2021 Mazda CX-30 2.5 S Review - Time to Shine

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The new Mazda CX-30 is not exactly a sales hit here in the US. However, after driving it, I think the public should reconsider their thoughts on the new small SUV from Mazda. Compared to the Hyundai Kona, Subaru Crosstrek, Jeep Renegade and Honda HRV, I think the Mazda stands out as the better option in more than a few ways. Watch the review to find out my full thoughts.
Huge thanks to Royal Mazda for loaning me this CX-30! Check out their new and used inventory.

    Props for reviewing a base model, that's very rare, not everyone can get the high end trim, saying that I was set to buy a preferred model but decided to get a premium CX-30 instead, I wasn't liking the blue accented interior and looking at what the premium offered for a little more was worth it, heads up display real leather seats and Bose stereo, plus I negotiated a very good price, love the vehicle great bang for the buck in my opinion.

    Glad to see a review on a base model! I just bought a 2024 CX-30 S AWD model, and loving everything about it! the thing most buyers don't know is that higher trim models will require more maintenance cost, and also costlier future repairs years down the road.

    I agree. The cladding makes it look cheap and is a bit much. I wish they would allow an option to have it body color at no extra charge! On the interior, I wouldn't mind seeing an option for a blue interior (fully color-keyed, no black parts). It would be refreshing to have an interior color choice outside of black, gray, or tan. It's just a coloring and with JIT inventory, I don't see it has being a big cost for the manufacturer. Nice review.

    Recently purchased one of theses 2021 Mazda CX30 S used with less than 12,000 Miles. It was not on the top of my list when I started shopping. When I was out test driving - I was focused on some type of GM products but also tried many others from Chevy, Buick, Nissan, Kia, Toyota and Hyundai. I test drove the other smaller CUV/SUV's and was nicely surprised on the overall quality, ride, handling and interior dimensions of the CX30. Also, the non-turbo 2.5L 4 cylinder worked better than some other competitors turbos. Then it has the 6 speed transmission, not a CVT (not a fan of CVT's). I was shocked that I made the deal and purchased the CX30! Now I am getting between 35 - 37 mpg on the highway for short trips and over 30 combined city and highway around town. That gives me easily over 400 miles on every tank of regular gas! This vehicle checked many of the "boxes" and stood out as compared to the competition - do not hesitate to test drive and get one for yourself.

I'm one of those people who doesn't want all those extra features and instead just need a good reliable car that is nice to drive. Doesn't have to be fancy and filled with extras I'm just going to turn off anyway. I have a base CX-30 on order and I'm really looking forward to it!

    I loved the Mazda 3, but I needed to be able to get the family on holiday with me, so I got the CX-30 for its bigger trunk and taller windows. In Europe taxes on gas and big engines are huge, thus I chose the 2 liters Skyactiv G (+Mild-hybrid). Thankfully I could buy the manual drive to still have fun with it.

    After 6 months of having Mazda CX-30 2.5 select AWD soul red, here are problems that I have: Paint is very weak, it easily flaking and with a small strike it fails deeply. Adaptive cruise control is not working properly and most times it won't stop the car when cars in front slows down suddenly. Windows sometimes don't work properly. Settings resets by itself sometimes and you should adjust some things again. None touch screen is a pain in the neck, you should play a lot with buttons to choose something. No good view for seeing around.

    I agree with the commentary about the lack of a manual transmission. I had one of these as a loaner for a week and it was a real dog on the freeway. The engine was buried under the bureaucratic machinations of the automatic transmission. When accelerating at freeway speeds you have to wait for the kick down for several seconds. Thus, you must plan ahead when taking on a car and changing lanes. It was a real pain in the ass. I will replace my older Mazda 3 with another Mazda 3 MT hatchback (as long as they keep the MT in this car). The gas milage also sucks. I got 26 mpg and I drive like a nun.

    When discussing interior room, especially rear leg and headroom, it would be helpful to know the reviewers height (this reviewer appears to be very tall). One observation about this CX30: it sounds *much* quieter when accelerating than the Crosstrek. Mazda may not offer a manual transmission, but its well-designed 6-speed automatic is hugely better than the CVT used by Subaru to increase fuel economy.

  • @Realistick

    @Realistick

    6:36 good observation, I am tall, but I also did say I was 6 ft 3? Yes, it is quite refined for the class! The crosstrek isn't bad either if you don't mind the Subaru growl.

    Just an observation, as to your complaint for the plastic cladding around the front and fender edges .., if you do some searching most of the base model's of suv cross overs such as kia,Hyundai and so on have some type of body cladding. So its not just a mazda thing...

  • @Realistick

    @Realistick

    2 жыл бұрын

    I'm well aware of that, but they do not have as much of it, not even the Crosstrek does, and it's how they pull it off too. The Crosstrek is more chiseled looking and it helps the rugged look. Looks are subjective so feel free to disagree, but this amount of cladding does not fit the CX30 well.

    Personally, I'd go with a manual crosstrek premium because it is cheap, rugged, and has great resale. If I was comparing a limited crosstrek to a CX30, I'd go CX30. The mazda is more refined, comfortable, and the interior is at a different level! However, as usual, it depends what your priorities are.

    Styling is subjective, I kind of leave that up to the viewers, I wasn't a big fan but I loved how it drove and my video certainly reflects that!

    Hey, they're actually really honest for a retail/sales store. They even tell me beforehand some things they hate about each car I review. Usually they are small things or issues that they've had customers run into but still, they deserve some credit for that. Sometimes the people that run dealerships are regular car people, sometimes 😂.

    The cladding is what ruins this vehicle should have made it the same as CX5, everything else seems good

    Michael Keith It is a bit much but will be much appreciated for people in snow/ice climates that have wheel wells rust constantly and trap salt, sand and grit.
