2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

With the video camera strapped to another Genesis Coupe just inches off my front bumper, I drop into second and hammer on the throttle mid corner to create a heroic moment.

I agree one hundred percent. Over the past few years Hyundai has been really improving their quality making their company one of the best in the market now a days. Yeah there are some kinks that they have to workout, but none the less they have improving their brand to the extent that it is now in some of the competition with the European luxury brands.

I a 13 2.0t coupè, at for 24k nothing can beat it in terms of value and performance (brand new of course), what i find more impressive is hyundai ability to update the coupe abilities in such a short amount of time(considering that they really dont have any history with sport oriented cars) . Cant wait to see what the 2nd generation coupe has in stored.

To Hyundai Worldwide: This is the best car in your lineup, hands down. I've driven the 2.0T Premium and I almost don't wanna pay the price premium for the 3.8 liter V6. THAT is how good it is. I like its look both inside and out and both of its engines being able to run fine on regular octane is a big cost savings over time.

I have to say I still enjoy my 2013, 3.8 (Grand Touring which means loaded and installed factory wing). It's a very solid car even with 29,000+ miles on it 😀. And garaged it's whole life... I've had over 40 cars (& trucks) in my 50 years of driving (some very nice) but seriously, this is only one of two I believe is🍒. My other was a '79 Z28 manufactured in California which I later found out was a good thing rated top dogs for production quality and longevity.

  • @dhan219

You are right! I think this car is really pushing 335hp. It is 3400-3550 weight. BMW 335is 320hp is 0 to 60 4.8 sec and 13.3 in the mile. A v6 305hp mustang best time was 5.1 Quarter mile 13.7 sec @ 102.0 mph for 25 grand. Give it 30hp and see what the mustang gives you.

Not only I drove subarus and Hyundais, but all kinds of cars, until 3 years ago I was one fo the test engineer for Goodyear. Not only I "drove" the cars but I tested them with equipments (telemetry, gyroscopes, accelerometers, torque sensor, LVDT's , etc). I guarantee you that I know exactly what I'm saying. The tests you see in magazines aren't 1% accurate or complicated as the tests I use to run. I miss those days...We did suspension endurance tests with Subarus and Hyundais some years ago.

Say what you will about this Coupe. I just drove home in my 2013 with the 2.0t. The car is very responsive and has a set of medium sized BALLS. The turbo four cylinder engine will make change your mind about a small engine. The V6 is a beast for sure. I was looking for something better on gas with some style. I got it too 276 hp is good enough for me. Great car folks...

It's still a great looking car, and the best Hyundai on the market yet. GP Gray is one of its best colors. I never thought i'd say this but the turbo-4 is potent enough that i almost don't want to pay the price premium for the V6. A really good thing is both engines can drink 87 octane, which is a generous cost savings over time. This car and the new Azera go a long way to making up for the Sonata's lack of a V6 engine.

Next generation genesis will have a V8 for sure, but cant really complain with those new numbers on the v6 and i4turbo for now, just got to get used to that new front, but seems like everyone is going for that style, hated it on mazda but now its growing on me.

It really depends on your budget and driving style. I feel the brz is more of an adult car because of HID and nav standard. The fr-s/brz handles better but lacks in power. Also the Genesis R-spec costs a bit more but you get brembo brakes and lsd. Whereas lsd is standard in the frs/brz. Best advice is drive both and pick the one you like.

Of course they are in a different class, but if people are going to compare them as equals (and that discussion takes place more than you think) it's only fair to point out the lead by which the G37 has over the Genesis Coupe in terms of quality and performance. I wish the Genesis Coupe was around when I bought my first car, it's a beautiful car (new front end aside).

I do think that when more options and a drop in prices become available for the BRZ/Scion models that they will probably make for some fun tuner/mod cars, but then so will the GC.. Also currently from the Toyota website there is at least a 8 month wait to get a hold of a 86 and that is only projected at this point. Could be less or more time and they wont quote any prices online or over phone for it as of yet where i live.

Now the reason I say it's Erroneous, if you read the Gencoupe forums where people wished to build the 2.0 Turbo engine hyundai made, it will show you how many people ran into problems and blew their engines easier than expected despite Hyundai advertising the car as "made for upgrading" It is claimed to be due to the head design not being able to handle increased boost. hopefully the problem is fixed with the newer 250hp+ versions.

I think that Hyundai has improved a lot in terms of quality in the last years, but it still needs to prove itself. I had a Elantra and although it had a beautiful exterior, it was poorly made. Cheap materials (where you cannot see). I think they are improveing but cannot compare with a subaru yet. Subarus are not nice looing cars but it's a hell of a reliable one. I test drove a 2.0 turbe genesis yesterday. Nice car, plenty of power, nice sound. I'm still thinking about it or a camaro LT.

Similarly, other American car companies such as Ford and Chevrolet were putting out cars that hadn't changed in years. For the most part, American cars received visual updates, but no improvements were made in fuel efficiency and reliability. Japanese cars, in relation, fared exceptionally well in these two categories, and as a result were popular in the U.S. Market. I feel Japanese companies aren't falling behind, rather, American companies are catching up. The Japanese have always been known

Also, have you looked closely at those 3 gauges on the centre stack? I'll fill you in on those as I've seen the car in person at an auto show. They are "Fuel Economy", "Torque" or "Boost PSI", and "Oil Temperature". Fuel economy gauge, yes, makes sense because you want to see how much fuel you're saving in a sports car (LOL). Torque doesn't make sense, but boost/psi does. Oil temps are good to view, but why put on the centre stack out of the driver's line of sight?

yes. they are both derived from the same Mitsubishi engine. (actually hyundai borrowed Mitsu's design, and that block has been around for the past 20 years.) but it's not 100% the same. and unfortunately the changes made to it by hyundai are erroneous from a tuning perspective. its a fine car if you leave it stock.

As for the 86 it better be far better than the rushed underpowered versions in the Scion and Subaru models. While the handling of the BRZ (i test drove before my GC 2013 purchase) was lack luster in pulling thru gears and over all excitement when i smash the peddle down and want to throw out the tail end. Honestly i cant even consider comparing the two cars they are very different other than being rear wheel drive cars..

There is an average of a 10k difference in price between the two. But my point is that the Genesis isn't equal to the quality standards of the Infiniti, despite what some people might like to tout. Performance wise, in a straight line at any rate, the gap is closer. But like I said, the next-gen G should be interesting based on the partnership with Mercedes...
