I was one of the many who felt Don Shula's time had come long before '95. Twenty-two years with no championship was long enough. I always felt he lasted this long because of the undefeated season. I was also one of the many who wanted Jimmy Johnson in that job. I apologize for that now. If I had known Johnson would do what he did, I'd have said, "Screw it! Keep Shula!" Johnson quit and stuck the team with Wannstedt! Johnson won in Dallas because the Minnesota Pigeons gave Dallas a slew of picks for a washed-up Hershel Walker. If Barry Switzer could come out of retirement coaching college and win with that team, I could have coached it and won!

I agree. Like yourself, I thought it was time for Shula to retire. Twenty-two years without any hardware is a long time. I felt that JJ would bring a SB to South Florida. After he all, he won a National Championship at the University of Miami, and he built a dynasty in Dallas due to the Herschel Walker heist. Unfortunately, he could not do the same with the Dolphins. Hindsight is 20/20. It didn't work out the way we (or JJ) hoped. However, at the time, it was - or seemed like - the right idea. Even if Shula had remained our HC, I don't think we would have won a SB. It would have been more of the same - a winning season followed by a loss in the AFC Wild-Card game, or Divisional round. I think so anyway.

Agree but disagree, I Agree it was time for Shula to go, the 1995 team was built for one last shot for Shula to win something, but it did not happen when Johnson became the Head Coach he built a good defense, but he and Marino who skills were diminishing could not agree on the offensive philosophy and could never find an every down running back and it came to a head that day in Jacksonville, in 2000 Wannstedt won for a couple but could not win enough

@@justinhaas6017 I felt after the '88 season. The Dolphins went 6-10, 0-8 in the division, and Shukla was dealing with his wife's illness. At that point I felt it was time. Then when the team didn't make the playoffs a fourth straight season in '89, Marino went into Robbie's office and originally demanded a trade.

I think Berman is Fred Flintstone and a big water buffalo follower. All he needs is Barney Rubble to join him in his show.
