Great video! I was replacing my rear calipers, rotors, and pads on my 2500HD when I noticed I had gear oil collecting in the caliper on the driver side. After watching this video I was confident I could replace all the bearings and seals as well. Your video was detailed and thorough. I double checked the torque specs to be sure, and you were right on. Thanks for the help! I had zero issues.

Thank you so much for this video, just got finished with mine on a 2003 Suburban 2500 and everything I found was for the 1500. This was perfect. And including the torque specs, absolute perfection! My bearings and seals are in great shape but the previous owner let it sit, the parking brake locked up and damaged the ABS ring on my 2013 duramax (unlike your '07, there's an encoder ring behind each hub instead of just on the drive shaft). Thanks for posting this, now I feel a bit more confident getting at it this week. With all the rust in my area, I'm sure every part of this is going to be worse :D

Thanks for the good explanations on seals and setting the bearings. I am 1/2 way thru my '14 Express van 2500HD / Duramax 6.6 and the hubs and axles are identical. I needed some more information that was not in the manual. Like others said, cam and video are fine. Can see and understand everything.

Good video, if the metal ring sticks to the spindle instead of using a flat head you can use a chisel to lightly score every inch or so all the way around it. The chisel causes the sheet metal to slightly expand so as you work around the ring it will just pop off. Also putting your races in freezer for a bit will shrink them making it very easy to install in hubs. Worked as a semi mechanic for years and a full floater 14bolt is just a baby semi rear end.

Got to do everything you did plus have to do backing plates and all new brakes. Got a pile of new parts. My E-brake imploded a few years ago because the backing plates disintegrated

Awesome job, brother... After researching youtube and manuals, I did my inner and outer bearings on both sides of my 2004 silverado 2500hd... There was no information anywhere about the outer bearings and everyone had a different spec for tightening the locknut... Both sides failed pretty quick and I thought I tightened the hub too tight... So, I'm ready to do this again and thankfully found your video... I ended up putting the outer race on first, then the bearing and retainer... Now I know the bearing goes first... I use a block of wood also for the seal... Anyway, I have to thank you for this so my job won't fail this time... There's too much confusion out there regarding these full floating hubs.... You cleared it up... This video should get 100000 views... Peace...

Thank you! I'm a serious do it yourselfer - but for reasons unknown to me this really made me nervous. I have the GM manual online and isn't 100% clear what to do. My truck has 290K miles - I bought it used and have no idea the history. Bearings looked great (Made in USA Timken) - but it was starting to leak. I replaced the parking brake shoes and hardware and got a new Napa seal. Saved the $177 on the J tool for the seal and used a block of wood and rubber mallet - went in smooth. Now - how to exactly adjust the parking brake shoes...and to...or not to replace the seal on the other side when it currently isn't leaking???? Truck serves to haul the slide in camper - that's its whole job right now. So...ponder breaking open the other side when it isn't leaking I must. 😀

Well for me it took 2 days and a morning. And then the differential was dripping a little bit, so I used the impact to tighten up the bolts and snapped a bolt and then... 4 hours later... Had to drill out and re-tapped for a larger size bolt. But really your video gave me the confidence to even think I could do it... Thanks!

Nice work, thanks for posting. The caliper bracket mounting bolts use medium thread locker. Be sure clean the old thread locker off before applying new. Stay gold.

you had me watching as I heard you call out tool sizes... I refer to videos to take notes down and set my tools aside. Rather than drag my hole tool box. It would be nice to know exactly what tools are needed when doing a job. Especially since I dont have the specialty tool to remove the center nut. From another video, I gather its a everthough 67037. From you, I know I need a T55 for Caliper slide out pins, 18mm caliper bracket bolts. No work on axel flange bolts... Either way, thanks

Good video. 👍 my rear left seal is leaking. After new seal it's still leaking on the test drive. I did put some gear oil on the seal and where it's sets on the shaft. And no silicone on the 8 bolt lol. Lesson learned. I get to do it again 😄🤣

96 dually rear hub bearings work the same but that little clip holding the outer bearing is a booger. Also needed a real good clip tool to reach in there

I believe I got it at Oreilly Auto Parts. They had it as a tool to rent or buy for $12 or $22 I think.

