    Yeah 5010 , the TB is too heavy and it’s ok at climbing but it’s not great , kinda sluggish I think , it’s good descending though but So is the 5010 !! 🤣🤣

    I think the Nomad is better than both .. here’s why .... the Nomad is definitely better at descending than both the TB and 5010 and at climbing it’s only just a bit worse but the Nomad is still a good trail bike ... so it just comes down to how much effort you’re willing to put in climbing and if you can sacrifice a bit of effort peddling then the nomad is the best choice 👍🏾😋

    I had asked you about the sb115 before I asked about this on the other video. I bought a sb115 that was “new” arrived pretty well used. Did ride like a dream but I couldn’t get over paying new bike prices for a used bike. Grabbed a 5010 on a SWEET deal before the recent increase as I’d had the v3 2019 model.... and wow! This thing is amazing

    Great review, your original 5010 V2 review helped me a lot in deciding to get that bike back in 2016. I just recently retired that bike a couple weeks ago, and picked up the new 5010 V4. This style of bike feels like the sweet spot for me on my local trails. Such an awesome fun bike, this new 5010 feels so much more confidence inspiring and composed on the downhills, and climbs very well on the technical rocks and roots here on the east coast, where I feel like the 27.5 wheel size accelerates with just a little more snap and is quicker to change direction than the 29ers on twisty techy climbs. Great channel and reviews keep it up!

    Thanks for these comments. I have a Gen 1 5010 and love it, but and ride mostly fairly flat stuff but go to the mountains on occasion. Like your comments on the "confidence inspiring" as my current 5010 gets out of its element in the mountains on the tech fast descents and is a bit much to handle. Do you notice the difference in weight at all? My current 5010 comes in a bit over 27 lbs, and the new ones are just over 31 lbs.

  • @mikegay1845

    @mikegay1845

    @@mtbcyclist Yes I did notice the slight weight difference and geometry changes during climbing to be honest. My V2 was around 27lb as well and I'd consider it a phenomenal climber as long as the front of the bike was weighted properly. It's a tradeoff... the V4 is heavier/longer/slacker which is a little more work to climb with, but the body position on the V4 is awesome and front wheel washouts/lifts aren't a worry anymore. The V4 felt so great all-around, and so much more solid when pointed downhill, that I pretty much forget about the differences in climbing. In my opinion both are still excellent climbers in their category of bike.

    I have the 2016 blue 5010C . It is awesome. I have the lowest build I believe though. I'm pretty fast on it in the downhills and the climbs. But I can't help but wonder what a longer travel bike would do for me on the rock garden sections. I never actually wish for more rear travel. The 5010 is great. I think maybe a better front shock would have a big difference. But I look at shock prices and I think about just selling my bike and buying new with a better shock and new everything..... Love Santa Cruz

    How much did he pay you to be an "Extra" - lol I stumbled upon Emilio Estevez filming a movie in my hometown and was fascinated by watching it being made. I noticed a lady standing near me who seemed really into it, and thinking her to be also a local I said, "Now *_that_* would be fun", to which she replied, "What, being an actor?" and I said, "No, just an Extra and to be in a movie just to say 'I was there, See'!" and she looked at me and said, "Yes, I think I can use you." Turned out she was a local agent and already representing an old College buddy who was also there as an Extra. Now I'm in an Emilio Estevez movie - for 3 seconds - lol! - I made $78,000.00/hr! - if you divide the 3 seconds I was on the screen into the $65 they paid me

    I'd say it wholly depends on the terrain you're riding. For 90% of the US, the Rascal is the right bike. I own one, live in Texas and it's perfect for the chunk around here and still crushes the local bike park (spider mountain) To elaborate, the SC mega tower and RM slayer are much bigger bikes. If you live in BC or somewhere along those lines with massive downhill trails then I would consider those. Otherwise, stick with a trail bike like the Rascal

    @@mtbyumyum 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 your reviews are so good because you always say “ it depends on what trails you ride “ THIS IS SO TRUE dude , I think for me personally I want a bike that can handle everything that you throw at it (ie the Nomad) but for some people they just want a trail bike so a Nomad could do trails but a Tallboy would probably be more suited for them, it literally depends where do you actually want to take your mountain bike to ? I’ve ridden my 5010 at a bike park with an uplift and yeah it was good fun but the nomad was more fun because it’s got more travel so you’re more confident so you can have a little bit more fun but then back on the Trail the 5010 balances it out So it’s a mixture of both !! 😂

    Dude , way to put the 5010 through its paces ! I thought the 5010 was more of a uphill / " cross country guys downhill bike" but from the looks of you video it could handle more than you could throw at it :)

    I recently bought the Mojo 4 and it's actually quite plush on the downs with 2.6 tires (the Maxxis Rekon/DHF combo I run probably measure closer to 2.5). Anyway, I quickly rode the Tallboy and 5010 and they just don't have that dw-link lively, super efficient feeling imo. Still good bikes, but just not quite as fun to ride.

    Not a total hater of Santa Cruz, since I owned a Superlight back in the day, however, they just don't track as well as an Ibis or a Yeti. I demo'd the Tallboy and the Ripley back to back and the Ripley by far was more efficient, most noticeable in climbing. Most recently, I demo'd a Hightower, it did pedal well to the trailhead ( wanted to like it - felt great! ), but once it hit the dirt, the tracking fell short. Maybe the Suspension setup is more sensitive? With Ibis for example, it doesn't matter how it's setup they just do everything so well!
