2006 Sprinter T1N Pre Sale Inspection, Tampa

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A northern viewer asked us to look at a van in Tampa. It drives really nice, but we don't think this one is worth the asking price, even with just 135,000 miles. It has rust in the expected areas, and also in some unexpected places. It drips diesel fuel and transmission fluid. The sliding door doesn't open and it needs new tires.
We can inspect a van for you too! Just send an email to Bill@FloridaVanMan.com

    Yooo I almost went to buy this van last time in FL but the owner was in cuba. Good to see that it would've been a waste of time. Seemed like a great deal from the sale posting. Wild. Great inspection video!

    Rust at the top of the windshield can be very serious. It throw off the whole layer of paint with the windshield adhesive(and the windshield of course) on my sprinter and it was leaking. So I had to cut out the windshield, get rid of the rust, spray it, and put back in the windshield. I hope it will last long, because I don't want that pain again.

    cool video, it would be great if you provided a rebuttal on the price, maybe not 11k , but what would of been fair market value? AND yes read a comment about these selling for 20k in CA. its true not just CA , all up and down the west coast.

    I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you've seen a factory installed auxiliary heater in a t1n. If so have you seen one work or troubleshot one as to why it doesn't work? Love your videos. A huge help!

  • @FloridaVanMan

    Behind the driver's side headlight? Yes we have seen them but we've never seen them work. From what I understand that runs when the key is on and the bacon button is pressed. It also has its own module in the scanner, "ZUH - Auxiliary Heater", so it could have some codes preventing it from working. It's a diesel powered coolant heater. I've only seen one Florida van with it and it was the black one with oil in the coolant that wouldn't start. Obviously, we didn't even try to get the heater to work since the engine didn't start. -Mike

    Where in florida are you ? Can you do an inspection in Miami area?

  • @FloridaVanMan

    @FloridaVanMan

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes we can. We are between Daytona and Orlando, so Miami is a bit of a haul. A pre-purchase inspection is $150 plus travel. Travel to Miami is $400 but still well worth it, especially knowing what we know about Miami car sales in general. It's a sketchy place for buying used cars and vans and we can help navigate around the pitfalls.

    so cancer...is it different from orange or rust...are u using the terms interchangeably? Great review I learned alot. Thanks

  • @FloridaVanMan

    @FloridaVanMan

    3 жыл бұрын

    To me... Orange is just surface discoloration and the very start of rust, easily stopped before it gets bad. Cancer is always more serious, but not necessarily fatal. Bad rust can be managed, treated, and slowed like cancer. But even if you get it *gone* you always need to watch nervously for its return.

    IF you could find one in that condition in Scotland it wouldn't make much more than 2 - 3500 pounds, $2500 - $4000..... T1N's were discontinued in Europe in 2005, I think? You do occasionally see them in Spain, Greece etc with decent bodies however. living as far North as I do most are like mine, rusted out buckets.

    I know right?!! I got my 2003 for 4,000 euros (about 4600 US dollars) and was 99% rust free here in the Netherlands. The previous owner had put a second coat of paint on it right out of the factory and had the bottom completely sprayed. We only found two spots- one the size of a quarter and one the size of cookie. We have tons of diesels on sale right now because the Dutch government decided to give an extra "fine particle tax" on all diesels, so every year I pay an extra 150 euros for my T1N on top of the already 65 euros per month camper vehicle tax. The cost of a T1N wont kill you here... the taxes will!!

    I don't think it's worth this amount of money. My van had 79,000 miles and was only $,7,000. For 135,000 miles I would think it would be in better condition. That intercooler hose with that gunk on it would concern me. Plus it has an enormous amount of rust on it. I'm with you Bill, $11,000.....I DON'T THINK SO!!! People are trying to get a lot of money on these vans because they know they make a great home and has awesome gas mileage.
