2020 Mazda CX-5 Review - Premium Fun for 30 Grand

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The new Mazda CX-5 is not as premium as the Mazda3, nor is it as practical as the Rav4, CR-V, and Forester, but it is more engaging. This is what you would expect from a Mazda, but does the CX-5 have more up its sleeve? Watch and find out!
Thank you Royal Mazda Volvo for loaning me a CX-5 for this review!

I'm picking up a GT with the premium package at the end of the week. So I've been watching reviews all week just to drool over. Yours was by far the most informative and comprehensive. Thanks for the hard work!

This video helped me decide even more favorably towards the Mazda CX-30 instead. It has a way better modern look and can still seat 5. Most likely you won’t have 5 tall people in your vehicle always. The CX-5 would have to have the similar CX-30 look and gadgets for me to consider one. Probably coming in a later year model.

CX-30 is ugly, that huge plastic trim everywhere makes it look cheap.

Overall good review. I bought a new 2019 CX-5 Grand Touring with the premium package last December in machine gray. Came close to buying a Hyundai Tucson Ultimate, but glad I opted for the Mazda. Been very happy with it so far, as it just feels more high quality over the Hyundai. I'll disagree slightly with you about the interior being somewhat dated, but that's subjective. I do agree however with your view of the infotainment system, which I definitely think is the weak spot in this vehicle. Needs an update ASAP. Again, good review.

I will say this for the infotainment system, if you have black interior the home screen looks like the rest of the dashboard with its black and chrome. Blends in beautifully.

Any thoughts on the long term reliability of the turbo version of the engine compared to the naturally aspirated? NA has a much longer track record vs the turbo only being around since 2019. Especially for those planning on keeping the car for the duration of its lifespan.

  • @Realistick

Well, I can't really say just yet what it would be. There are some reliable turbo engines but this one hasn't been out for awhile. That's why I just left it at 'there's more stuff that could go wrong and it puts more stress on the engine.' That's kind of basic advice but it's true. I should note that this generation CX-9 uses this turbo engine and its first 3 years of reliability have been stellar!

@@Realistick Yeah good point. I would have gone with the NA engine hands down if weren't for the issues surrounding cylinder deactivation. The turbo doesn't have that issue, but i'm still concerned about its long term reliability. I guess time will tell!

Well, it depends what kind of SUV we are talking. If I could have anything at all, it would be a new Toyota Land Cruiser! If I was buying it, 2020 Subaru Crosstrek 6 spd MT or the CX-5. If we are talking cheap stuff, a 2002 - 2006 Honda CR-V 5 Spd or 2nd Generation Outlander V6.

Yup, he compares some Subaru model to every car in all of the videos at some point. Must be one of those Subaru fan boys, something which just doesn't make sense. Subarus other than the WRX have underpowered shitty CVTs and somehow, typical woke hipster Americans love those emasculated underpowered Subaru models.

@@saurabhkoparkar751 I think if you actually watched my videos, you'd see I'm critical of them the same way that I am all other cars. In fact, Subie fan boys get pissed at me all of the time. I have close connections with a Subaru, vw, and audi dealer so that's why I review a lot of them. They are also great benchmarks in each of their segments. They tend to be well rounded, comfortable, but lacking in the thrills department. I personally would only buy a Manual Crosstrek or Outback XT if I was shopping in their respective segments. I would choose a CX5 over a Forester too, yet, I can't deny that the Forester is the more practical SUV, some will appreciate that more. It's beyond annoying when people get upset about an opinion, a well supported one at that.
