I miss the early 2000's....so much more competitive than it is now. And NO CHASE!

The points back then were tight without a chase format. Sure 1st was locked up, but still so much at stake. I was too young to really recall any pre chase stuff, but prefer that to what we have now. Especially this latest bullshit they have mustard up. Its about the racing anyway, not the points.

MrSnowrocks Agree completely about it being about the racing. Although I hate this new shit system. A points system where Ryan fucking Newman could've won the championship this year is messed up. But I have to say, the racing today is damn good. It's presented horribly (hopefully NBC can help with that) but it's great racing. I still prefer the old racing to today's, but for anyone to say today's is bad they're not really watching. We have a lot of great finishes with these new cars and just solid overall races. If the presentation was better more would realize it.

Kyle Frey I'm sorry, I just can't watch with all the debris cautions. The cars today fall apart more than the cars did 15 years ago, and they didn't have tethers on hoods or trunk lids back then.

Oh I get it believe me. I'm not saying it's perfect racing. NASCAR still needs to get rid of many things. The "debris" cautions are ridiculous. The green white checkered shit is annoying. And can they please stop with the yellow line rule. It's stupid with the advancements in safety.

Kyle Frey In my opinion the competition sucks today. There's really only about 8-10 drivers who are any good, and have a shot at the win. Back then, it seemed there were 15-20 who could win on any given week. Also, and this just my opinion, there were so many more likeable drivers back then, probably 15 or so that I liked, Tony Stewart being my favorite back then. Now adays, I can't stand a lot of these arrogant, young assholes. Back then, it was about respect. Guys like Gordon, Jarrett, Rusty, Rudd, Stewart, Labonte (Terry, and Bobby) Mark Martin, Jeff Burton, Earnhardt Jr, Bill Elliot. etc, were fun to watch. I also liked rooting for underdogs like Johnny Benson, Dave Blaney, Ken Schraeder, Elliot Sadler etc., even though I know they sucked lol. Jeff Gordon, and Robby Gordon were the only guys I really disliked. Now, Jeff Gordon is one of the very few guys I root for.

This was the first race I went to. I'll never forget the smell of octane in the air, when I got to my seat, and how fucking LOUD those engines were lol. I loved going to races back in the day, when NASCAR Was worth watching. Out of the 6 tracks I went to, New Hampshire was my favorite. Also grabbed some Tony Stewart stuff really cheap since they were blowing it all out in his trailer.

Not much of a controversy. Clearly a racing incident - but Robby Gordon wasn't exactly upset about how things turned out.

The intended 43rd car was the #27 Pontiac fielded by Eel River Racing, but they closed up for good after the Kansas 400. Driver Rick Mast & sponsor Duke's Mayo went to Donlavey Racing a few weeks later.

I was there and the weather was spectacular...In november....and what an exciting race we got

I was at this race sitting up in the middle of turn 1 and 2 about halfway up. Only the second race I had ever been too. Our only thought before the race was, "Does NASCAR even know it snows in NH this time of year? It very well could be the first snow delay."

That team also folded after missing the race at Kansas, but I would guess they were 44th or 45th in points after too many DNQs earlier in the year, which was why McDonald's cut their season short.

Nobody, especially the drivers, didn't complained about this race being postponed to November of 2001. Fitting that Robby and the #31 team finally had won a winston cup series race. Also Fitting that Richard Childress, Robby's team owner, ended the season in victory lane. Especially after starting off the season in the most tragic ways by losing one of his drivers, Dale Earnhardt.

  • @WillHendersonTX

how Robby won the race was pretty dirty, but it was a legal bump and run, but it went wrong cause Jeff was trying to pass Mike Wallace in the 12 car but instead, Jeff spun out Wallace as Robby punted him into the 12. Jeff tried to get his payback, but failed and got black-flagged for it. meanwhile, 11 years later, Jeff does the same to Clint Bowyer, but instead of minor Damage to Bowyer's Car, he totaled Bowyer's 15 car and let's just say Jeff got him comeuppance from the pti crew of the 15 car that race, and Clint didn't get to Jeff in the garage/infield in time to give Jeff a asskicking. but Jeff Gordon's punishment for both this race's retaliation wreck and the 2012 Phoenix wreck were tame compare to Kyle Busch's 2010 Texas Truck race wrecking of Ron Hornaday (he was parked for the rest of that truck race and suspended for the remainder of the race weekend and was forced to miss his scheduled Xfinity Series (then Nationwide Series) start and his start for the cup race that weekend). or Matt Kenseth getting his payback on Joey Logano for wrecking out of the win at Kansas and knocking him out of the 2015 Cup Series playoff by wrecking him our of the race at Martinsville while Logano was in the lead (Jeff Gordon would get his final career cup win and a spot in the championship 4 that year, while Kenseth got suspended and was forced to missed Texas and Phoenix , and Logano would not make it to the Championship 4 cause of that wreck)

in 2001, you can race back to the line after a caution. NASCAR retired that rule after Dale Jarrett almost got killed after he wrecked in the middle of the field to bring out the caution during the 2003 fall race at the very same track that this race happened on.
