R.I.P. Don Shula your name will always be the dolphins legacy. A season record that will never be broken 1972 undefeated season 17-0 . plus 347 games won beating George Halas record. Only the dolphins were able to acomplish that .

I miss these days - Sunday was one of the few times I was able to spend time with my father who worked long hours. Watching football was one of the few interests we could share back then. The sound of a game still takes me back to those days...

Unlike NFL Film footage, the broadcast tv footage really shows Marino's arm strength. No question whether he could dominate in today's game.

fjr70 Facts that 80 yard bomb touchdown pass to Mark Duper illustrated your point perfectly & was simply a thing of beauty.

@@raypratt3611 He'd strike it rich and these "pussy rules" you're referring to make the game very difficult to watch. A sad demise to a great sport.

The pass to Duper for the long TD was perfect. In a game in 1984 vs the Bills at the Orange Bowl Marino throws a TD to Dan Johnson. Not a long pass just thrown on a rope. Looked like someone may have touched the ball and yet the pass never lost anything it had on it. Marino had a cannon for an arm.

finman 1980 1984 was an amazing season for Marino...not only because he dominated but it simply had never been done before. 48 TD's, 5084 yards?? Unthinkable at the time... especially for a second year QB. The NFL records that were broken that year was unprecedented.

The missing part of the 1984 offense was Overstreet and Franklin. Overstreet was coming on in 1983 and was set to be the starting RB. Andra Franklin was the starting FB. If Overstreet doesn't die that off-season in a car accident and if Franklin doesn't tear a knee in week 2 of 1984, Miami would've had a running game to take some pressure off the passing game. That also would've helped in keeping the defense off field more with a little bit of ball control. Miami's D started to head downhill later in 1984 and any sort of a running game would've helped not only the offense but the Miami defense as well.

Woody Bennett averaged more YPG than Franklin who had fumbling problems. Do you remember Miami traded for San Diego's RB Chuck Muncie during the 1984 season? But Chuck was all wacked out on cocaine so the trade fell through. Chuck was one of the dominant RB's of that era, but sadly never played another NFL game after this failed trade fiasco.

I wonder if the death of David Overstreet affected Uwe more than other teammates. After all Overstreet and Von Schamann also attended the University of Oklahoma together. I don't know how close they were though.

Given the rather pathetic state of the PHINS running game at this time a question. WHY THE HELL did not JOE CARTER get more carries than WOODEI BENNET??? Asinine. He AVERAGED 5 yards a pop and had break away speed. WTF???

WOW,this 1984 fins team really wasn't that good,if not for DAN MARINO and his line and recievers this looks more like a wild card team at best!!and funny thing is this would remain the theme for his 13 yrs with SHULA, I guess Shula figured he could get it all lacking a running gm and the D just never came around, but imo if shula either fired olividotti or I hate to say it,stepped down maybe 5 yrs earlier MARINO woulda had a much better shot at a ring cuz I know us fin fans hate it but shula overstayed his welcome,he completely forgot how to run a D and even worse wouldnt help Marino by getting a competant DC in the early 90's,cuz Miami had some players on that D,BOWENS,GARDENER,COX,OFFERDAHL,VINCENT and OLIVER were all pretty damn good they didnt have a true pass rusher, but COX came up with 14.5 one season,so obviously a better coordinator could have done something with this D,espesially BOWENS and GARDENER ABSOLUTELY BEASTS at stoppin the run and BOWENS would of and should have been a perrenial pro bowler but really got overlooked a lot,but is one of the BEST INTERIOR guys the fins EVER had!!its a shame!!
