There are a number of things this movie could have done better. The gimmicky magic effects. The armor which looked very cheaply made. The fact that so many scene blatantly looked like they were filmed on one of those big green screen sets. But one thing they absolutely nailed was the Orcs. Thanos looks very well done in Avengers Infnity War/Endgame, and this film came out two years earlier. I truly think the biggest mistake this movie made, regardless of the reason, was to do it live action. The work done on the Orcs make the practical effects and looks of the live actors look very bad by comparison.
These look so bad, it's unfortunate
Awesome! I'm always plagued with being so financially unstable that my computers are home-built as cheap as I can from yesteryear's great tech. But learning to do this stuff in minimalist mode really challenges me to figure out how to make things work - from my own matte paintings to creating my own FX to go onto the alpha-rendered actors, foreground, midground, and background elements - all animated... it's a great time! I Love It!!! Here's one where I was experimenting with getting my actor soaking wet from fully dry in a single shot - mixed in with other experiments I've been working on: kzread.info/dash/bejne/d6Z2xZRsccSwkqg.html
still looks like a video game. Jurassic Park has the best CGI
My biggest question being, as a beginner, how do they remove parts of their heads and still have the background? Like dont they get removed? How is the roto being done here? Its crazy
We hope Super Mario Bros. And their girlfriends(Peach and Daisy) will appear in the future 'Wreck-It Ralph 3' animated movie.
Nice work Mario!
The best I could ever hope for is for convincing stills of my own models...
Cute lil guys rolling
I love L3. I'd love to have been her friend. Phobie waller bridge was the perfect person for the part. Totally brilliant
Why the masks?
Too bad Snoke was wasted potential he could’ve been one of the best villains in Star Wars and maybe even better than Darth Vader and Sidious seeing Snoke cut in half was just like the Grogar twist
0:20 bro why is that guy on the left walking backwards
Why are the scenes so dark?
you did well.
love and blessings!
maximum nice :)
I always know when CGI/Vfx etc is any good, I don't notice it and treat what I see as real. When is the next ship to the Star Wars galaxy?
ALL of Hollywood needs to look up to Serkis. He performs just on a higher level/performs on higher levels.
The music in this reel is great
Please please please. Make shows that are more then 6 or 8 episodes. Stargate SG1 had 11 seasons about 22 episodes each of amazing content. It allowed the seasons to breath and they re-used sets and had bottle episodes. Picard Season 3 was also amazing. Bottle episodes keep costs down but you can still have a good story and character development. 6 to 8 episodes does not give enough time. Everything feels rushed. I'm probably talking to sand dunes at this point but if you want more people to be satisfied with the content make it longer. No more 15 min episodes. If you do that then make every show animated instead.
Why aren't the Purrgil color purple? In Rebels, when the Purgil were low on energy and fuel because of the mining facility nearby, the Purrgil were grey and lifeless. But when they finally got a taste of that sweet sweet Clouzon-36 compound again, they suddenly tuned back to life and instantly hyper-jumping left and right. But why in Ahsoka, they were able to hyper-jump but still looked grey?
Everyone saying how you don’t need an insane budget needs to remember technology is advancing and so is the expertise of vfx artists, we only improve yes they’ve done an amazing job and so impressive but I kinda expect it to get better
7:06 The power of two again?! 😭
looked fucking shite
I've been hoping Ahsoka can get the full Disney-Gallery treatment, but I'll take what I can get and this is great! I always like getting BTS insight like this. The added details for the purrgil work well, and I didn't really notice them before.
The facial capture is great. The remaining thing that leaves a huge gap in believability is more subtle: It's that you have these supposed 7ft, likely 400 lb orc models whos motion is portrayed by regular 160 lb humans. The movement doesn't look right, it ends up making the orcs seem like they're full of air, not enough weight to their movements. Even if it adds complexity, they likely should have hired bodybuilders, as tall and as heavy as they can find that are still fit and athletic, for the body motion tracking, and separately track the proper actors' facial performance onto them, merging the two
So much wasted skill and brilliance on those stupid space whales. Say what you will about the Acolyte, at least it doesn’t have space whales.
Dave Filoni is the true successor to George Lucas for taking Star Wars forward. Disney should relinquish any and all control to something soooo beloved as Star Wars and just let Dave take things forward, plan things. Btw, Ahsoka was a damn fine, DAMN FINE Star Wars show. Had a great old school Star Wars feel about it. Can't wait for S2. Just wish Ahsoka would have been done before the sequel trilogy as they could have used some story aspects from this series and carried ideas over.
28:45 If that's the case, then what the heck happened to the Kenobi series?!?
Wow. Wow. Wow.
This is what happens when you don't pay your talent at ILM, they leave and you get really bad VE because you elected to not pay them. Kathleen Kennedy should be fired for this alone.
Dave Filoni = George Lucas (in due time).
Why isn’t this on PSVR 2 yet? Galaxy’s Edge is one of the top three games for the platform. A remastered version of this could snag you two of the top three slots.
"You guys have such knowledge in this (Star Wars) type of film" - Dave Filoni
Loved the round table talk. @13:54 on revealing the vfx tricks. I wonder if we'd have fewer vfx quarterbacks belittling our work on every turn if we hadn't revealed the vfx trickery over the years.
Would it kill you to put in a pancake once in a while? I mean come on!
How theres one coment?
I’ve always been interested in how they restore plates behind objects that need to be cleanup-ed. Did they shoot bunch of clean plates ? And if yes - was the motion control used for shots with camera rotation and movement in the frame?
Love that John still uses Modo for 3D work! 😁😁
7:06 Power of one! Power of two! Power of maaany!
2050 2100😅
Damn, forgot how good those wolf beasts were! Amazing work to the creative team
So thoroughly enjoyable!!
Even when u know how its done. Its still amazing. A clear case of "seeing is (not) believing" now. Instead it's: "and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do".
I love star wars
Always amazed by your creations, it's one thing that got me to do adult college courses in graphic design, from there I built my computer, and got a degree in black & white photography, all gave me ideas for films. Thank you all.
I thought the rendition of the "space whales" was actually pretty piss poor. Look at the still of this video, people standing in 20ft of fog, and you can barely see the furthest figure. These things are supposedly MILES long in cloud, yet there is no atmospheric occlusion. Saturation, detail and contrast should decrease, you shouldn't even be able to see the end of them. All their fins with sharp alpha edges? Come on guys, you know the rules. This is shite.
Wow, I had no idea they had used horses. Those dogs/wolfs came across on screen much smaller and shorter than horses to my eyes on screen. I guess the height and shape of their back of the necks really changes that.
I had no idea the Howlers were actually horses. That is so cool.
