@@brad1246 I placed an order for a new Ripley a couple of months ago and was almost ready to cancel and get the new 429 but by the end of the video I felt good about my decision. The Ripley is a little more "poppy" and the 429's cockpit is a little too big. To each his own. Don't think we'd go wrong with either. And once you get your new bike, you'll love love love it! @@mtbyumyum it was everything you said it was in a nutshell. Biggest difference between my experience and yours is that I am 100lbs heavier than you. So for me I really appreciated how sturdy the bike felt. And then just like you said, the pedaling platform on this bike is insane. I had to fight the urge to scoot forward in the saddle because I just didn’t need to. Kept the weight over the rear axle for good traction yet the front wheel still didn’t wander. What they did with the climbing ability on this bike is incredible. Downhill didn’t seem to be lacking either. Amazing engineering by Pivot. Taking out some other bikes just for good measure but this might be my next bike.

DW-link is always going to win (?). Shorter WB on the 429 vs Spur = 429 more playful (?). Good point about putting lighter tyres and making the 429 lighter if that’s what a rider is after. Great vid. Great review. With regards to the geometry conversation, remember some of us are well over 6' with long legs and 77 or 78 degree (theoretical) seattube angles are needed for us to not feel like we're sitting over the rear axle. To be fair, with Pivot's method of measuring angles and actual frame designs they do feel steeper than other bikes with similar published seat angles... otherwise, this Trail 429 is definitely a contender for most beautiful bike award in addition to all the ride qualities you speak of. thanks!

I keep watching videos on bikes in this travel range/trail bikes. I have a SB150 at the moment but as my riding has progressed a lot I’m looking for something that’s more well rounded. My SB 150 climbs great but I definitely feel it on long days. Almost as if the bike gets heavier on every lap. Watching this video definitely made me believe I won’t sacrifice much by going down in travel

Yeah, the sb150 is a lot of bike and if you're happy with the climbing... you'd loose your mind after climbing on a switchblade or even this T429.... a switchblade might be a good options to replace your sb150 and not go down to low in travel depending on your terrain and speed. Good luck!!

Even on bikes that are longer. I ride my Switchblade in the high (66.5) head angle and it handles very well. It turns in fast and still stable at speed. It’s more stable on the low position, not arguing that but unless you are always over 30mph.. The high position makes the bike so snappy on turn in while still being very stable at the high speeds. If I was ridding park with minutes of 25 mph I would ride it in the low, but for trail ridding the high handles better in my opinion.

You may be amazed how much more "playful" and "poppy" it is compared to all other 120 29'ers. When I demoed it I thought it was so stiff. It climbed as good as you said. I didn’t think it jumped as well as the Tallboy. I loved the tire spec. I am changing my SB130 tires to the Dissector front and rear. To me that was a stand out on the bike. Fast with near minion traction. It was really fast in the corners but I noticed it got nocked of line on the off camber fast drop in lines. It might be that I have gotten used to riding a little bigger bike because I remember my stumpjumper short travel and my Tallboy would do kind of the same thing. Thanks for the review Yumyum. Oh and I had a Tallboy 2021that was 28.8 lbs....just saying lol

I agree the Dissector 2.4 was the stand out (I also ride an sb130 - 2.5/2.4 DHF/DHR). Will definitely run a dissector in the future. I demoed the 429 enduro so the other standout between that and my 130 was the grip2 up front. Hard to describe, but gobs of traction is a good starting point. Other things I noticed were that the small bump compliance and amount of pedal bob on the 429 were both better than the Yeti, though both are quite good. Yeti feels lighter on its feet on both smooth and rough climbs. Both are about equal (and impressive) in tech climbing situations. 429 felt stiffer overall through fast corners and more like a plow bike over rough stuff than the 130 despite the 10mm less travel on both ends. That being said, no comparison between keeping speed through the rough - Yeti dominated that comparison, as it definitely likes to skip over the top of obstacles whereas the pivot soaks them up deeper into its travel and for me led to losing some momentum. The Yeti handles flat corners better with the correct body position. Coming from a 77* ST angle, the Pivot's 75 was noticeable, but only on very steep climbs. Normal trail riding was actually probably a bit more comfortable on the Pivot. I'm 5'11 160lbs and I definitely felt more stretched out on this bike than my Yeti (both size L). Bottomed out both F/R suspension on this bike, but they seemed to do so in unison, whereas the Yeti blows through the rear much quicker than the front with its 20mm extra travel. Overall both are stellar. People will think you're a dentist on either, so just buy the one that comes in whichever color suits your taste more.

Love your videos. Definitely top 3 in MTB reviews. So I am considering the trail 429 or tallboy. I hear the tall boy’s weight feels more confident on downhills. I am a weekend rider and will do the occasional old man (beginner men’s age 47) race. I’m 6’2 175 lbs. if that matters. I’d love to have your insight. Thanks.

The Tallboy feels amazing on the descents, there's no doubt about that but I think the Trail 429 will give you that extra pep you might want racing and a lighter weight bike... if that matters to you. Honestly, the tallboy 4 always fest more like the switchblade to me.... or even the Ripmo. Just doesn't have that get up and go the Ibis Ripley and Trail 429 has. But I totally get why so many people love the tb4... I see them almost every time I ride.

Great video, Jason. Perhaps you will dive into this on Tuesday, but not a word so far on the enduro build. I find it interesting that Pivot thinks about riders that want to split the difference between the T429 and the SB, while Ibis makes you choose between the Ripley and Ripmo. I ride at just over 200 lbs, so a bit of extra stiffness and capability out of the suspension parts is always on my mind. I don’t know if you can answer, but is the T429 Enduro just a SB with a little less travel?

I love your videos and I take your bike advice very seriously. Utah riding is epic! I live closer to the east coast and the riding terrain here is very different. I'd be very curious on how some of these bikes you demoed ride in slippery roots, logs and loose, wet rocks in very tight up and down switchbacks. It feels like a rollercoaster sometimes out here.
