This marketing video is amazing! It is almost brings a tear to my eyes. The kinds of ads are why I went with Chevy's from the start. They actually show the parts on the truck and and why they are on there. And even show under the hood and say how easy servicing is (not even possible in some trucks today!). No ads today comes close to this one. All manufacturers want to show today is the fancy electronic gizmos, nothing that somebody who actually needs a truck should really care about. Contrary to what the manufacturers think, not everybody needs an overpriced off-road beast truck. This video is what a truck is supposed to be! They can make more base trucks today, but they make more money off the higher-end versions.

My grandpa bought a new one in 87. The last year of the square body and first year for throttle body fuel injection. Had a fuel injected 350 that made 200hp 😂. It was a total slug but it drove and rode good! It was brown and cream colored with long bed . Him and I had lots of fun in it. Wish I could go back

The thing I love about these trucks is their simplicity. Today's vehicles have too many computerized components. Wifi this, touch screen that. Just give me a strong reliable motor and I'm a happy camper.

I have a 1984 Silverado i'm restoring. After I had the engine rebuilt,I drove it to a transmission shop to have the Transmission rebuilt. This is the kind of shop that removes the transmission, and disassembles it in front of you. It took them 35 mins to remove, and disassemble the transmission, and the shop owner said today's cars would have been towed in,with the kind of damage my transmission had.$450 and 1 day later I drove my truck home, with a 2yr warranty. The shop owner said he cannot offer a 2yr warranty, with today's transmissions they are just to delicate.By the way my trans still had the original factory internal parts, and my engine still had the original factory metal head gaskets. Its amazing my engine and transmission survived 32yrs before they got there first rebuild.

I've verified that when these old trucks were built 16-18 gauge sheet metal was used, while nowadays 20-22 is the norm even for trucks. Ever wonder why you see people close their doors and the metal flutters? Fords are brutal for this, the 2007 and newer GM trucks have fluttering hoods at highway speeds. They call it dent resistant, I call it BS. Also the OEM's now consider glass as part of measuring the structural integrity for a vehicle, including trucks. Are newer vehicles safer all around? yes. Are older vehicles safer in fender benders? yes. Are newer trucks more powerful? obviously. More capable off road? Not a chance. After plowing snow and driving in the bush with a 2015 3/4 ton chevy. My 85 1 ton 4WD is twice the truck plowing snow and venturing offroad by a long shot. Not as comfortable though. But its a truck, not a car. I prefer the KISS principal brought to us by the US Navy.

These were some of the very best Chevy trucks built! Their only weakness was the body panels rusting to soon! But I’m right now looking at one about the same year, that’s Military Surplus. The truck is a 3/4 ton 4x4, with I believe is a 6.2-6.5? Diesel, non turbo. There’s absolutely no rust of any type, only 67,000 miles and runs very good, or as well as can be expected. The previous owner added new Dual Exhaust Custom made from 2.75” tubing, with two nice fairly quiet mufflers. The gearing is 4:10 by the count of revolutions of driveshaft to wheels, with locking differentials, the front added by last owner. He also stripped the OD Green paint color off, but not to bare metal, had Bed Liner added to the bed along with about 8” up from the bottom, along with underneath. If I can get it for the right price I plan on buying it. I have access to a lightly used Banks Sidewinder Turbo Kit to add on. The only issues will be price and Wife, she is not to keen on having a Reg Cab, as we need any truck we have to tow our Travel Trailer whenever we want. Price is also an issue due to the fact we must buy a second vehicle that has 4 doors and be fairly nice. In a perfect world for me, I would love to do a DuraMax swap, tuned down to match up with the 4R80 trans that’s in the truck now, or at least a nice LS/LT Crate Engine. Then get a nice Lance Slide In Truck Camper, with the rear cab window removed and sealed to the Camper, so the dogs could be more comfortable! Oh and add a good A/C system!

Dime Fever that body style they made the regular cab pickups with single rear wheels from 1973 through 1987, but all the crew cab pickups, Suburbans, & K-5 Blazers, they made from 1973 through 1991. Also if I'm not mistaking I think they still continued making regular cab pickups with dual rear wheels & regular cab 1 ton chassis cabs with both single & dual rear wheels up through 1989.

It’s almost like the “egg shape” gets better gas mileage more than a box shape. Aerodynamics are something to think about while making a daily/grocery getter. But if your looking for a box the new trucks are still boxes and also the Dodge Challenger is a box also.

Have the exact same truck and colors as the one in the intro. Bought it for $900 cash hoping it would last for a summer while doing major building renovations - hauling plywood/sheetrock, dump runs etc. That was some years ago and this thing keeps going and going. Random people give me compliments on the truck at Home Depot, lol. Going to keep it because I love it for the hard-working dinosaur it has become. It will haul 2,200 lbs in the bed before the steering gets a little dicey (certified ticket from landfill). Insurance is surprisingly expensive due to lack of safety features I imagine.

I do miss the way these trucks look, they remind me of my highschool and early adult years. These trucks had style, character and class compared today’s newer vehicles. I especially liked the round eyes version of the 70s; But GM, Ford and Dodge put out absolute shit powertrains and fuel delivery systems during the 70s & 80s. Me and my buddy’s growing up we’re pissed and didn’t think much of the cars we got during our time. We missed out on the muscle car era of the mid 60s to early 70s, the glory days for GM. Big engines 4 bbl carbs and big horsepower, didnt have all the fuel, emission and evap parts they did in the 70s. The big 3 took forever to offer fuel injection and just didnt want to give up the carb. It wasn’t until the 90s that I saw GM come out with a stock small block V8 put out 300hp. GM had developed fuel injection in the fifties, I can remember a man on my street owned a 1967 stingray corvette with a big block V8 and fuel injection; there is no reason why it took until the last year of the squares to offer the tbi’s. And they definitely didn’t give a shit about you after you drove off the lot and they did not offer warranties like they do today. I did buy a k10 Scottsdale in 1987 brand new off the lot when I turned 20. It had a 350 small block and 4speed w/OD, it had more HP, was better towing and was much better fuel mileage, it was a dream not having to mess with a carburetor. I had to buy a ‘90 K1500 Scottsdale because my ‘87 was rusting and staring to rot away after only 4 years (the Achilles heel of the squares) These trucks were robbed of their true HP and overall performance for most of their production run because of the arrogance, and greed of GM. Ford and Dodge were no different and offered the same shit, in those days, they didn’t want to spend the money on R&D until competition from imports forced them too...they didn’t give a shit about the customer, you only had 3 companies to buy a truck from.
