Hyundai in the past decade has really turned itself around as a brand. One minute it was a car company that nobody took seriously whatsoever, to now winning best driver car of the year awards with the new Veloster N. However one of the biggest shifts in the companies history was when they built what many say is the spiritual successor to the Hyundai Tiburon - except this is how it should have been all along. Rear wheel drive, turbocharged 4 cylinder, and affordable. This is the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0 from 2013 and is the second generation of the Genesis Coupe. Knowing what the first generation drives and feels like, I was curious to see the changes they made a few years later other than just a facelift. This one in particular is loud, makes a ton of noise, and pops all day long. So how is the Genesis Coupe as a sports car? Let's talk about it. Thanks for watching and new uploads every Tuesday,Thursday, and Saturday!

    I own a 2.0t Genesis, bought it new in 2012 ( BK2 model) when I was fresh out of college. I think they are great cars and pretty underrated. For under $27,000 I didn't feel there was any new car that even came close. I made 408whp/330wtq on 91 w/ a GTX3076 before my LS swap . That was with a stock clutch, stock bottom end and just basic mods. I make quite a bit more money now than when I was fresh out of college and own 5 vehicles, but I can't bring myself to sell my GC. I just use as a fun DD and tinker car now, but I always get compliments on it. This winter I'm half way through completing a 6.0 LS swap with an LSA supercharger, but will have it done by spring. It always bothers me that I never really see a good example of the car being reviewed. Not to be a hater but the KDM scene tends to be more about looks than speed. Most of the GC's around here are slammed on camber with little to no performance mods. This one here doesn't sound great (imo) and I can't stand that crackle pop tune. Nevertheless, it was nice to see it being reviewed years after they went out of production. I think these are good cars for kids in high school trying to get something with good potential without having to pay a ton of money. You can pick up a low mileage BK2 for $10k, put $3k in mods and have a car making 400hp. I wish there was something like this when I was in highschool.

  • @johnsullivan937

    @johnsullivan937

    Good fucking lord lol 400hp on the stock clutch, how long did that poor thing last? The previous owner before I bought my 2.0 burned through the stock clutch just from a 20lb boost tune with stock turbo. Lucky for me he installed a heavy duty aftermarket one right before selling me the car

    I love my bk2 3.8 had it for 2 years now. Even after a cheap exhaust upgrade it sounds incredible. Functional hood vents are a must for this car tho, if you're pushing it in any capacity, not even to mention track, it NEEDS cooling upgrades. Power steering, coolant, and oil all run VERY hot on this car. There's some great aftermarket for those issues thankfully and plenty of room in the engine and on the grille to make those happen. This 2.0 even looks sweet. Hope they have good alternatives for 3.8 tune wise soon

I think Hyundai hit this car out of the park and I’m sad to see they discontinued them. Maybe we will see another Hyundai coupe come out in the future that will bring the genesis back to its former glory. I’ll keep mine until it falls apart. Have had no issues though for the past 4 years I’ve owned it.

    @Ahmad Morrow I'm a young guy too so I know where you're coming from. When you pay off your car you could try to use it as a trade in but you'll probably need a big down payment. The 3.8 is fun to drive and it looks good. Keep up the good work man! If you want it bad enough, you'll find a way to get it! You got this 👍🏻

    I have a BK1 2.0T for 10yrs now and I still love it. I might upgrade the turbo one day but stock engine it’s pretty good and fast enough for me. I’m not a fan of the BK2 front end. I prefer the Gen one. I do wish though that the Gen 1 had the twin scroll turbo.

    Really wish they put the 4.6 and later the 5.0 in it. It would have (probably) been the most affordable V8 rear wheel drive coupe off the showroom floor, and that isn't a bad place to be. I think it would have changed the game.

    KDM is pretty cool since it’s just Hyundai and Kia which are the same brand and all the cars share engines makes everything fare I mean you can get a Kia Optima with this engine and the early models (2011/2015) make more power about 275 the newer ones make 245 with that engine

    In Europe, especially Germany, Hyundai is really hyped and popular, because of their i30 N hatchback, there also is a fastback version. Really good car for the price, but I believe you didn't get it in the States. I don't think we got the newest Veloster though.

    Its an affordable project car for the typical Joe. I don't own a Hyundai but am currently looking into them as of now. So many other Car brands are abandoning sports cars and only focusing on crossovers/SUV's at the moment. Hyundai brings that 1990's car scene back and I am loving it.

    I don't know if the genesis is the same as well but I know Hyundai tunes the ECU so its like super safe. Like if you turn the traction control off it literally cuts out immediately as if it was still on. That one thing that I hated as the car seemed to not even get out of its own way in certain instances

    I personally own a 2.0 BK1 and I don't know if its just me but it sounds 10x better than this and it has very little done to it. To me also the bk2 front end doesn't complement the body lines and along with the fake hood vents, they can have it. In no way do I want to be a "hater" because the KDM vehicles are not often liked and I simply just own the other body style. I do think when it comes to the Genesis' people have their preference with the front ends, I just think the BK1 that was reviewed was not one that should've been compared to this. Overall I love seeing the positiveness towards these cars in the car scene in the past couple of years because I think they might have been slept on a little bit. Great Video!

    5:26 there was a podcast I listened to one day called the pizza party podcast. You got 4 regulars, Pan Pizza, Izzy, Nolan and Jim. They had a guest on that episode. (This podcast bisnt related to automotive it's related to animation on television or streaming services) but anyways the guys name was Mike Mozart who's this huge guy that works for Disney and been with them since the stone ages. And he was basically the only one talking, any time anyone else wanted to say a thought, he would cut them off with his "wiseness" and "Experience" in the industry. Literally the next podcast they were bashing him for barely letting them speak.

    Their low resale value makes them a good entry level tuner and if it has options the seats are nicer and you get brembos. Not the fastest car but it can be fun and the V6 won’t make a whole lot more than stock unless you boost it but the V6 can’t handle much boost.
