    That 6 speed torque converter aisin/toyota auto is the best thing about this thing, it just responds and delivers power. Hyundai/kia don't tell you that the dual clutch transmissions do NOT live up to off road adventures, at all- they get away with it because 98% of owners don't leave the road any ways. As far as suspension, I find it to be perfect. The stiffness is what allows this car to go to 80k miles before it feels like the suspension is getting weak and due for some damper replacements. The stiffer suspension surprised me when loading up a 230lb motorcycle with a steel bike carrier in the rear hitch, the cx-3 handled it like it wasn't even there, even on railroad crossings, the suspension just took it and it handed the winding high speed canyon with that load with no issues at all, totally impressive.

    @@sm3ool9383 My CX-5 is basically the exact same model as the one shown here. Took it for a drive out to a nearby lake - the winding highway part of the drive was fantastic and it had no problems handling the last stretch down a dirt gravel road with quite a few potholes. It wasn't off-roading to the extent you see here but outside of a firm ride (which basically you compromise on for looks with those 19inch wheels), I had zero issues. IMHO I would say the CX-5 Signature is (still) a class-leading 8/10 on paved roads and a good-enough or capable enough 6.5/10 for light off-roading situations.

After a recent road trip to Monument Valley, the idea of doing some scenic soft roading (such as the Valley of the Gods) looked like fun, but I would still want a compact, decent handling suv for urban dwelling and tight parking spaces.

    This was a fun video to watch. I have a 2020 Signature CX-5 and it will probably never go off pavement. No vehicle is perfect but in my 54 years of buying new vehicles, 17 to be exact, this is my all time favorite . I only use 87 octane after trying a couple tanks of premium. I felt no difference. 310 pounds feet versus 320 is not something I could feel but this amazing amount of torque in a small vehicle is what makes this car an absolute joy to drive. The Edwards video tests show the turbo CX-5 is 2 seconds faster to 60 than a new Rav 4 and 1 second faster than a new CRV. Both Toyota and Honda make fantastic vehicles and I have owned both. I had a 2015 Mazda 3 GT for 5 years. It was flawless and fun to drive and held its value very well. My new CX-5 is even more fun, just hope it will be as reliable. Thanks for a great video.

    I'm in a serious bind between the rav or a cx5.. it's such a tough toss up. Obviously the Mazda has more luxury on even it's base model but the Toyota I feel slightly more confident about as far as longevity. As far as finances.. Toyota are pretty stiff and have a higher interest%. Mazda seems more likely to give incentives and rebates plus a lower %. Tough call. I seriously cannot decide.

  • @healthballnut

    @@T-roccBABY Toyota makes fine vehicles that last but so does Mazda. My son has had his 201O Mazda 3 for 11 years, he plans on keeping it for years to come. It has been flawless, I have done all the oil changes since new and he just spent his first money on maintenance, the car has a 160000 km or 100000 miles, he got his first tuneup, brake job and coolant change. I had my 2015 Mazda 3 for 6 years, it was Flawless. My CX5 is 8 months old, only 8000 miles but has been perfect and just a blast to drive and I love blowing the doors off new Rav4s, ha ha . As far as financing , in Canada Mazda uses Scotiabank and I made my best deal and then got 0 % interest. I have sold cars and know that in most cases 0 % is not really a no cost item but even back in 2010 and 2015 , both my son and I got 0 % interest after negotiating our best deal which is getting up and walking out, if a dealer lets you walk, you have made your best deal, trust me , I was a car salesman and that is the only way you know you got your best price. Remember the sales guy gets 30 % of the dealer’s profit, the conversations with the sales manager are not about giving the customer the lowest price.

    @@healthballnut thanks for the response! Indeed I love being able to walk away. I'm considering waiting until December for even better pricing; whether they'll have a legitimate sale going on or just my own knowledge that they'll want to move 2021 stock, I'd imagine I could get the GT trim for the same price I'm looking at for the GS right now. The one thing I'm not crazy about is how barebones they've kept it. So, the rav already has a built in block heater and I love the little port on the bumper for plugging it in, way cleaner than having a cord hanging through your hood. The xle trim I'm looking at that's neck n neck with the gs trim does have fully power seats, which had a great lumbar support, whereas the cx was manual. I'm going to test it again in a few hours now to see how the manual lumbar holds up, but like I'm saying, if I wait until December that may not even be an issue. The GT trim also has stuff like fog lights and adaptive front lighting which I always thought was neat. I'd like to be able to talk them down on a gt trim but I think given the timing of the year it's not likely they'd match it to the gs trim haha. I'd also like to see them throw in a winter package or at least spare tires on rims.. I heard the stock tires on these are quite useless in snow. But I am definitely overall leaning more towards the Mazda. I like that they have ditched the Ford motors and have their own transmission now. More confident in craftsmanship in my opinion. I probably wouldn't spring for it but do you know if the turbo version of the cx5 would hold up? I've heard factory stock turbos are better for longevity than an aftermarket but I do still think that I'd have better engine life without a turbo all together.

    "Trail mode" isn't a new feature for the CX-5!! They just added an individual button to activate it. Off-road or "trail mode" can be activated in older CX-5s (like the 2019 you complained about last year) by disabling traction control. Mazda even details this hidden feature on their website, just search "WHAT’S THE DIFF? MAZDA CX-5 UNLOCKS ‘SECRET’ OFF-ROAD MODE". Your review of the 2019 CX-5 was very frustrating because it had this feature and same capability but somehow you think the 2020 is completely different when it's exactly the same, except they added a button.

  • @AndresSalazarAutos

    @AndresSalazarAutos

    Short answer: NO. Long answer: Trail mode uses the fact that it has open differentials, you may know that in an open differential power goes to whichever wheel offers the least resistance to spinning, so having for example a wheel in the air will cause it to spin and spin, this system basically uses the ABS to brake individual wheels which then transfers the motion to the opposite wheel (the one with traction).

Oem only allows the screen to work up to 5mph. mazda seats are always super firm its the foam they use it takes like 3 months of daily use to get them to break in and feel great.

    Working in a Mazda dealership now, I'm a bit disappointed of the safety tech. As you tested here the lane keep assist is not good, same rear traffic alert. I think for a brand that wants to be positioned as premium now, I think they have to improve a lot some things yet.

    They should have more premium packages/options. It is easy to raise the price but it doesn't necessarily make sense to offer features some people do not care about. Saying that, I do think offering more options is a reasonable idea if Mazda is serious about entering premium market. I'll likely go for 2017 CX-5 AWD diesele soon. It is available in my market and it comes in competitive price, especially considering what it offers in return.

    those are specific trims made for offroading the cx-5 does not claim to be a offroad car just a suv with AWD. The offroad trims of these models have higher ground clearence etc for more useability offroading along with specific suspensions designed for it. The mazda doesnt have that nor does it claim to have it can you mildly off road with a mazda sure are you gonna take it to the canyon and carve up rocks hell no so when it comes to offroading those cars will be better but even those arent true off roading cars themselves just slightly raised imrpoved suspension cars the mazdas AWD system is all around the best its active sensing vs the others manually adjusted for mud snow etc it reacts faster than a human can to changes asap etc

No difference in functionality and the active awd system is so good at calculating terrain height yaw etc you basicly never have to even use it. its used moreso to thrust your way out of a tricky spot that your stuck in and want to just torque yourself out of the jam.
