consider cancelling my Corolla Cross order and buying a Kona; once Hyundai fix that annoying speed alert system.
