    I can see why other drivers hated Ernie Irvan back then. Benny Parsons says about three laps prior to the big wreck, "no Ernie don't try to squeeze in there". Well, he at least waited a few more laps Benny. Miss these days of racing though with Bob, Ned, and Benny in the booth.

    Ernie was such a moron driving. Still pissed him for screwing Davey out of a shot at the title in 1992. Dummy.

  • @Holden308

    @Holden308

    And Davey Allison was 100% correct in his comments about the way some of them were driving. They weren't respecting the speed they were going and were trying to push their way back inline even when there wasn't a gap to go into. Unfortunately I think that's what happened. Irvan was stuck in the middle between Kyle Petty and Sterling Marlin and was trying to get up inline behind Petty but completely misjudged it and instead of going behind he clipped the back of him and triggered chaos.

  • @williamshultz4620

    @williamshultz4620

    When I look at the replays, I really feel Ernie was squeezed in the middle and couldn't go anywhere. Some will say just back off, and maybe you'd be out of that bad spot, but then again, if you were to do that too often, you turn into Darrell Waltrip the last 5-6 years of his career....off the back and out of the draft.

    Thanks for up'ing this. I was there - Sunday AND Monday. Nearly got washed away when the wind and rains moved in quickly on Sunday. Rained so hard I think the track moved about 6 feet. Returned on Monday, sat on backstretch & The Big One happened near us. Many ran to the fence to see the safety crews carefully remove Kyle Petty with what turned out to be a broken leg.

    I remember my dad picking me up from school on the Monday this aired and as soon as we got home, the wreck had just happened a few minutes before. I remember very vividly seeing Mark Martin's car raise up like it was on strings and then settle back down without flipping on my parents old Curtis Mathes TV. One thing missing from the clip though that was a great quote was the Felix Sabates interview in which Jerry Punch asked him what Kyle Petty told him when he talked to him in the care center and Felix said "I can't repeat it on television."

    Yeah, woulda been only his 2nd win in a plate race, 5th win overall at Talladega... He never really had another decent run in a plate race after this race but at least he won once, Rusty never won a points race at either Daytona or Talladega, period... Since 1980, only Rusty Wallace, Alan Kulwicki, Martin Truex Jr & Kyle Larson have won championships but never won a points paying race at either Daytona & or Talladega...

    a video of a crash represents a much smaller time commitment than a nearly 3 hour long race broadcast. i would suggest most famous/infamous racing sports highlights uploads garner more views than the uploads of the full events from which they are derived. how many youtube viewers have viewed carlton fisk's homer from game 6 of the 75 world series vs how many have viewed the whole of game 6, or the whole of the 75 fall classic?
