try refreshing and watching in lower resolution - if you're still getting an error, let us know at what time during the video so we can check it out.

What I like about this is they are not just doing ray tracing to render the graphics and control everything like a string puppet. They are actually letting the scene play out itself using physics simulation such as fluid dynamics simulation. This creates those realistic tsunami we see. IMO, its more efficient than ever, you just put the toys in and the computer do the rest.

If you become a lead 3D designer or VFX artist you can actually be paid between 80,000 to 120,000 a year. But for people just starting out in their first few years of the industry, the pay is usually between 30,200-45,000 depending on the studio and hours you work.

@jonnywow Considering that you worked at Scanline for this movie, did Imageworks transfer the Arks to [hy*drau"lx] and Scanline for shots that were assigned highly to either company?

No it's not exaggerated. Google for example has petabytes of data flow through their servers ever day. And has many, many petabytes worth of server space. The charlton heston movies water effects weren't made using computers. Just basic macro filming and film compositing tricks. 2012 used computers to actually simulate the ocean with billions if not trillions of particles run through physics calculations to determine their movement.

1.2 PETABYTES? wtf? you need like 1200 1TB hard-drives. What ever happened to different plates and combining shots for the same result at a fraction of the price?

I know exactly how the effects for the Ten Commandments were made. I was being sarcastic. Why am I supposed to be impressed by these figures? Does it make the movie better? No. Others did it 50 years ago without any computers and much better giving it the half century time-span between the two. That was my point.

it sounds far-fetched. i think the real figures are greatly exaggerated. you only hear petabytes in sci-fi....and nasa servers. Remember The Ten Commandments from 1956 with Charlton Heston? It had a similar scene when Moses splits the Red Sea. That was breathtaking; this is spectacular at best. Search for the thing on youtube. You'll see what I'm talking about. And I'm quite positive that they didnt have 1.2 petabytes back then :)
