    @@autoexistence8902 You mentioned that you got your trans from a 7.3 diesel and it bolts right up to your SBF 351W, everything I’ve read is contrary to that, can you confirm that is the case? It would be a lot easier to find something to mate up if so.

    @@PsychoG4M3R the sbf is different from the 7.3. There are 4 zf5 cases: small block/300 i6, big block, diesel, and later 5.4/V10. Big block can be made to work behind the diesel by drilling holes out.

    For anyone interested in doing the auto to manual swap it's pretty easy you need transmission, clutch pedal assembly, manual trans harness, and your gonna need drivelines because manual transmissions are shorter than auto trans you dont have to change ecm unless you are going from manual to auto. column conversion is easy just remove the shifter tube assembly from the the column

    You’re definitely gifted with the mechanics skills brother. I bet if you did a video on the manual tranny swap and detail the process it would blow up on popularity. I’ve had my 96’Bronco for 19 years now but have been reluctant on touching it. But cause of you I just bought a 93’Bronco today with a bad tranny for $2k and planning on having fun with it. Thank you for inspiration. The First Bronco has currently 80k miles on it and was a gift from my mother when I graduated Marine Corps boot camp back in 2000 so it became my first child before my real kids. I told them I love them all the same but there is always been a slightly favorite one, I told them “you know who you are” while they were standing next to The 96. Lol 😂

    I have a 1992 bronco I got off a buddy. It was a factory 351/e4od and he did the zf5 swap along with installing the 3g alternator, all good modifications. I put 33x12.5's BFG's on it once I got it and the granny low 1st is nice for this size tire with stock differential gears. I know you mentioned swapping the TTB d44 to a regular straight d44. I know this is a popular upgrade, or at least was. With today's prices for those axles ($500-1500) plus what it costs to do the swap (the one kit I saw was $1600) all to end up with a front axle that uses the same size bearings, same size u-joints, same size and spline shafts, same size ring and pinion and carrier, IE pretty much everything is the same size so they'll be the same strength. I don't really see the cost being justified unless you have a parts truck with that axle already sitting in your backyard and you plan to do a lot of the fab work yourself. To each their own, but I put all new bushings in my d44 TTB when I put a 2.5" lift kit on it (new springs and shocks). I still need to put 4 new balljoints in (2 are bad) and then find an old school shop familiar with TTB to do an actual alignment on it, then I'm just going to run it. It drives great down the road, much smoother than any solid front axle vehicle I've ever ridden in, no complaints here. Just my $0.02

    its easy to do the manual hubs but it's more difficult to do the manual transfer case, the easiest way is to find one at a junkyard and clean it up (or rebuild it if necessary) and swap it with your current case. Remember you will have to cut a hole in the floor for the linkage to poke through and there's also a wiring harness that connects to the t case that will be needed to illuminate the 4X4 dash light and also change the behavior of the transmission while in 4wheel.

    You actually saw the transmission you installed in your Bronco come off of a diesel engine? I’m currently planning on swapping to a manual as well and everything else I’ve seen on the internet indicates that the diesel bolt pattern is not the same as the small block/inline 6 pattern. If it is the same, that would certainly increase the number potential donor trucks.

  • @autoexistence8902

  • @brianadams429
    @brianadams4295 жыл бұрын

    My 94 took a lightning strike, keeps shorting out abs sensors so the e4od isn't happy. I have 90 percent of the parts. Just have to find out what my imbalance on the faceplate is so I can order a flywheel. On another note you said you got your transfer case out of an f250 truck. Only thing I didn't like about that is all the f series trucks have slip yokes for the rear driveshaft. If you track down an actual Broncos case it has a fixed yoke. If I break a rear driveshaft I can remove it, lock front hubs and drive home in front wheel drive. Slip yikes piss fluid out of your transfer case. .

    Nice Truck! I've got a 95' With the 5.8/E4OD combo as well! I'm getting ready to put a ZF5 in mine also, but I'm not sure if i will need a different transmission crossmember and rear drive shaft to acommodate the ZF5. Did you?

  • @autoexistence8902

    @autoexistence8902

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yes you will need a cross member from a manual f150 or manual bronco along with a shorter rear driveshaft. You can just have it shortened, but I found just a few bucks more buy a brand new one for a manual bronco off rock auto. Manual bronco driveshafts are rare finds in the junkyard. You will also need a longer front driveshaft from a manual f150 or bronco, those are pretty easy to find in the junkyard.

  • @autoexistence8902

    @autoexistence8902

    No I didn’t. I just put the gear selector stalk in park. Then I removed the stalk and rod that goes to the transmission. I also removed the wiring harness and eliminated all the wires except for the oxygen sensor, reverse light wire, and 4x4 indication light although cleaning up the harness isn’t necessary. Essentially the truck ecu thinks it’s in park. I’ve had zero issues.

    Not only does the diesel trans not share the small block pattern, but the diesel trans is close ratio vs the wide ratio gas transmissions. They are not interchangeable.

    @@autoexistence8902 Man I wish I found this video sooner! I'm converting from a m5od to zf5 in my 302 swapped explorer sport. I've heard much of the same regarding the bolt pattern. I passed on quite a few zf5's from diesels because I read EVERYWHERE that they wouldn't fit a small block. I particularly wanted the external slave cylinder because that's what has let me down on the m5od. Regardless, good info and nice work!

    Awesome! Having the M5OD makes it a super simple swap for you, literally all you need is the F250 clutch and the ZF5. My ZF5 has the internal slave cylinder fyi. I just got an American made one and haven’t had any issues so far about 25k miles. Good luck on the swap!

    @@autoexistence8902 that's actually what I was thinking. Which slave cylinder did you go with? I picked up a Ramclutches aftermarket unit without the quick release fitting and an all metal housing. I'm still piecing things together so I'm not 💯 percent sure dimensions will work. But also mine is 2wd, and the 2wd zf5 is a few inches shorter than the 2wd m5od so I need a longer driveshaft also

  • @autoexistence8902

    @autoexistence8902

    5 жыл бұрын

    Difficulty is low but time consumption is high. You have to drop the steering column which takes some time to install the pedal assembly. Also the bleeding of the slave and master cylinder can be tricky. Other than that it’s really just bolts right into place. All the bolt holes are already there, and the hole for the clutch master is just covered with a piece of metal that’s glued on so that is easily priced off.

    Yeah I can see how it gets easily confused though. That’s an amazing deal for a zf5! It’s great with the zf5. The best mod by far. I never use first unless I’m crawling or towing a trailer. Being a granny low paired with the low range transfer case first gear really crawls. I saw an improvement in mpg also because the 5th gear ratio is slightly taller than the overdrive in the E4OD. Definitely recommend the swap.