No need to dry first If you use gaskets. Make sure surfaces are clean. No need for silicone. If you use silicone any gasket style should work.

You can only adjust them with everything on. On the back side there is a hole and you can spin the adjuster for the e-brake with a flat head screwdriver.

Man. I would think it would be pretty much the same. Maybe different size bearings. I can't tell you for sure. I searched for 2012 bearings but only seen them for the front. Which is the same as mine.

Had to do this three times on 6.6 duramax. I think its still leaking right now. Everything was done this way the third time. First time they didn't want to replace the seal and I was told to install not the correct way. Third time went with new seals but forewent the socket. Third time I did as I was supposed. I did add some oil to the surfaces where the seals sealed. To not tear anything. I guess that's the issue.

The 2500 as the same differential like the 3500 you have to change the hubs for the dually ???

What tool kit did you use that had that special socket? Great instructional video! Ive got a leak seal on my Duramax right now, I'll be gathering parts and tools to get started! Thanks.

One seal. It's 2 pieces combined to make one seal. One side is set to the axle and the other side spins with the hub.

Very helpful video. Just a quick question would there be any other reason why it would have a leak? Or is this kinda the most common reason? Changed the brakes on my 15 ram 2500 and the e brake was caked in grease

I need to change one on mine again. I seen a little piece of the brake hub shield where you adjust the E brake, has rubbed the hub seal to where it is leaking again. I knew it would, I already had it back together and I was tired that evening. Lol

Question: I will be doing this for the first time to my 03 duramax tomorrow. What’s the reason why you wedged the front tires ?

Great Video, I just had to ask, Why didn't you replace the Axle Shaft Hub Gasket with a new one, instead of using Silicone sealant over top the old one ?. But just out of Curiosity did you get any leaks, or did the Silicone work?.

If I'm not sure I usually go to Orielys website and type in my vehicle and part. Get the part # then search for it. Amazon sells AcDelco parts for way less

Do you think the leftover seal part (around 00:13:00) is a separate part for the seal to run/scratch on? So that the seal won’t damage the big axle (or whatever it’s called), aka, grind a grove on it. Thanks!

No. As you see in the first seal I take off. They come apart over time. The seal is 2 part. It spins like a bearing. And the one that was left on was smashed way far in from someone putting a new one on without removing the old one. That's why there was so much play in that hub.

Now I'm confused. It's the exact opposite of a pinion seal I think. A pinion seal is secured on the outside when a hub seal is secured on the inside. So when the wheel spins. It's like a hulahoop on the axle shaft. Not exactly but kinda like that

I believe it's a 2 3/4 - 9 pin. You can rent or buy at Oreillys for $12 or $22. I can't remember, sorry. But they know which one.

So, there are TWO grease seals on each hub?? It looked like you pulled one off, then pulled another one in the same position as the other. Then the left over metal from a seal that should have been removed. I thought there was just one seal per hub.

Hoping hub isn't damaged or that chaft

Yes I believe so. The parts are in the Description and has the years it works with.

PLEASE READ! If you are doing this job on any truck thats rusty.. MAKE SURE the vent on the top of the axle tube is clear... If you have rusted up hole inside it will build up pressure and keep blowing seals out. Its more common than you think.

If I remember correctly I had a time on one side. Slowly turning it and holding it center. It's tough. I can't remember if there is a mark or not.

If one seal is good, two seals are gooder:)

I can't remember, but I'm pretty sure they are different.

outside bearing race should not bottom out! Bearing cage is much taller than the race. Race should be pressed just pass the retainer ring ridge.

Like he said of course it's not supposed to bottom out. I really meant if it does bottom out you can turn it over and tap back like explained in the video. When your tapping it down into place, if you can see the groove that the ring pops into you know you're ready to stop tapping down.

That’s funny AF. 🙏 We all got one upside down.

At the beginning of the video you wiggle your rotor in and out. That won't help you much when you are you shooting for a bad bearing. Play on the vertical axis is what you are looking for.
