They ran the top back then at Bristol back then too like they do now yeah there was a time when it was concrete the ran only the bottom but Bristol was a track that you usually ran up top or the middle till the concrete came along to replace the asphalt

Great download! I've seen bits and pieces of this race. But never the whole race. Thanks for downloading all the full races that you have shared. Love watching them!

sadly the whole nascar changed since then... i don't even watch nascar that recently... i pretty much more enjoy re-watching these races than switching on the tv to watch a brand new race... oh, and also the cars... at that time you still had to do some driving, nowadays i sometimes have the feeling the car is driving, and the driver just has a tea party in it...

There were plenty of other talented drivers pining for THE #2 nascar ride. Having said that i was probably a bit harsh on judgement, Irvan was still learning tracks here, i forgot he actually won in that 4 car. And THAT was IMPRESSIVE.

Best years of NASCAR. Every week the first 10 rows could win it, especially at Bristol or Richmond. And then thers the fact that i was a huge Trickle fan and once had a Kulwicki short track car in my dads garage lol...THANKS FOR THE POST

do you know just how hard a cocrete wall is? and he hit a 90 degree corner of the wall, at the absolute worst angle you can hit a wall (about 45 degrees), ive seen it happen at our local quarter mile oval, where the speeds are much lower than bristol.

  • @leejonesbabyy

that cement wall was moveable to be able to let the haulers out of the infield and he must have hit it right where it comes together. It happened a few years back in a busch race.

and to add to the irony, in 1990 they had a lot less horsepower, (and dont try the restrictor plate answer, they only use those a Talladega an Daytona), and heavier cars, and different suspension systems, and the top pole speed this year was about 140 mph, and one more thing, I never said absolutly anything about the end of the straight, Micheals crash was exiting the corner, not entering, either wya it was a terrible wreck, but he only hit at 110-120 mph.

do you play video games too much? 150 mph is about how much they do at Richmond before the braking point, maybe sprint cars hit 150 mph at bristol back when they put dirt on the track in 2000, but watch a video of qualifying at Bristol.

The spring 1990 Darlington wreck was really his first major screw up. Irvan definitely had his issues but it wasn't a prolonged run of stupidity. After Talladega in '91 ("The Speech) he really evolved as a driver. He simply had a bad year, year and a half that created a bit of a false narrative.

The 4 car and the 2 cars had plenty of accidents regardless of driver, true. There was that attitude of being uo front for sponsors (or lack thereof” that also played a role

Ernie didn't suck WTF - Yes he had his on track issues like many of these guys back then but he was a highly underrated driver and if not for his Michigan accidents he would've been a Cup Champion when he drove that 28

Ernie was a guy who had so much talent to go along with a set of balls big enuff to Cary in a wheel barrel. He would take the car to its absolute limit an sumtmes over the edge.an going to the edge is what makes a great driver .you rarely find a guy who can take it past the limits an ernie was one of them Earnhardt was another an they both got a bad rap for causing crashes

@@brianbooher7318 my first bristol race was in 81..when they still had three runs of guardrail in the turns..I went to probably 10 Winston cup races at Bristol in the 80s since we only lived two hours away from the track..I used to love watching tim richmond and earnhardt drive bristol ,they’d keep that right rear smoking like crazy lol...a damn shame they destroyed that track
