Modeling was done in ILM's Zeno software. Thanks!
Company cofouned by Star Wars' creator does visual effects for Star Trek, amazing.
Loved this scene, fantastic visual and sound work!
In that last scene ILM has added an R2D2 flying through! Google it if you want to see it
Didn't know ILM did the visual effects for Star Trek. Pretty cool!
We tend not to do the actual title sequences though from time to time we collaborate the title designers to provide key elements and assets.
We use our own software developed in-house and we train our artists to use it.
ILM has worked on many of the Star Trek films.
We use our own in-house system. Thanks!
Mostly our Inferno-based Saber system.
Indeed we are.
Awesome! I'm looking forward to seeing the final result. I watched the 10 mins or so preview some weeks ago and was totally impressed. The effects were spectacular but I also loved the coloring work. :)
Pretty amazing stuff, didn't know ILM did the effects on ST, but it does explain why they were so good, looking forward to seeing what they come up with in ST2.
Andrew Kramer did the Star Trek intro sequence
The DM sequence (not sure if I got it right) at 2:39 is absolutely amazing... I have exactly the same reaction as the actors when they drop out of warp, and so did everyone else that was in the same theater...
I saw this film in the theater when it first came out and it was just plain awesome also Into Darkness was neat this film in my opinion had awesome special effects and the phaser effect looked neat.
What the guy is saying about making the ship more alive is extremely true. Because the Enterprise moves, she lives. Her involvement makes her less of a static character and much more involved in the story. In this way, her importance is easily realized and connected to by the audience
What do you use to create those gorgeous lens flares? Amazing.
Could you make a Behind the Scenes Video of Into Darkness?
I'm wondering how many animators worked at this project as basically there's only 1 alien creature to be keyframe animated (red alien in the snow), and the main work belongs to other departments
ILM also did effects for Star Trek: DS9 too? No wonder why those battle scenes were so epic haha!
amazing
CGI has gotten great the past ten years, but even to this day, nothing is more believable than using physical scale models.
Nope. We have our own in-house software for that.
I've heard most of the matchmoving tasks just get shipped overseas. Is that not true of ILM? Also, if you use your own in-house system, how does anybody learn it? Is there some similar software out there you recommend? I use Syntheyes right now, and I love it!
how do you make it look so lifelike ?, are there special programs you use ?, ive heard from my media teacher, who knows employees at Bad Robot, that you have your own custom programs to make such realistic scenes ?. i find CG like this amazing, would love to do it one day.
awesome...
Does Industrial Light and Magic had any relation or team up with Pixar Animation Studios???????
Do y'all use Rayfire to simulate collisions and other physics?
Are you guys also working on the next part, Star Trek - Into the Darkness?
what are the key ingredients in making a photorealistic render?
Just wondering, do ILM do the title animation sequences and credits for movies too? Like Avengers and this.
how about a HD version?
do videogame companies sometimes ask for you help model or texture-wise? if i would be creating the recent star trek game for example, id much rather implement some of your work than modeling from scratch. is there anything they can use that you sometimes provide?
Question, have you integrated Houdini in your pipeline?
Erm... I dont know how to put this. But if I could wish for something, and it would be working with you, what should I do to achieve that? To end some high-quality study by some studio, or just to create something by myself, and send u a link, so u could see a talent within me, and that would be all that matters? I really love what you guys doing and i have plenty of free time, which I can use to learn something, so I could work with you later. Can u give me any thoughts? Thanks!
What software do you use to create the Enterprise?
how do you do 3d tracking? what program did you use?
amazing how easily good effects can be ruined by bad directorial choices, choosing to move the ships slowly like Wrath of Khan automatically makes it believable compared to the old Picard era Enterprise that flashed around like a fighter jet.
Creating the impossible
