On "My Car Story" we're in West Suburbs of Chicago on 10-25-15.
We're looking at a 1982 Excalibur Phaeton in white paint.
The car's Owner is Mike Manderino. Mike’s had this car since 1984. Mike shares as a teen he remembers seeing a Corvette and an Excalibur pull up alongside him at a stop light, and thought one day he’d like to own those cars.
His dream eventually came true.
ENJOY!

In 1982 my best friend bought an Excalibur Phaeton (white) exactly like this one -- it was the cat's meow in Houston in those days -- truly a beautiful car, one of the prettiest car designs ever. I still remember him going to Milwaukee to pick it up brand new from the Excalibur factory. It was quite the chick magnet.

Thank you, Lou! Your video production of this truly magnificent '82 'Excalibur Phaeton' is far and beyond a mere 'WOW!'; it elicits an exuberant, and heartfelt, *WOWZERS!* Perhaps even a *'Kazowie'* or two! As-well-as a bug-eyed expression of shock & awe: 👀 I would happily trade the left area of a certain part of my anatomy for this splendid , spectacular, striking, glorious, superb, majestic, breathtaking, sumptuous, and, if I may be so bold, truly Awe-Inspiring automobile! If memory serves me, the Excalibur was inspired by the 1928 Mercedes-Benz 'SSK', via the wunderkind, Brooks Stevens. Not many folks remember that Brooks was an overachieving industrial designer of home furnishings, appliances, automobiles and motorcycles - as-well-as a graphic designer and stylist! (Other than that, he did nothing! lol) He even designed an all-glass observation rail car called 'The Skytop Lounge'; featuring a sleek design with 90% window cover at the rear of the train. Brooks also designed the iconic Oscar Mayer 'Wienermobile'! Anyway, The Excalibur Phaeton's 5,800-LBS is what the 1950's Detroit automakers use to call, "Road Hugging Weight" lol. That 1982 $65-K cost of this automobile is now approximately, $172,700.00 in 2020 U.S. dollars! There is one thing I'd like to know... who won that drag race between the Chevrolet Corvette and the Excalibur Phaeton?

Hi Jeff di Giusto , Happy to read you're enjoying the videos with me :-) I can not confirm which car won the race, but @ 5800 pounds I'm going to guess the Vette bested this car. However at the end of the race the Vette was flattened as the Excalibur rolled over it :-) Lou

Yeah I used to think they were kit-cars. I'm delighted to be corrected! While the actual Excaliber is no doubt more desirable - the kit cars were kinda cool. But hey - an original is best! BUt the engine kinda robs it of its history a bit. Its a beautiful work of art!
