1994-2002 Dodge Ram 2500 Rear Wheel Bearing Replacement. Dana 70/80
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Hey Everyone, Doing the rear wheel bearings in this 1999 Dodge Ram 2500. I thought it would be a harder job than it was. It took me about 2 hours to complete both sides and re seal the differential cover and top it up with fluid. I suggest parking on a hill or jack up either side of the truck to let oil run down and into the hub on each side to be sure you have lots of lube on the bearings before driving. The differential took about 3.5 qts of oil and a tube of friction modifier. I hope this helps. I couldn't find a video on it so i thought i would make one. Josh

Awesome video! Thank you!
Great video thank you 👍🏽👍🏽
Great video, I can almost smell the gear oil. Guess what I'll be doing soon.
Thank you 😊
Not my account. But solid truck dog! Just bought a 24 valve 02 and my wheel bearing blew and snapped the axle shaft so I'm putting a whole new rear in, out of a 00. Has drums so we're gonna fab up custom brackets for the brakes, I already wire wheels most of my frame, gonna wash it and rust prep it, paint it up and oil the fuck out of it and have er lookin just like this one. Deeeadly Please do yourself a favour and order parts off rock auto.. I got bearings, races, seals, HD brake pads front and back in my cart for 100 bucks, getting some shocks too and probably e brake parts and who knows what else. But most of it comes at a reasonable price and you have options. Whether you want economy, standard, performance, or hd parts. A huge selection, different brands etc. Right on though thanks for the vid. Helpful

@@Schneids15 Josh, I personally think its a fabricated hoax. We are heading into a one world government. I bought a few face shields to do my shopping at Walmart etc..I refuse to wear a mask. We have 1.4 million out of work and you know as well as I that if American falls, so will Canada..Bad times lie ahead my friend

Steve i agree to a point for sure. It is a hard one to know for sure? But i agree. I would like to buy my own house. I make a wage that is on the higher side and it is still hard to afford something. There is nothing selling here below 400K. I am hoping that the market will collapse and i can buy something.
Correct me if im wrong. If the wheel seal is functioning correctly, your not mixing oils. Diff fluid stays in axle tube, and the bearing grease stays in the bearings/hub? Great video, appreciate the walk-through.

Hey, so not true the diff lube can flow all the way out to the hub and lubricates it as well. A friend of mine said when he does them he jacks up one side high and lets the oil flow down the tube to the hub and reverse procedure for other side then he knows he has the oil at the bearings.

Would those part numbers be the same for a 3500?
@Schneids15

I can't guarantee they are. Do a NAPA online search and enter your truck and it should come up. A 3500 will have a different axle so i can't see they will be the same. Josh
Why did you take of the diff cover?
@Schneids15

Hey Tyler. Just to simply do a fluid change while i was in there.
Does it really need the limited slip additive?

If you have a limited slip rear end you will need the additive

Haynes repair manual says hub nut should be tightened to 22 ft lb’s then back off 1/4 of a turn where did you get 120-140 ft lb’s??
@Schneids15

My manual states that, then back off. Either way it is just to make sure everything is seated then you give it a little end play.

@@Schneids15 Oh ok I was just worried didn’t want to screw mine up, attempting to do this today along with pinion seal. I’m wondering if specs are different depending on if your using new or old bearings?? It’s such a big difference in torque value, curious how 22 ft lb’s then 120-140 ft lb’s is ok doing either
You do not have any jack stands underneath the rear axle Reliant upon the Jack only the holdup a vehicle is a fallacy
@Schneids15

You are correct. I could not safely get one on my axle with my jack in place. However there is a stack of blocks further ahead on the frame. Yes if the jack came out the suspension would push down a few inches.

Tks do you have any in and out Freeplay on the hub when you get done? Mine is leaking I tore it down but gotta get a socket today. But my hub will slide in and out about 2 or 3 mm
Not to be picky, but you mentioned the star pattern and what was in the video was definitely not that.
@Schneids15

No problem. It is good criticism. I did tighten them in a star pattern but it was edited out. I usually do that initially with the impact, then run around a circle with the impact and hold it for a second or 2 then torque in a circle. The impact usually gets it right about to the 150 torque.
Tsk tsk those are not impact sockets 😂
